Fanservice originally had a broader meaning of use than just sexual pandering.

Been years since Ive seen anyone talk about their OTP (one true pairing)

Ah yes, I remember using the word "Japanimation".

i don't recall anyone calling it this back in the 90s/2000, before the term anime started being used around the early 2000s, i just remember people saying "Japanese cartoons" which is what i called anime since Pokemon

"Gar", a male character who is so manly and badass that even straight guys might go "Stupid Sexy Flanders". I don't see it used much anymore, and when I do, people ask what the fuck it means.

"Gar" still survives in the mecha fandom because of the amount of mecha anime that run on nekketsu and manlyness. Hell, one of the best known, GaoGaiGAR has that word in it's name.

Never heard of Japanimation I think (I get why it was used but yeah anime is simpler, quicker to say and most know what it means) and Gar.

Only saw Gar a few days ago in the 'do you prefer Moe or Gar thread'. First time ever heard of it. I got the gist of what it meant but still.

A short history lesson for everybody wondering about GAR: It's a 4chan term.
Story goes one anon on 4chan's /a/ board was watching Fate/stay night (the very first one) sometime in 2006 and he ended up really liking Archer. He was gay for him.
So anon goes to type out "I'm gay for Archer" after seeing Archer's own badass exit. However he's speedtyping and he ends up typing "I'm gar for Archer".
At first only Archer was considered GAR. But then in 2007 /m/ gets on with the fun.
/m/ redefined GAR to mean a particular way of badassery - hotblooded, macho, chadly. They refer only to mecha pilots who are badass. (Such as Ryouma Nagare from Getter Robo, Kamina from Gurren Lagann, Kouji Kabuto from Mazinger Z and so on).
/a/ does not agree and they start considering stoics to be GAR - people like L from Death Note and Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya.
It all culminated in the SaiGAR tournament (a diametral opposite to 2chan's SaiMoe) which ended up in an /a/ vs /m/ battle - Guts from Berserk vs Master Asia from G Gundam.
Guts wins and shortly afterward 4chan lost any interest in furthering the meme, causing it to die there.
Outside I assume it died in the early 2010s after the moe boom reduced interest in mecha and macho anime.

I remember ages ago annoying girls would scream bishie on sites like orkut. Didn't know the existence of hentai then.

Shojo ai is still used for lesbian bait stuff. Yuri means hentai so if there's no sex shown it's not yuri

Eroge is one that I can think of. Nowadays people just say dating sim/visual novel, if they use eroge it's probably in reference to older adult visual novels from the 90s & 2000s.
same as yuri above. Eroge are specifically sex oriented. And still used.

@HeruruMeruru

Most of your terms seem to be from an US-specific context, along with it's conventions, so for some of them it's only natural.
BTW, you can't really say that Shoujo Ai/Shounen Ai have fallen out of use when you said that the term used instead... is the english translation of the term.

Otaku

People "cringed" this term to death, just like the term "gamer".
So people just started referring to themselves as "weebs" ironically... until everyone did that, and then the term became the new staple.

Hoppy said:
Newhalf even though that is a legit hentai term as well, but it's fallen way out of favor and we just say futanari or futa for short now.

Is it a forgotten term? I still see it in places like Sankaku.
I thought people in general stopped using the term "shemale" and started using "newhalf" instead.
I was surprised when earlier this year I've met people who never heard the term.

Well, thank you for reminding me of that time and all the "3D women are not important" images I collected, which I can't post on FB nowadays because they would get me zucc'd.

No one uses it that way, lol.
People just say "Yuri-bait"

I dont know exactly but probably the words Seme, Uke and Seke/Suke for dynamics in bl/yaoi, and Tachi, Neko and Teko in gl/yuri. I think saying top-bottom or active-passive is more used in actuality (either in official or fan relationships).
I guess it was for the best, some people used this Japanese words to describe real gay/lesbian people in the streets or conventions and that was really weird (and rude).

Hearing the term bishie is one hell of a nostalgia hit.

I don't know if this counts, but random Japanese words people knew about like kawaii. Even the cringiest of the cringe don't use Japanglish anymore, inserting random Japanese into your sentences unironically is a thing of the past. I don't really like making fun of people for being cringy anymore, but Jesus Christ seeing a white ass kid with the most American accent add "hai" or add any of the suffixes like -kun to your name hurt my very soul. Walking into my school's anime club to see if I'd be interested only to be greeted with -san being added to my name was like a spiritual slap to my face, and I have never recovered.

I remember most of those words mentioned in op, expect glomp and gar. Never heard them used, but I guess they didn't catch on here just like weeaboo word neither.

Bara in a way. It's more like old word that for a reason still sometimes gets used by English fans while it's usually called just gay comics/ML these days.

Lime and lemon in certain circles, but those weren't limited to just animanga. Also somewhat related I don't quite much see people saying "crack ship". "Rare pair/ship" even more often.

AMV culture isn't so thriving these days and I don't remember when I have last time heard/seen someone use word "mep".
Yeah, bara is used less although I still see it used in context to diferentiate the "shojo-like ikemen" bl and "manly" bl, even if I think it's getting pointless to make such distinctions. Bl is somewhat becoming sort of an umbrella term in favor of several other minor labels.

Crack ship is only really still used as a tag in specific fanfiction related circles, like ao3 and wattpad. And now when you mention it, I haven't heard anyone say lemon for years, it's really a thing of the late 2000s and 2010s fanfic culture.

I think mep is still used fairly often in the editing community and studios, although some bigger editing groups on youtube have been closing down so you might not see it there as much.

I remember back in the MSN messenger days and old friends who were also into anime used to say they'll "glomp" me or "glomps you". The good old days.

I don't really remember any old terms that aren't around today. Friends I had even 6 or 7 years ago used to always call me an Otaku because I watched a lot of anime. But I never even thought that went away.
