| The type for 'Operation Victory Arrow' entry needs to be verified. Apparently episodes are pre-screened for one day in few selected cinemas prior to being released on DVD (at least that's the case for the second episode). A limited pre-screening is not really considered a proper theatrical release. Listed as an OVA on Kadokawa http://www.kadokawa-pictures.jp/official/s-witch-ova/ too. |

| Leknaat: I can see Shintaro Kago stuff being in one entry because as far as I can tell they only have one combined release, and weren't shown separately. But for the rest: Well, you may disregard my personal opinion, but I think that there is really no need to split the entries in question. At least not the latter one. That would cause no hassle for the users who currently have these entries on their lists and for the users who are yet to watch these films it would be much much easier to follow one entry rather than 17 separate ones. A list of episodes should be added to the More info section though. What if the films are re-released separately then? What if one anthology has some films and another a different set, and they are later combined (but not all of them) into a new release with a few exclusive films? And what if a film that has its own entry gets released in an anthology in the future? And what if a film belongs in an anthology AND in a compilation that includes works from other people? (unless you want to have single entries for compilations too? talk about complicated.) There are very few (if any) "complete works" anthologies that exist, it's just needlessly complicating things. And I don't want to have one rating for one animator who made films from the 60s to the 80s and gets a single entry just because they're old enough to have anthologies. I can see the appeal in just setting the "50 billion Okamoto films" entry as watched when I watch 50 billion Okamoto films, but at the same time I'd rather be able to track which of his films I watched instead of having to dig through it to find more details. I'd rather be able to rate them individually. And I'd rather be able to get specific information on different films, including how other people reacted to them, and potentially some context information on how a film was made... But more important is the inevitable messy re-categorization of entries when new collections are released. I really don't want to deal with that shit considering I'm the one going through adding and fixing data on a lot of those releases, and if this happens I'll be the one having to go and try to find a solution for those situations. It seems to me that you'd just end up trading the complications of validating a bunch of entries at once (which I'm not denying) for an even worse scenario later where the DB is fragmented between individual works and anthologies, lacks information in those individual works, potentially has overlap between entries, and causes confusion across the board. If you think there's a problem with having too many short entries in the DB, I don't see it affecting anyone who doesn't care about them (like hentai entries). Of course there are a lot of them, because the ones being added are old and made over several decades, the number is still nothing compared to TV series today, so there is no reason to treat them differently. I think that an exception should be made for the anthologies that are already in the DB, similar to how MAL doesn't split into seasons some of the older anime entries like 'Big O' and 'Cardcaptor Sakura'. So you want to just confuse everyone with different entries following different rules instead of fixing an old mistake? It doesn't really make it easier for users, what would make it easier to me is if people would get alerts (PMs) when one of their entries is deleted. It doesn't just happen for those things, I had to figure out which part of my list got deleted when the count went down by Googling the ID of the deleted entry (Gundam Build Fighters specials of all things...). Please no more exceptions. And while I'm at it, English titles bad, split cour "season 2"s bad. Also, any anthology that is not in the DB yet, but has a large number of short episodes could possibly be added as one entry. Or at least considered depending on the case at hand. I'm simply trying to point out the desired general direction these exceptional entries could be taken ultimately making it easier for the mods to manage the DB, and for the users to add these entries to their lists. What else is there to "manage" other than validating new entries? And for that, all the hard work of gathering data is done for you (at least as far as I'm concerned). Maybe you feel like there are way too many shorts being added and that it'll keep going, but there aren't too many more that have yet to be added at this point. I had to flood the queue with stuff from pre-war to the 2000s because none of it was there at all, but most of it is done now. If you start implementing this, you'll just end up with 5 anthologies and no one will know why. As far as I can tell personally the only animators with compilation DVD releases that I haven't gone through/checked for entries are Keiichi Tanaami (who has many DVD releases with overlapping content), Takashi Ito and Taku Furukawa. And I look for that stuff everywhere, so I highly doubt I'm unaware of many other releases... oh and I haven't finished with Okamoto, but it's close. First two movies were released a year earlier. According to the current database guidelines that were put up before the entires were added into DB, they are listed separately correctly and should stay that way. (Unless of course an exception is made for them too.) The 2013 omnibus release of Short Piece is comparable to the DVD release of the 'Yokoo's 3 Animation Films'. That contradicts your requests. So what about stuff like http://myanimelist.net/anime/7616/ which is 4 separate films released many years apart? I brought it up before, and I'm pretty sure the answer was along the lines of what you posted here (i.e. "oh noes, more entries"). Not that I don't get your viewpoint (since I called for Short Peace to be merged), but please don't put it off just because you don't like it. It's far more annoying having one or two entries sticking out and staying like that for no reason while you're trying to figure out a general rule. (by the way, that entry has wrong title and synonyms that correspond to the title of an anthology (heh) of Murata films) Speaking of which, you never replied about Short Peace before despite me bringing it up a few times, and now you only bring it up to... er to what exactly? To tell me I'm right that Yokoo's films should be split up? Sure... do it, then. I don't care as long as you stay consistent. Anyway, Short Peace is an omnibus. The Tadanori compilation is... a compilation. That means Short Peace films were purposefully associated and released together. That's not the case with compilations. Your idea would make more sense if it were about merging anthology films (like Short Peace) instead of compilation DVDs (which would be way out of place). Sure, the fact that some films were released earlier on their own makes this more of a grey area, but you do have Tokyo Loop on top of the individual entry for one work that was released before Tokyo Loop. You do have Eve no Jikan OVAs and movie. They're not exactly in the same situation, but it's not contradictory of me to call for Short Peace to be merged and Tadanori's compilation of unrelated standalone films that happened to have been released on DVD several decades later to be split up. I'd like to know what makes you think anthology entries are needed in the first place, it would be easier to first think about the concrete problem(s) than to try to guess what it might be from your proposed solution. |

| Jacquelin, And what if a film belongs in an anthology AND in a compilation that includes works from other people? (unless you want to have single entries for compilations too? talk about complicated.) Yeah, that are some of the challanges we would face if we proceed with such changes. But the amount of these titles that are already in the DB and how many of them are yet to be added needs to be evaluated first to see if the need for merging is justified. In my understanding merging them on case by case basis whenever it's beneficial for users and us would be an easier task. I'd rather be able to rate them individually. And I'd rather be able to get specific information on different films, including how other people reacted to them, and potentially some context information on how a film was made... Hey, you can do that with the movies from Short Piece omnibus. See... even if your requests are fulfilled, we would end up in pretty much the same situation we are currently in - with some entires being listed separately, and some merged. Sure, the fact that some films were released earlier on their own makes this more of a grey area, but you do have Tokyo Loop on top of the individual entry for one work that was released before Tokyo Loop. You do have Eve no Jikan OVAs and movie. That one http://myanimelist.net/anime/11585/Fig ? ehh... Sure, the Short Piece is debatabale, but we can't simply merge it without changing the guidelines, and changing them is not that simple as it may seem. It's far more annoying having one or two entries sticking out and staying like that for no reason while you're trying to figure out a general rule. ... I'd like to know what makes you think anthology entries are needed in the first place, ... Is it even possible to organize this "chaos" without some entries always sticking out? I see that you have valid arguments. The entries you have submitted separately doesn't cause that much trouble indeed (but they do affect search results saturating it). Sure you can rate them induvidually and all, but some of them doesn't even have a picture available, nor much details on the initial release, etc... The combined entry on the other hand may even tell much more to the user, like in example of http://www.amazon.com/Independent-Japanese-Animation-SOUGIYA-COLUMBOS/dp/B00E3DW076 where the user can actually consider purchasing the DVD and completing the whole entry instead of adding a couple of shorts possibly available on YouTube, Vimeo or official site. But that might be a burden for those who can't get the whole collection. It works better with manga one-shots/antalogies as they are often available for download. If you ask me though, then I would say that the general rule we would like to follow is to keep the exisiting merged entries as is, at least. Maybe you feel like there are way too many shorts being added and that it'll keep going, but there aren't too many more that have yet to be added at this point. Oh, that's relieving to hear. :) There is a 24 Volume DVD release containing about 480 short works that was recently mentioned though (sorry, I don't have a link to provide right now). I don't see us adding each work separately, do you? |

For example, http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=23319, aired in 10 theaters, then on TV and only after that did it get a BD release (or so I believe), yet it's regarded as an OVA, or does the official classification bypass the guidelines in this case? The type for 'Operation Victory Arrow' entry needs to be verified. | Paulo27, oh, it even aired on TV as well? Don't think we have any hard numbers written in the guidelines, though. Part 1 received an advance screening on September 27, 2014, with attendees receiving a theater edition Blu-ray release. An advance screening in 10 theaters for one day with the Blu-ray's being released simultaneously, pretty much. That's still considered limited. So... it's an official OVA, yes. It's not the case where we consider the importance of the first release. Jacquelin, they are not of the same type, so the Mochi Mochi no Ki (OVA) would be a correct naming here. Added, thank you. |

| Leknaat: Sure, the Short Piece is debatabale, but we can't simply merge it without changing the guidelines, and changing them is not that simple as it may seem. Like I said the Short Peace Opening entry bothers me because it sticks out like a sore thumb. I just don't understand how you can call for that to be left alone AND the three Yokoo 60s films to stay merged. I know you're not sure what to do about it, but FOR NOW why not just make it the same as the rest of the DB when I gave you all the data for it already? It's all on Anidb. Shintaro Kago is close enough to its own release IMO, but Yokoo's films don't make sense at all. I see that you have valid arguments. The entries you have submitted separately doesn't cause that much trouble indeed (but they do affect search results saturating it). Can you give an example? If anything I have more trouble finding the shorts I'm looking for when they have common names, because they are usually short and simple, and I have to go to page 2 or further to get the entry I'm looking for. Most titles are either like this, or have weird names, I find. I'd understand if they were conflicting with existing titles (as in had the same titles are other anime), but I don't think that's the case. Sure you can rate them induvidually and all, but some of them doesn't even have a picture available, nor much details on the initial release, etc... I add images when I watch things that are missing them, and when I add anything myself. Other than that there's nothing you can do when dealing with works that have no domestic release. I see that 'issue' mostly with very old works. On "details on the initial release" what details? If you mean release date, even newer independent works usually only have the year information because they aren't "released" one day, they just start getting screened at festivals and it's hard to track the exact date. Of course older works are also harder to trace. Personally I like having the reading, original title, release year and creator. In some cases that's the most information you can get on an English site. And I added an image to Nezumi no Yomeiri if that's what you wanted. When I added these entries (L'animation indépendante japonaise), some were already in the DB, such as 663114 because it won the Ofuji award, and I think also some Wada/Mizue works. So you'd be merging those with the other films just because they were put on DVD/BD, which doesn't really make sense to me. Like I said before, that falls apart if anything here is released on a different collection, unless you want many "release" entries with overlap. In which case, it is a nightmare to manage, as any change in information on a specific film on one of these entries has to be copied to the other. That goes with all new releases, but on top of that of course you have to go through the bother of adding all the stuff "missed" from previous decades. But once that's done, it's done. You just add new stuff as it comes out and it's not an issue. If you want to complicate it now with "anthology" entries you lose information and integrity of the DB. Just give me a bit more time to finish it, I'll do most of the work myself in the end regardless, as long as you let me. If you ask me though, then I would say that the general rule we would like to follow is to keep the exisiting merged entries as is, at least. There's only TWO of them. And the Yokoo DVD has THREE films on it. That's just ridiculous. Not to mention it's full of wrong information. You're only gaining by fixing that, honestly. Hell, I'll add the entries themselves if they won't be denied. Keep some consistency please. It's not like asking to split up omnibus releases. It's a compilation of completely unrelated films released decades after they were screened at festivals. Oh, that's relieving to hear. :) There is a 24 Volume DVD release containing about 480 short works that was recently mentioned though (sorry, I don't have a link to provide right now). I don't see us adding each work separately, do you? I haven't heard of this, not sure what you're referring to, can you give a title? I know a 12 volume DVD release full of shorts, but I've added most of them already. http://nishikataeiga.blogspot.ca/2014/12/japanese-art-animation-film-collection.html Anyway I was told that this the split up/deletion was going to be done, so I hope this is really just personal opinion and not telling me that it won't be done. If it will then I need to know when, and if not, obviously you need a better alternative than what you posted, and until then, I do expect it to be split up as per the rules. Besides, there are other things that should've been deleted a while ago and weren't. |

| http://myanimelist.net/anime/28885/Konna_Watashitachi_ga_Nariyuki_de_Heroine_ni_Natta_Kekka_www_%28TV%29:_Heroine_Kentei Does this qualify as an anime? I just took at look at it now and every episode is just 2 images. First of the house for 15 seconds and then of a laptop screen with the question of the day and the VAs just voice over that 2nd image for the rest of the 3 minutes. Legal youtube link here for you to see: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCywxWD-Jr9IgpK7Hb3X_KKw/videos?live_view=500&flow=list&sort=dd&view=0 IMO this seems like a radio drama [put on youtube] more than an anime. Though that line has got to be blurry due to podcasts. Those things are like internet radio dramas. I've seen a few of those from random things on NND and I believe some have come bundled with manga volumes. Well whatev that bridge will be crossed when something actually comes up. ________ Another "is it anime"? http://myanimelist.net/anime/18881/ http://myanimelist.net/anime/9591/ I think it might be "motion comics". I also sent you a PM about this one. __________ http://myanimelist.net/anime/27589/ Needs to be 26 eps @ 1 minute per ep rather than how the More Info section labels it. Syoboi for reference: http://cal.syoboi.jp/tid/2164/time?Filter=59#195068 Each episode was composed of 2 stories. With every story focusing on one prefecture. Right now the final air date we have listed is for the 26th episode. That means it covers 47 stories + 5 extras = 52 stories total. The 5 extras were regular episodes just focusing on 5 previous dogs. The 1st extra is part of episode 24; it aired along side story #47. So they're not like TV specials or anything, just regular eps. Ah damn, I messed up submitted the 2 TV specials to the DB. Could you change the type to Special. I selected TV initially. |

| The entry has been in the DB for a long time prior being apparently removed because it wasn't up to the standarts of the Picture Drama. I guess I was mistaken on that part. I see it being listed as Voiced Manga on the AniDB too. Well, I wasn't dealing with the removal request, but personally I don't see the Code Geass episodes being the same as Samurai Girls vomic. Appearing text aside they doesn't feature the usual small frames and floating effects, etc... They are closer to the small theater/picture drama format rather than vomic. |

| Zazie122, >"Narihero shorts", yes, they count as picture dramas. Thank you for consideration. Although, they may be later reviewed to confirm that they indeed do meet the minimum picture drama requirements, or not. Hanabira dramas were already reported last summer too. Please refer to http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=286105 They were allowed back then, at least. >Why does this qualify for the database? It's an unofficial doujin anime, I can't recall the specific reason, but yes, this one qualifies for the database. It's already been confirmed. >Titles that have English titles and Japanese sub-titles, or vice-versa, or a mixture We do not swap titles for the franchises. | http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=29003 If keeping up with the stylized title then it should be written "Lena leNA". The official site has it written clearer that the cover image. Though I think "Lena Lena" would be simpler as I don't believe there is a significance of the anime's upper/lowercasing to the anime itself based on the synopsis of it being adapted from a Western book which spells it normally. ____________________________ http://myanimelist.net/anime/29725/Pomapopapera I don't believe these are anime. According to Maya's official Vimeo page: http://vimeo.com/87585944 her Spanish students created this in Spain. So this would be a 'Spanish anime'? Same here http://myanimelist.net/anime/29723/Toronto:_Mix_Syrup but with Candian students in Canada http://vimeo.com/101384030 And this http://myanimelist.net/anime/29724/Fellbacher_Glompp with German students in Germany http://vimeo.com/88808649 This one too http://myanimelist.net/anime/29720/ with Serbians and Greek people in Serbia and Greece http://vimeo.com/29686010 She is listed under the Animators section in the credits along with everyone else, but it's like 20-30 "foreign" staff in foreign countries then her in that foreign country. It doesn't seem like 'anime' to me under the DB guidelines. As an analogy, did ya see that Adventure Time episode done by Masaaki Yuasa? Where Masaaki came to the US and worked with the US staff to have it animated in the US--but that doesn't qualify as an anime does it? This is what these ones with Maya Yonesho equate to me. She goes to some country and works with that country's staff and has it animated in that country. I've done a workshop with a China-based watercolour paint artist before and it was through my University, we hired the artist, as in we contacted him and paid him to come and teach us his style and techniques. I assume Maya works the same way based on the 'companies' listed in the description of the vid (ex. "Mostra Internacional de Cinama d'Animacio de Catalunya" for Spain) an art group or university in a foreign country hires her, I don't believe she volunteers. Though something like this one wouldn't qualify either http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=29726 since it was in Japan with Japanese 'staff' but it would be considered doujinshi since the students made it and they're not professional/award-winning animators (just like how the thousands of student animators and their senior thesis animations aren't in the DB) such as Maya herself. She lists these workshop creations on a different section of her website, away from her "works" area. http://homepage3.nifty.com/maya_y/Site/Daumenreise.html Having Maya's 100% self made work makes sense to me, but not these where novice foreigners made them by hiring her to teach the method. |

That means that other than fixing the spelling mistakes/small inconsistencies these requests will be ignored. The other edits are now done. Thank you. Fine, but they should at least be consistent. For example, why does the FMA Brotherhood movie Milos no Seinaru Hoshi have its Japanese title, even though every other FMA-related title is in English (including the other movie)? It's also very incorrect to have an anime's main title in English with the sub-title in Japanese, especially if they've been licensed with different titles. Mahoromatic Tadaima◇Okaeri is officially "Mahoromatic I'm Home!" in the English release, and it's also inconsistent considering the rest of the Mahoromatic entries have their English titles (the second season is "Motto Utsukushii Mono" in Japanese and just Mahoromatic 2 in English). The first Macross series has English titles, whereas Macross 7 and Macross Frontier have Japanese titles. Eureka Seven has Japanese sub-titles, despite the main title being in English. Same with Berserk. The Prince of Tennis entries are the same. They also suffer from the fact that the titles aren't official translations from the English release, but rather direct translations of the Japanese titles. I mean, Christ, the official English title is The Prince of Tennis, not Prince of Tennis. So they're completely and utterly unofficial titles, which I personally do not believe MAL should use. Sorry if it feels like I'm being rude, I'm really just trying to explain my views on these things. I just don't understand why there's so much inconsistency, even amongst the same franchise. I get having franchise titles in English (even if I strongly disagree), but there's no excuse for having a mixture of English and Japanese sub-titles and all that... Lastly, the Outlaw Star Pilot is missing the word "Pilot" in the end. I assume this was simply a mistake, though. Thanks a lot for the changes you did make, and sorry for arguing with you so much! |

I still won't be touching the other four franchaises. It is unfortunate that we are currently stuck with such inconsistencies, but the chances to see the language option for the titles finally getting implemented is much higher nowdays. I would rather wait for that day. The titles for corresponding manga entires and episode discussion topics will have to be changed too. It is better to do it in a more organized manner. You don't have to be sorry. Thank you for the request. You are good at spotting all kinds of mistakes. | http://myanimelist.net/anime/23137/Girls_und_Panzer_Picture_Drama The first picture drama was released at the Heartful Tank Carnival on April 28, 2013. This event was recorded and then released on DVD 5 months later (September 9th, 2013). On the DVD was 3 additional episodes. The new entry I submitted in the database is similar. http://myanimelist.net/anime/29853/ The first episode was shown at the event and the second episode was put on the DVD. I know the first release is supposed to be the most important release but it'd be a little weird to split the 2 entries into 4. I assume this would be handled like pre-screening episode 1's of regular anime and films so I chose the air date for the new special as the DVD's release. If that's okay with you, could you please put the first paragraph blurb into the More Info section of that entry as well. I would also suggest changing the picture drama's Japanese title to: ガールズ&パンツァーハートフル タンク ディスク so the main title would be Girls und Panzer Heartful Tank Disc Picture Drama so from the title people immediately know that these are picture dramas from a specially named DVD release rather than the traditional main DVD release. That was also the only way for me to differentiate the fan disc's Yukari tank corner from the main DVD's Yukari tank corner. http://myanimelist.net/anime/14685/Onegai%E2%98%86Teacher:_Reminiscence_Disk This is the only DB entry that using "Disk" in the title instead of "Disc" when it comes to extra content. If it's not a special spelling I suggest flipping it. |

Removing a Drama genre would be good in retrospect. In the OVAs there's no drama at all. |

| Doesn't make it invalid either. The point is, I know the series better than you and am against changes you proposed. I don't like the fact people like you mess with tags and change them to something inaccurate. Edit: Notice I deleted the movie link - I agree it is drama filled and doesn't focus on SoL. TV series and OVAs- no. And they most definitely portray daily life of idols. SoL isn't limited to high school setting and mundane existence. Idols live different life from commoners but the TV show actually is portraying their normal life. What we see in iM@S would normally be too outrageous for SoL but to 765 Pro girls - it is norm. Anime isn't 100% SoL but SoL plays big role in the show, definitely bigger than drama. |

| How do you know the series better than me? We know it equally. We both watched it. The other anime database sites don't list SoL for it either. MAL was the only site that had it. >Idols live different life from commoners but the TV show actually is portraying their normal life. Most of an idol's life is practice. Not commercials, shoots, concerts, and TV shows, and sabotage from a competing company. Those are wild, amazing, and wacky events; special events, but certainly not every day events which is a slice of their life. Love Live is a great example of an SoL idol anime, most episodes focus on the girls preparing for events rather than doing the actual event. Idols don't have major events every single day. Hence why Love Live has an SoL genre and why it's not fitting for Idolmaster. |

| http://myanimelist.net/anime/76/ http://myanimelist.net/anime/4985/ Why is the Nanoha franchise tagged as Super Power? I have only watched the first season and the first movie so far, which are basically the same, so I can't comment on later seasons (I hear it gets pretty battle shouneny, so again, won't comment) but this is a pretty standard Magic show, I thought Super Power was magic-less powers and whatnot and there's none of that here. | @progeusz, Did you read what was on the schedule? Stage costume meeting Meeting rounds Venue confirmation Scout new location Meet and greet Dance studio (practice) Recording studio Vocal Lesson Dance Lesson "Konin" CM Audidion and so on. Almost every episode wasn't those things. It was some big-big event or big personal issue. A slice of their life would be focuses more on the every day things like practice. And of course the schedule will "look" busy. They use the same board to map out all 13 girls' schedules. If you read MAL's definition of SoL it doesn't say that being plot driven excludes it from the genre. Then what, Idolmaster isn't plot driven since you want an SoL genre? Because in the first ep they literally state the goal is to become the Top Idol. Which is what they focus on and reach by the end of the anime. > Edit: I just looked at your list and it's pretty obvious you don't understand the appeal of Slice of Life shows. That's why I would like if you stopped commenting on them. How did you assess that I don't understand the appeal of SoL from looking at my list?
