Looks like KanColle anime is really sticking to its guns... I mean the game as a lot of characters are usually voiced with one seiyuu especially if they are in the same batch (Destroyer, etc.)

It also has shown how the game would work in the fictional anime world. Really like the series so far.

While the visuals were great (especially the abyssal fleet) I couldn't help but be extremely bored by the episode, it was so generically moe with it's characters and conversations I was rolling my eyes every other scene in response to how cliché it all was. Look... I get it ok? I GET THE MOE and I get everything else about the Kancolle craze, and this anime, but that didn't stop me from actually getting a bit disturbed watching this. Didn't anyone get a little... even a LITTLE creeped out by the fact that at the end of the day (although obviously fictitious fodder) this anime and Kancolle at large is about "moe-fied" representations of real WWII ships responsible for death and suffering on a global scale? I know this argument has been made before, and I know I sound like an overreacting douche, but the whole theme of this left a bad taste in my mouth. I hate overly sensitive people, and I'm usually the first guy to jump on someone for making "something" out of "nothing"... but a couple days ago I was watching youtube videos to see if any of them could get me hype for this anime, and I came across one which played real naval battle and casualty footage from WWII in between clips of "cutesy moe" scenes from this anime and it really weirded me out and made me think. Yes, it's just an anime. And Yes, you have to suspend disbelief at times to truly enjoy something. And Yes, all this may have been done with the most innocent of intentions... but out of respect for the men who died on BOTH sides, and distain for the great suffering that warships like those brought upon the world... this just doesn't feel right, you know? I can't be alone here. Some people will then say, "Well just don't watch it if you don't like it.", but I think they're missing my point. I hope this comment can at least spark thought on this subject, instead of having people continue to just blindly follow the Kancolle bandwagon into the next anthropomorphized "things into girls" craze.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is that there's never a good excuse for the story to be bad, both for me and for many others. Saying you should expect the story to be bad doesn't make it any less bad, and you shouldn't "judge a book by its cover" and assume a story will be bad for superficial reasons. I personally felt that this had story potential (and still does, though I now think it's less likely to live up to it) due to the WWII and combat aspects, even if it is a game adaption with moe designs. That doesn't make me or anyone "retarded", "ignorant", a "newfag", or a "hater" if I/they said it's bad after seeing this episode.

Okay, the thing is, depending on the anime, judging it based on the quality of the "story" in the traditional sense of a narrative is unfair in and of itself. This is because there are anime genres like Slice of Life, Comedy, Ecchi, etc... that, more often than not, do not contain traditional narratives and should be judged based on other aspects like quality of humor, fanservice and so on. Sure, everyone is entitled to their own opinions on what they find 'good' and 'bad' (be sure to state your criteria), but that way is not the ONLY way. People tend to forget that. Looking away from anime for a second, would one consider the Mr. Bean comedy series to be good? It sure doesn't have a complex plot of deep characterization, but it is funny as hell. Is that good, quality entertainment? I'd say yes. And so would millions of people worldwide. The acting and comedic timing is great and so is the writing. Yes, some might find it completely and utterly boring and insipid, but that's again just another opinion and not the fault of the work itself. I just want people to be aware of that.

TripleSRank said:
And no, calling the anime bad isn't an insult to anyone. You can think the show is bad and still enjoy it, or think the show is good and not enjoy it. For example's sake, if I love Pizza Hut pizza, and someone else who likes pizza tells me Pizza Hut pizza is terrible because it has way too many calories, that doesn't (and shouldn't) make me assume they're insulting me for continuing to like Pizza Hut pizza. I might even agree that Pizza Hut pizza is bad, but still continue to enjoy the taste.

Communication isn't only about one's message, but how it's interpreted by the receiving party as well. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naleynXS7yo) Even if it doesn't or shouldn't make others feel insulted, the reality of the situation is that people do take things personally due to their emotional attachment to the show. An example thought process is: "Person X says that Show A is bad. I enjoy Show A, therefore I have bad taste". I commend you on having the ability to remove yourself from the situation, and not everyone is like that. I tend to err on the side of caution when I make statements that can potentially incite the rage of others.

As others have commented, it's a bit like Strike Witches 2.0: Boat Edition. I don't think of that as a bad thing, I liked Strike Witches.

Was kinda average until it got to the battle part. I was hoping to see what's meant to be so special about the MC (Haven't played the game, don't really want to learn Japanese just to do so).

Will return next week for more "Yuri Navy!"

Taken from Wiki:
The Fubuki-class had performance that was a quantum leap over previous destroyer designs, so much so that they were designated Special Type destroyers (特型 Tokugata). The large size, powerful engines, high speed, large radius of action and unprecedented armament gave these destroyers the firepower similar to many light cruisers in other navies. Fubuki, built at the Maizuru Naval Arsenal was laid down on June 19, 1926, launched on November 15, 1927 and commissioned on August 10, 1928. Originally assigned hull designation "Destroyer No. 35", she was completed as Fubuki.

^that picture supposed to be funny, dipshit?

The series itself is a boring version of boat girls. You know, the one that aired in 2013 if memory serves me right. And when I say boring, I mean idiotic "tactics" in battles, an enemy that seemed ferocious and strong at first but turned into a herd of puppies eventually, a concept that's pretty much retarded as balls, and characters that so don't fit in the setting of the show. For the sake of it I'll just forget about the annoying speech patterns of some of the girls for now.

Bottom line is-- waiting for the second boat girls movie will serve me better than mentally cutting myself by continuing to watch this abomination. A shame though, if you think about it. This show would be so much more interesting if more effort and realism was put into it. But that's Japan for you.

You're cherry picking. The majority of negative comments gave reasons for why they thought the show was bad.

Edit: I have free time, so I figured I'd read through the thread in detail to make my point absolutely clear. Of the posts in this thread up until this point (including MateusGott's "lovely" post on the next page) that included a good amount of criticism or negativity:

>31 posts gave reasons for the criticism/negativity toward the show or aspect they didn't like.
>Of the 31 posts that gave reasons, only 2 actually bashed the show.
>19 posts gave no reasons or were vague about the reasons for the criticism/negativity.
>Of the 19 posts, only 5 were outright bashing, of which the post you quoted is one.

This means 38% of the criticism/negativity in this thread had no foundation, and 10% of the negativity was foundationless bashing/crap.

But wait! There's more!

The fans mostly started complaining about the negativity on page 8, which is when I started responding to them. What were the stats at that point, I wonder?

>15 posts gave reasons for the criticism/negativity toward the show or aspect they didn't like.
>Of the 15 posts that gave reasons, no posts actually bashed the show.
>7 posts gave no reasons or were vague about the reasons for the criticism/negativity.
>Of the 7 posts, only 1 was outright bashing.

This means that at the time the fans started whining, 31.8% (less than a third!) of the criticism/negativity in this thread had no foundation, and 4.5% of the negativity was foundationless bashing/crap.

So please, don't pretend the post you quoted is actually indicative of the overall quality of critical responses in this thread.

You're contradicting your own message here. If everyone is entitled to their opinion of what they find good and bad, then you have no right to call someone out for expressing their opinion that something is bad just because you don't agree with the way they judge anime. To do so is hypocritical. You're acting like the people who are expressing negativity are trying to force you to change your opinion or leave, when the opposite is what is actually happening here.

Saying "it's just your opinion" changes absolutely nothing. If those who express a negative opinion are factually wrong, then so are those who express a positive one. After all, it's not the show's fault you enjoyed it, by your logic.

Read the italicized portion again. If they're feeling insulted by association, that's their own fault. Being insecure about their own taste is their own fault. You expect everyone to stay mute for a few people that can't handle contradictory opinions?

"Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, and they always stink."

So in essence you either have to refrain from discussion or get used to the stench. It might sound harsh, but discussion by nature requires opinions, and people who need to be babied for a sense of security are going to be hard pressed to have any kind of dialogue with others.

We're not at a social gathering, where politeness is most important. We're at a forum, where actual discussion and dialogue is meant to take place.

If you're still talking about armpits, of course you can wash them frequently and wear deodorant, but that has little do with what I was driving at. My point still stands if you take out the colorful comparison. Opinions are needed for discussion, and this is a forum, where ideas are meant to be exchanged.

Well, I finally have an anime to watch that goes along to all the hentai I've seen about these personified boats. lol

Overall, I thought the first episode was interesting and I like it thus far.

Pretty good start to the series.
Hope to see more of the ships in later episodes

I don't know, I'm not a huge fan of anime where the protagonist is horribly underpowered and somehow gets through because he/she keeps getting saved by her friends/allies.

I wish she'd made something happen, anything, at least.

yesss more shimakaze.
"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

Wow, the action was actually pretty good, they really pumped up their budget for the first ep really high.
Definitely already A LOT better than Girls und Panzers, even from one episode.

And the music was also good. Ofc, no one is watching this for story.

I wasn't expecting adaptation this good, definitely gotta keep watching this.

This was pretty bad. Cliche: The anime. It's a poor man's Arpeggio and a poor copy of Strike Witches.
I know nothing of the game, and based on this one episode, I don't want to know.

So this is a Strike Witches clone with:
- Better animation
- Extremely shit CGI
- More girls
- More moe
- Even more cheesy dialogue

Depending on the story I'll see if I continue watching this or not; but most likely will drop this in the future.

Loved it. I'm not sure if I like the CGI though, it seems a bit... meh. The drawn animation is really good though.

I thought the enemy they were looking for was the main antagonist, but I was severely wrong. Hopefully we don't just get "baddie of the week" but an actual enemy they need to destroy.

4/5 episode. The CGI kills it for me.

Not sure if the "no pants" rule in Strike Witches, or the equipment here is more ridiculous, but as i enjoyed Strike Witches, i don't think it'll be a major issue.

A bit surprised that it's *this* similar to Strike Witches, even when some of the original team where involved here, too. Well, let's see if it can compete - so far it's not quite as good, but that can change, given that it was just the first episode..
