It stems from her power to control and her lust for sadism which is why she wants Tatsumi.. Because she wants to break him.. Honestly I'm surprised(not really) the anime is painting her in this light to soothe the fanbase She's not a bad character she's ok but the praise she gets you'd think she was the best written character in the series.. I'd take almost every Jaeger over her.. Well except Run.. Not fond of mysterious characters that only stay mysterious |

| It's all pretty much been said but I'd like to throw my two sense in here if it's not too much trouble. I feel as though I could like Esdeath more, provided she undergo actual character development. Right now she only has a well established character. "Development" would imply that changes occur with her, whether suddenly or gradually. For me I could only ever imagine her with Tatsumi if one of them changed. I would prefer the one who changes be Esdeath. If it were Tatsumi, I would lose respect him entirely. It would be the bad ending and he would be the worst MC ever. My main problem with Esdeath is not torture chambers, the aid to Imperial corruption, or even the insatiable need for violence and bedlam. My main gripe is her manifest destiny driven mindset. It makes her seem primitive and vulgar and it undermines everything that might good about her while making all of the bad things seem 10x worse. I have extremely mixed feelings towards Esdeath but I feel like I could like her a lot more if she just underwent a little bit of humbling. It should be something that causes her to understand what it means to be weak and being forced to rely on someone else. After that, we could get an further in depth look at her character as her values are shaken and her convictions are put to the test. That's what I mean by character development. I know something like that is really obvious and borderlines cliche. It would also be the rise of a major death flag, in this series but I still want to see her go through some changes. As she is now she's a very basic antagonist with no real purpose in the story accept to antagonize. |

| If Esdeath were a man I think I'd like her character just as much. Me being a girl (and asexual), the "bewbs" aspect is completely irrelevant. What i like about Esdeath is 1. Her sadism and mercilessness (everyone has a bit of an S inside of them :p) 2. Strength 3. Treats her allies warmly 4. Is honest. No nonsense or bull (I think this is one of her best traits) What I don't like about her 1. Obsession with Tatsumi 2. Doesn't seem to have any other interests or goal |
