I'm not sure if I want to watch this. Kurisu was my favorite Steins;Gate character and having her dead is just heartbreaking ;-: Like, part of me absolutely wants to watch it because Steins;Gate was fantastic and I don't doubt this'll be either. While another part is just telling me to stay away.

It would be awesome? I'm not sure about that. If it has decent plot, I will try to watch it.

My guess is that the biggest thing Okabe failed to achieve here is to get rid of the paper Kurisu gave her dad. That certainly makes a huge difference because it leads to an eventual world war.

Does that mean she would have died if Okabe hadn't interfered? Not necessarily. What we need to keep in mind is that we never got to see what happens AFTER Okabe's first d-mail. If reality isn't altered, but rather it happens to be Okabe's perspective that goes from one timeline to the next one, then the world/timeline where he sent the first d-mail moves on - it remains the same.

So maybe Kurisu survived in spite of having been stabbed by her father (or perhaps something even more complicated happened, who knows), but then SERN kidnaped her and forced her to develop some kind of time travel technology that they needed. That means she still needs to be saved, doesn't she? Maybe she'll survive but end up dying again anyway somehow, who knows? On top of that, saving her doesn't necessarily prevent this world war from happening.

All in all, there's quite a bit of stuff they can work with, even if it doesn't sound as interesting as the original. It may turn out to be just a solid side story, which is also perfectly fine imo.

No, this is in the Beta world line, where okabe failed to save Kurisu.

You see the Okabe that derived a plan to save Kurisu and talked to his past self in ep 23? This is about him.

So Kurisu is dead in this timeline. Or so they thought...

Not exactly that hyped. Looks like they are milking the franchise. But you'll never know. Maybe this would be better that the first one.

Sorry if you guys already answered this above but......I'll say it anyways. Is kuristina gonna be a character in which you can interact with in this anime/visual novel or is she just gonna make brief cameos. She's my second favorite character and I only liked two characters in Steins;Gate, the other being Okabe. In all honesty I'd still watch it but it'd be a bummer if Kuristina isn't their. So could you guys confirm if she's a character you can interact with or she just makes brief cameos

Hey guys if you are curious about the new plot used for steins;gate zero, I can already tell you is gonna be awesome! I just finished reading the manga, (it's not complete, so I'm regretting reading it since they cut it off in a very very interesting part). You can find it with the name: steins;gate: epigraph trilogy. And I'm sorry to say that in this plot (the beta timeline) iswhere Okabe fails to saver Kurisu. You remember that starting the anime Okabe recieves a weird video message from himself, and in the end of the anime it's revealed the purpose of such message. Steins ;gate zero is the story of that okabe that failed, and time ago discovered a way to save kurisu and prevent WWIII. It's the story of that Okabe that sent the d-mail to himself of the past. Guys I can tell you that this new anime is gonna be awesome, althought you could dislike that kurisu is dead at tbe beggining, but if you give it a try I'm pretty sure you gonna love this new plot, it's not gonna e as slow as the original series, it's gonna be very exciting and tje plot twist are gonna be... omg... I'm so looking forward to this!!

i think I read the manga as well. I had no idea it was tied to steins;gate 0. I really liked the manga too. This'll be pretty cool and for Makise Kurisus place they ass a new character who was supposedly Makise Kyrisus rival in school in the U.S (that girl with long black hair in the trailer)

This summarizes my feelings, I know I'm still going to watch it, but it's gonna kill me inside. I hope it's atleast good, to, you know, compensate for the death of my favorite pairing/one of my favorite characters.

They may be milking the series, but fact of the matter is the original series left a lot of things up to speculation and questions got left unanswered. How was Okabe able to send a video back in time and what did he do in the future that would allow Kurisu to be saved. How did he become a rebel leader against SERN? What is the future even like (I know we saw a few clips with Suzuha running around, but that was in Beta not Alpha)? etc etc. There's plenty of things for the writers to address so I have hope for the series although I doubt it'll top the original.

Hearing the manga is good is exciting though! I'll have to read it ^^

The vn is coming out this November with a localization happening likely shortly after (devs said they are bringing over a vn 0 is the only one that makes sense, ands stiens;gate is super popular and the recent ps3 english version of the orginal vn) so we're going to know the plot and ending well before the anime airs. If the VN fails to live up to the orginal, the anime sure won't either obviously.

VN expectation: If they do multiple endings and if the "true ending" take me less than 35 hours to finish... I'll be disappointed.

It is weird because there's not much time between the day they cancelled the "sequel VN" and the release date for this one. Did they scrapped the old one and started S;G 0 from the beginning or they were already working on this one when they cancelled the "sequel VN"?

This way, I'll be pleasantly surprised if the show is good instead of disappointed if the show is bad.

Aha, I knew it was him. Even his silhouette looked pretty badass. But not sure I want to read about an alternate universe Okabe... the problem I have with all media that use parallel universes as a plot device.

Young Kurisu looks very cute.

Who's the girl in the middle, though? Could she be Suzuha's mom?
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

So Kurisu will be present through the agency of a digital replica. It could be interesting to see where this goes, especially if they develop some of the ethical issues related to Artificial Intelligence(s).

Kagari Shiina looks like a younger Kurisu. I'll refrain from making some random hypotheses about the girl's parents, although a part of me wishes for that outcome.

For now, it's just a "coincidence" ...

Hypothesis: We will see steins gate worldline 2025. Why? Because whenever Okabe sends a D-mail Reading steiner activates. And we know that he sent a D-mail in Beta worldline in 2025.

So yep this is a sequel. the question will be. Will Okabe die?

Here's hoping that they actually develop and flesh out the characters this time. Having started with the anime and then the VN, I'm very disappointed that they sidelined Rumiho and only delved into her character superficially. Rumiho is probably the best character in S;G - she has the most depth, is one of the most compelling and interesting characters and is above all, relatable. She's just so generic in the anime, though. When i first saw her in the anime, I paid her no mind. Her 'nyan-nyan' was even more annoying than 'tutturu' simply because she used it in every sentence she spoke. That made me dislike her as a character, as well. However, Faris' ending in the VN, and more importantly how they flesh out her character in Linear Bounded Phenogram is the best characterisation I've seen in ages. Naturally, of course, there are parts of her character that are rough around the edges and could be improved, but I really wasn't expecting it out of S;G, a series that had disappointed me with its generic characterisation.

Long story short, the VN is waaaaaayyyy better than the anime. Well, honestly, what did they expect fitting a 20-hour long VN into a 6 hour long anime? Naturally, details were going to be cut out. Ah well.

The fact still remains that Rumiho remains sidelined in the anime and in the VN. She's a side character, but she honestly deserved the role of Mayuri or Kurisu. Hell, even Daru, maybe. They have such a great character, but she's never used to her full potential. Instead, a generic, archetypical character like Mayuri gets the spotlight. In fact, it's because of Mayuri that I couldn't invest myself emotionally in the anime in the first place. I honestly couldn't care less that she died because there's nothing interesting, compelling or deep about her character. She's really quite bland. Massive miss-fire. Rumiho (or Faris) reflects Okabe's character, yet they never delve in-depth with this.

Ughhh, let's stop talking about the disappointing parts of the original series, otherwise I'd go on a tangent about it for another 200 or so lines. I'm hopeful that Rumiho gets some spotlight in Steins;Gate 0, because I really want to learn more about her character, as she is one of the only characters I'm attached to in the series (even though 'nyan-nyan' annoys the hell out of me), but this probably won't be the case. Some interesting character development for Okabe, though. I can hope that Mayuri's character gains some complexity and depth, but that's probably hoping for too much. I wonder if Daru will develop as a character - there certainly is room for it. After all, Amane Yuki is in this one.

Well, the VN will naturally be better than the anime, no doubt - this much is already obvious. This has some real potential for Okabe's character, though. I guess you could say I like him as a protagonist, but I think the depths of his character have already been explored in the anime adaptation. This series can ground his character more, I suppose, but I don't know how I can put it - what I don't like about Okabe is that he's a really simple character with really simple motivations? It's not exactly like that, but it's like he has superficial depth or something? I can't put my finger on it. There's just something a bit off about his character that prevents me from really connecting with him. However, I think with this new adaptation, I'll be able to truly like Okabe as a character. At least, that's my expectation for this series.

*Edit - Forgot to include my other expectation.

In addition to my expectation of Okabe being totally fleshed out and growing as a unique and compelling character, I'd really love it if we could see some 2020-2036 future stuff. What, with Okabe spearheading the resistance and developing a time machine. Maybe a throwback to episode 23 when he records his message for Okabe. All of this future stuff has been clouded in mystery and it's a real shame that they reveal hardly any of it except through Suzuha's minor explanations. Of course, I don't expect to see a helluva lot of it, considering this series is probably going to be going on for a long time, but I would like to see an episode or two on it. Getting a bit psyched here.
