Candor said: JD2411 said: how about this from Bleach?judals said: fairy tail isn't in it but this is a pretty famous comparison of the threeJD2411 said: Examples of "good backgrounds" from each series?I think Kubo has the nicest character designs but his backgrounds aren't as good as kishi's, oda's or mashima's and a background: They're still not as detailed as Kishi's or Oda's, but still. Bleach has always been about fights, which means it's about the characters and their fights with each other, and at that, Kubo does a great job (characters are shallow for the most part, as in a lot of other series, but consider it your mindless fun with good-looking and badass characters/moments) . Tbh he can draw a lot more impactful character reactions than the other 2. Examples: OP Naruto Bleach Actually, Kishi's has the best expression judging from those three. The context of the panels of course however is still important for the impact to happen, so I didn't really think those pictures would be that impactful on their own to anyone, but the difference in the art detail shows, or the potential impact, especially in the Yamamoto picture. It's still a panel from each series, which doesn't really say much but that's basically how good each can get from my experience in all 3 series. (One Piece has the lowest impactful art, Naruto has some really impactful panels, albeit those are few, Bleach has really impactful panels and there's a decent amount of them, but compared to others, Bleach doesn't have that many backgrounds, which really isn't a bad thing) tbh, all of them have minimal impact, which is why I prefer it in anime form. Voices and motion add so much to the experience of emotion, and in that regard both Naruto and One Piece trump Bleach for me, so I guess it makes it even worse for Bleach. |

It really depends on what kind of impact you're looking for! I mean none of the image you guys showed has as much impact on me as this one. There is other emotion that you can convey through your art besides pissed-off/menacing face, surprise or other more lighthearted emotion should count when you discuss about impact of an art. Also, I disagree with your comment about the background. |

Problem with OP's art is that every expression is the same. All crying faces are the same, all surprised, angry, funny faces. Like there's a template for each emotion and he just finishes the design. And there's the way the expressions don't really convey the emotion well. But that's got the execution to blame as well. |

You just have to look at the image by Candor to see that Luffy's pissed off face isn't the same as Zoro's. It wouldn't be hard to prove you wrong with other images showing character crying and the like. There are some surprised that are used like the Enel's one, but it is more of a running joke that lack of creativity. |

Dat Eneru face was one of the reasons I loved Skypiea in the manga, and when I actually watched it in all its animated glory I loved it even more. |

And standard emotion... If you want, but I don't see how those pissed off/menacing face that you can find easily in a lot of battle seinen are any less standard. ichii_1 said: So you spend at least 5 min looking at the backgrounds on each page right? since they're so important and all. So now having a similar face to express a determinate emotion in the same author is a sign of laziness? Which is anyway not true. For instance with crying we have different models: ^Best one lol Robin in this chapter but pretty much this scene And a lot more I guess, really, the only thing all these have in common is the continuous flowing of a tear in the face and the snot, because apparently Oda loves snot xD |

To me islands in the freaking clouds and finally seeing all those sea creatures we'd met before in their home underwater was a great experience. |
