Is no one bothered with Guts voice? He sounds BORING, probably the worst voice of 2016 along with Dekus voice from BNHA. Pierrot would make it look nice, but they would butcher the story. But honestly at least it would at least look nice, than seeing this Pierrot did Yu Yu Hakusho in the 90s, one of the best anime-from-manga adaptions in my opinion. (Japanese language version only, obviously). |

Tokyo Ghoul was high budget?? A 5 year old could draw better frames in some RE: fight scenes..though I still really liked the 1st season..season 2 was just bad even as a standalone without comparing it to the manga The entire production of berserk is baffling though..the production cast had pretty much unknown people even the studio is pretty much unknown..which is weird as hell given how popular berserk is. |

Rickert even says so in volume 20ish too. Well yea he kinda does serve as a reminded to Guts, that not everything in the world is corrup and evil. Still I think the real reason he was put there in the first place, is that they have an excuse as to why Guts can get completely destroyed in a fight and get up the next day lol. Like without Puck, Guts would be out of commission for weeks/months after every major battle. Assuming he would survive with all the damage he takes. |

I cannot watch this for a few weeks yet, and by then there will be more, but I can still add to the conversation as a huge Berserk fan myself and adequately judge what's been said or not. I'm now wondering why Isidro had to be introduced here in episode 1, like, at all. If the whole point of this anime was just to do the Conviction arc, Isidro IS introduced properly in the manga inside this same arc. Why couldn't they just wait to add him at that same scene with the Kushan warriors/Salat? And, pretty sure I read that Shiereke is there as well. That blows my mind; I can't even fathom how or what they'll even do with her, or were they prematurely setting her up for a sequel or what? Man, I feel very reluctant to start this series; the only thing that can save it would be if they stayed as faithful as possible until the end now that the awkward beginning is over with. I don't have blind loyalty to brand names. My love of the manga is wholly unaffected by a lame adaptation and my open dislike for it. I don't have to watch it if it won't improve. |

Did they hire a female seiyuu for Puck? If so, why? Remembering the manga, it was made pretty clear that Puck is a male. I exspected some manlier voice (not too deep of course). The voice just doesn't fit. I'm still looking forward to Puck's antics. |

You have to admit the CG was horrible. It seemed like I was watching a laggging anime. The thing is I don't think it's that bad at all. I've seen many other CG anime such as: - Knights of Sidonia - Ajin - Bubuki Buranki The issue with CG is that I think animators haven't fully mastered it's implementation yet. We see CG in the backgrounds of most anime nowadays as well it being used for certain things (like the monsters in God Eater or the suits of armor in Garo) and now we have anime, like the ones mentioned above; that fully use CG as the principal method of animation. Sure it's different looking an can be rather jarring at times but different does not equal terrible. Sure, I will concede that the animation in this show certainly looks rather sloppy compared to the other CG shows I've seen but it's by no means appalling or unwatchable. The reason why it looks like it's lagging is because, from what I understand; CG animation is done at a lower framerate than traditional hand drawn stuff. |

(Sorry for the bad english) Berserk is a manga series running since 1989 and still to this day, 37 volumes so far in length. In the mid-90s, an anime adaptation was done that roughly encapsulated the first chronological arc, with skimping in both the beginning and ending, leaving it incomplete. In 2013, a trilogy of films was announced to, again, adapt the first arc that the original anime covered. This time it was far more cut down with even worse CG animation, and in my opinion, far worse writing as well. And now, while the same company as the films are not working on it, this can be looked at as a supposed 'sequel' to the film series, if only that it's trying to resume its place right after the arc flashback in the original manga. I think it has more in common with the film trilogy than the original anime, but it could be looked at as a sequel to either of them; the continuity is so loose it almost doesn't matter. Only avid fans of the manga really understand how it's supposed to fit. For a newcomer, it's very difficult. Hope that helps. |

Alright so looks like we're heading past the prequel story, took you long enough guys! I'm really liking the mix of old style 97' with the CG, but at times the CG can be a little bit overwhelming, understandable. I really hope they switch to using non-CG during fighting scenes to prevent a loss of frames and keep it in instances like the screencap above. They'd do so well regarding their budget and their target audience would keep coming back for more. Regardless, I'm hooked, unbiased, and ready for a dark gore-fest. |

True dat, it's confusing enough for the people who actually know how things are supposed to go. Meaning it's just that much worse for newcomers. Yea that was probably the idea and it failed completely. Like I would have been fine with a random new tree monster and random bandits, but noooo. They just had to take something from the canon and forcibly slap it into the wrong place(kinda like forcing a triangle piece through circle shaped hole) If anything it felt like slap in the face for a fan like me. Not to mention the sacrifce tree scene was WAY better in the manga anyway. I mean it had some actual build up and served a purpose. This has literally ruined my day. The animation is batshit. Look at those lines you see on the characters. It looks like those slideshows you see in Streetfighter V. Extreme use of CGI and the characters are poorly animated. Viewers don't know what the fuck is going on. If you're strictly a anime watcher and haven't read the manga you'll be confused as hell. The story is all over the place. The story is piss poor. Very little explanation given. If you've read the manga you want to commit suicide. They've completely fucked up the adaptation in less than 10minutes. Skipped out crucial aspects. They've combined arcs poorly which just confuse you further. They've added things/characters and removed things. They've changed the design of Puck. The action sucks. Gatts feels awkward. The action is poor. It looks budgeted. The action is really poor and it feels a bit censored. I'm distraught. One of my best mangas of all time has become a shitshow. Honestly, as a manga fan, people made this sound incredibly bad, when in reality I actually enjoyed it a lot. First, I think the hate circle jerk is in full motion, it's too late to stop it now and it's definitely the cool thing to hate on this and CG anime as a whole. Which I feel is very unfortunate and unfair to this episode. First the CG, it actually looked really good to me. It looked about on par if not better than things like Ajin or Knights of Sidonia. People are complaining about "frames" but I don't think they realize if this was 2D there would be about as many frames if not less way more often, people mostly just don't want focus on it with most anime. I think the hatched shading was a super awesome style to make the CG look much less stale, and there were plenty of incredibly fluid moments and times where if you pause it the show looks indistinguishable from 2D. However, I won't say the CG was perfect, the bandits looked awful, and the tree looked pretty bad, but not as bad as the bandits. However, these were also very minor side characters with little screen time so I can understand the lack of effort they'd probably put into them. It was distracting, but not damning of the show overall. Now the pacing, I understand how much it had skipped and the weird order they had things in, but I feel like this might suit it better in the long run similar to an FMA Brotherhood type deal, once the conviction arc is in full force I feel it'll be much more faithful. For what it was it was still really damn cool though and conveyed the tone well. Lastly the music and sound effects were stellar, the noise it made when he hit things with his sword was incredibly impactful and the music really got my blood pumping during those action scenes. The episode wasn't perfect by any means, but goddammit people it wasn't terrible or as horrid as most people seem to be making it out to be. I'm really excited for more. |

Pretty disappointing. Not only were the aesthetics really ugly but the direction was also very subpar. The transitions between each scene felt awkward and I felt completely lost on why all these things were happening. There were too many close ups and cuts during the fights which made these scenes feel frantic, and not in a good way. I won't be watching the rest and might pick the manga instead although I dislike starting something that might not end anytime soon. |

Like the only reason Guts didn't butcher the knights, is 'cus he got completely messed up during the Elf queen fight. @Zutrax: Exactly my point. Manga purists should just drop it and move on, because this is not the adaptation they were looking for. But once the circle jerk hate begins it's hard to stop it. I read the manga as well and dived in with low expectations. I will always have the manga there waiting to be reread, but seeing who was tasked to take care of BERSERK of all mangas is some barely known studio I kinda expected some butchering and cut content to occur. I'm still happy I get to see SOME of the arcs beyond Golden Age animated even if it's CGI and I'll enjoy the ride through to it's conclusion. |

Rei366 said: Nope, we're past the Golden Age arc, which is the second arc in the manga and the only one the 1997 anime and the 2012 movies adapted. The chronology is all over the place in Berserk; the first arc, the Black Swordsman, where Guts meets Puck for the first time, is immediatly followed by the extremely long flashback arc that is the Golden Age. Stark700 said: So in essence, the show assumes the viewers are pretty familiar with the franchise already. What? Wasn't this series supposed to tell the beginning of the manga who follow chronologically the flashback chapters who were anmated twice? I was almost certain the first book introduced the "fairy" like this episode did. It makes the whole work pretty hard to translate into animation, especially when you plan on cutting out entire arcs like the 2016 does (the Lost Children arc, which is supposed to be the first post Golden Age arc in the manga, won't be adapted). The first episode is actually weird combination of iconic scenes from the first arc and from the end of the Golden Age arc (after the Eclipse) as well as a couple of cameos and early inroductions thrown into the mix, but you definitely need to have either read the manga or watched the anime adaptations to know what's going on. |
