Honestly in my opinion, it doesn't matter what anime you watch as nobody can stop you. Also Ecchi anime most of the time aren't used to arouse people, but for pure comedy and humor.
The Fairy Tail manga and anime are a good example of this. ^^
My fav characters- Kanade Tachibana, Naka, and Shana!

Yes you should be ashamed for watching ecchi. If you look at even imaginary girls in that way you are a committing adultery at heart which is a violation of the 10 commandments... and I fully condone

I really don't think it's anything to be ashamed of. This goes for other genres too. I think that if you like it then just enjoy.

they say men think about something sexual every 10 seconds or so

i find that to be pretty damn accurate, yet ive never had the inclination to do anything dangerous or harmful, and im sure its the same with most men.... its just a stupid hypothetical since the bad apples draw all the attention

Maybe I really am a man trapped in a woman's body, because I swear I'm the same way.

To answer OP, I don't think it is shameful to watch ecchi. The girls are cute, the dialogue is super funny, and sometimes even a few heartfelt moments pop up. Also, why do people keep treating ecchi like it's any different from reality tv and all those romance shows on television? Plenty of sex and raunchiness there and no shamers in sight.

which is absolutely ridiculous, girls should be just as free to be perverts as guys

Is it considered wrong to watch Ecchi and enjoy it? And do the people who watch it need to be embarrassed? It's human nature after all, being attracted to naked bodies and sexual relationships.
I've been asking that, since I'm watching Kiss X Sis and I read that it's on the border of hentai...
And i enjoy watching Kiss X sis
it's certainly not something you talk about

Depends on the mindset of the viewer and what he/she wants to gain from the anime. Ecchi is found in most non-child friendly anime now. It can be vary to being explicit to mere implications. I don't know why he/she would be embarrassed if it entertains them.

Sit down and throw on some ecchi tonight when you're just chilling with your girl, see how she reacts.
I'd say it'll be a pretty even split between them being cool with it - or getting completely grossed out.

Some things are just better left as private hobbies and if you like to watch ecchi, you're a little bit promiscuous and most of the "real" world just isn't ready to embrace your special snowflakey-ness.

Not a big deal.

Choosing an anime two different people can watch is not just about avoiding ecchi, you know. First you have to find a show that is reasonably appealing to both genders.

That said, accepting the fact that I enjoy ecchi, porn and stuff is something I expect from my girlfriend (not that I have one). Dating children is not cool for adults like me.

Just kids are ashamed of it Everyone has some kind of sexuality so most of people actually enjoy ecchi where also a lot of them downrates the show because they "didn't enjoy" them and such but inside we all know they fucking loved them.

Just because it's not something you do publicly doesn't mean you should be ashamed of it.

You shouldn't be ashamed of jerking off, but don't do it in public.

A girl who dumps you for watching Ecchi is a hilarious shallow bitch. Don't date people who are grossed out over sexuality.

You'd be surprised of some of the dumb shit actual smart people can be into. Smart people seldom pursue intellectualism in EVERYTHING they do, especially not in siamese smoke signals.

If "needs to be ashamed of" is translated to "here I am, still can't find a decent girlfriend and clearly wasting my time", then yes. :)

Ecchi for me is just a pure waste of crap. Good stories do get wasted on them, like To Love Ru for example, where minus the ecchi fanservice episodes, I'm pretty sure it could have gotten much potential to widen up the storyline, or that new disastrous KyoAni "musaigen no phantom world", where if KyoAni just told the world that it has no confidence of its new anime so to bait/lure people to watch it, they need to show some skin.

All in all, ecchi is a statement where I'd rather watch hentai.
And IMO I'd be ashamed, because if you're a grown man, like you could have been chasing real girls instead, watching ecchi is like, reverting back to age 12 when you haven't seen a porn yet. Such a shame.

Though that's all brushing on the bad side, if you can be happy watching ecchi, then be proud of it. Either be proud that you're watching ecchi, or don't watch it at all.

A better way to phrase the question would be "is MAKING ecchi something that beeds to be ashamed of?"
And the answer is obviously no

People have put in tremendous effort to make sure you enjoy it, so why not go ahead and do that?
But if it lacks tits, then they did a terrible job and therfore you should be ashamed of watching something so poorly made

Oh and also, tities :3

Sorry guy, not every anime is going to pander to your tastes. Yes, liking plot-driven anime is a taste, a preference. Being plot-driven doesn't automatically make a show better.

Watching anime in general is something to be ashamed of. /shot

Anyway, in all seriousness, the real question here is why you care to begin with. To me, that seems to be the real problem, not watching ecchi. Are you embarrassed by it? Has someone said something to you about it? Are you afraid of buying into that internet stereotype of the typical anime fan? Confront that first, worry about ecchi letter.

My view on this topic; Of couse xD
I mean like, it's bad enough that your watching anime, let alone Ecchi, which probably has an actual story, unlike Hentai (There are some people who don't watch anime and watch hentai at the same time xD).

I think as long as people watch ecchi for the actual story, and maybe the comedy, its fine, but if you're just there for the ecchi, then just go watch hentai.

Yes, if you watch ecchi for ecchi then you're doing it wrong and there is something wrong with you.
If you're there for the "blot", then you're fine.

Now talking about my real opinion... just f**k the animators who dare put an ecchi in a way that ruins a whole series.

Why not pursue intellectualism in everything you do? Intellectualism is fun.

Disregarding an anime just because is ecchi isn't intellectual, it's prejudice. Besides, plenty of ecchi anime at least have good art. Drawing sexy people is an ancient art and anime continues the tradition.

Sorry guy, not every anime is going to pander to your tastes. Yes, liking plot-driven anime is a taste, a preference. Being plot-driven doesn't automatically make a show better.

CGDCT's plot about being "plotless" is its selling point. Nichijou, K-On, Chuunibyou, Tamako Market, yes they're KyoAni. And they're not plot-driven alright, more like character-driven. The characters' actions make the plot.

It's like this:
Character-driven = fine example is Harry Potter. The plot doesn't go anywhere until Harry/Ron/Hermione does something about it.
Plot-driven = one example is Twishit (Twilight). With or without the character's input/actions/decisions, the plot still moves by itself. And that's a bad case of storytelling.

Sorry but not every person is going to pander to your tastes especially if you're telling them your preference. (like you're replying to other people here)

And I just realized, I never said anything "plot-driven". I said more like "if ToLoveRu didn't resort to ecchi, that could have been better because their plot has potential". Plot-driven is an entirely different topic.

Ecchi is garbage and a complete waste of time. That being said, you don't have to feel ashamed for watching a mediocre genre, just look at yourself in the mirror and realize that you get turned on by moving drawings. It's ridiculous, right?

The way I see it, a lot of shows have little use for the plot. One just watches them for what they are now, and does not expect them to move anywhere. Some of them still have an overall plot to connect the different parts, but it isn't the point of the show.
Also, I responded mostly to the Musaigen no Phantom World part. It's notable for being very loosely based on the original novel (most of the show is what is normally described as "filler"), yet I think it turned out well. I would not describe it as "ecchi" - MAL database seems to agree.

I don't think anyone here is saying that they are proud of liking ecchi, and I would honestly question anyone who felt that way, but there's no reason to be ashamed too. Human sexuality is one of the most basic, fundamental instincts, and ecchi just appeals to that, just like how violent films and games appeal to the primal fascination with violence all humans have.

It's just a hobby at the end of the day, nothing shameful but nothing to be proud of either.
