| Why does every CG anime looks choppy AF? It's not like they have to do every frame from scratch since they're working with CG, i mean, i've seen stop motion movies with a bigger framerate. The example this time is Souten no Ken: Regenesis The opening is pretty smooth, so i don't know why the anime itself isn't, it's not like they can't. |
Part of the problem is that not only are CG artists trying to imitate the look of 2D animation, but they're trying to imitate an aesthetic that was born out of cost-cutting. If anime had always been lavishly funded, it might have consistently been animated on 1's or 2's (that is, 24 or 12 frames per second, or a cel every 1 or 2 film frames). But it's usually far less. To try and match that, CG artists have started rendering at lower frame rates -- 6 or even 4 frames per second. So why does it work for Dragon Ball FighterZ but not to anime? |

Because games operate on higher framerates in general for better control. Games also have a lot more time to be made than Anime. |

dehuman said: You sound like you know your stuff, so if you don't mind, I'm curious about the same thing OP is talking cause this is my first time watching a full CG anime by Polygon and am wondering whether the rest of their anime portofolio has the same problem as Souten no Ken.Their desire to look like regular anime no matter what sometimes does them no favors too, since it's at the root of very polarizing techniques like limited CG animation: the idea of dropping frames to mimic the timing of traditional 2D anime…which only tends to make 3D character motion more awkward, unless directly supervised by experienced traditional animators. Does it really take an experienced traditional animator to see that Regenesis' low framerate is noticeably bad and beyond distracting? If I, a person who couldn't animate for shit even if his life hanged on the line, can see that what they're doing the CG animation isn't good at all, why can't they? I just can't believe that they saw the episodes and though "yeah, this is good, I like it". |

The fact that Time and money is needed and most of the time, the budget is low and thus they have such a tight scedule that they don't have enough time. |
