I'm of the opinion that MAL was long overdue for a useful wiki, so let me introduce to you all the:
MAL Community Wiki
It'll be a part-information, part-entertainment wiki that lets users know what is going on MAL. I figured it would best fit in the Creative Corner section. It could be basically anything, really. Anything that helps bridge the gap between different social cliques on the site, like: accurate, factual information on regular posters, memorable/funny threads with links/screenshots, rants about the forum rules, etc.
I've made a few empty links on the upper navigation. I'm probably going to start off by focusing on the 'MAL Secrets' section, because it should help new users find information that's usually asked for in about a million threads (apps and stuff, stuff that should be able to be Google'd).
Since it's via Wikia, anyone should pretty much be able to edit it. I think you get even more control over editing if you create an account. I'm not sure though, I've never really bothered with wikis before. I'm certainly no expert.
Need to contact someone about the Wiki?
Contact either myself or worldeditor11 in regards to wiki edits (such as page/image deletion) that can't be done by normal users.
Concerned about accuracy and hardcore horse porn?
Don't be. Other than a bit of helpful info, the user information pages are edited by the community at large. Obviously this isn't going the way the wiki was originally intended to be, but at the same time I didn't think it'd get this popular this fast. The only behaviour not tolerated on the wiki is replacing every page with porn/gore - if you have pent up frustration, just make a new page and put all your dick throbbing pornos there. Get creative, put a user's name below your esteemed collection of porn.
Adding to the Wiki
Alright, so here are some things I've been figuring out:
1. When you make a page, make sure you set its category to whatever section it's going in on the navigation at the top. Do it just like this. It just makes it way easier to navigate.
2. I've re-enabled to old-style wikia editor. You can do lots of neat stuff.
3. If a page reaches maximum bestness, I can 'protect' that page from editing.
How to make a forum poster's page look super professional
I've added a custom infobox template for MAL users, an example of which can be seen on my own page. To use this template, just do this when posting or editing a page:
0. Upload the user's image to the wiki. You can do this by clicking 'Photo' under 'Add features and media' (you can just delete it from the page after uploading it).
1. Click on 'add other templates' under the Templates heading on the right-hand side.
2. Put mal in the search box.
3. Click on 'Template:Malinfobox' and then click the insert button.
4. Enter in each attribute you know on the left, putting in the image's name (avatar.jpg) in the image box (it doesn't have to be the full url, just the name and file type of what it was on your computer).
5. Only the first three attributes will show all the time, the rest will be hidden if nothing is entered into them. You can click the 'preview' button to see what it will look like.
6. If you wish to edit this again, click on the little green jigsaw piece that appears after you've inserted it and then click 'edit.'
Assuring your page is in the right category
In order to make the wiki easier to navigate, it's important your page is in a category. You can add/edit categories on the right-hand side of the page editing window, at at the bottom of an already created page.
The following are the current categories, they are case sensitive:
Boards
Competitions
Regular Posters
Moderators
Admins
Other Users
Groups
Humor
Drama
BREAKING NEWS
Apps
CSS
Greasemonkey Scripts
