| Episode was full of goodbyes and separations, from Kikuhiko leaving Miyokichi high and dry in her mind when she is in love with him and wants to spend as much time as possible with him, to Kikuhiko getting to have a proper conversation with Shin about many things before he left for the tour, like the rakugo each person aims to master, to a bit of Shin's backstory and how he was motivated to become the next Yakumo, etc. It was an episode full of drama but also full of class characterization as usual for all three characters involved. |
| I feel for Miyokichi. It's a time when there's not a lot for women to do besides stick next to men. She's also dealing with losing her family/prostituting herself to survive, Miyokichi runs towards men who continue to hurt her because that pain is familiar and comfortable. Man I really do hope her situation gets better. Her voice actor is also amazing, her voice sounds like a cool breeze during a warm summer night. |

| Poor Miyokichi. She only goes after the men who hurt her as the men who were nice to her in the past had tricked her into prostitution. I got pissed at Kikuhiko, but it had already been established that he prioritises rakugo over everything. Shin and Kikuhiko's friendship however remains as strong as ever. I'm surprised that Kikuhiko wasn't angry at Shin when he hugged Miyokichi. |

| Well... Considering what we do know will inevitably happen, Sukeroku talking about how his previous master died alone without money in a theatre while the successful Yakumo went on with his career is making me very worried. After all, we also do know that Sukeroku will never become a Yakumo, while it's Kiku who will come to take this name. I sure hope this isn't foreshadowing what will happen to Sukeroku, it would be too depressing... Although, when I think about it the flashback from episode 1 showed that Kiku was there when Sukoreku died (which was clearly part of why the daughter assumed he was the murderer). Meaning this parallel could also very well be messing with us. After all, let's not forget that the show's title refers to a "lovers' suicide", which obviously makes us think of that Rakugo Kiku played a few episodes ago which told the story of a woman who wanted to commit suicide with a man only to let him jump alone (in this case, the "woman" would be Kiku). It's hard to tell since I feel like we're still missing some important informations, but still, there has to be some foreshadowing somewhere. Even that backstory scene, whether it be telling us Sukeroku's fate or not, has to be very symbolic with him passing his fan (and his name) to Kiku, who then will come to become a Yakumo instead of a Sukeroku. Either way, I'm surely gonna be sad. |
