Art are subjective.

If you like it, it's good.
If you don't like it, it's because you don't understand it.

Art is the last thing I think of during judging the quality of anime. Discarding an anime because of 'bad' art is like judging a book by its cover.

Um, not really. Anime is a visual medium so visuals play a crucial part in judging how much you like a show.

I don't see any reason why you can't ignore an anime that has visuals you aren't remotely interested in.

I just get a bit sad when people say they won't watch Monster or Utena because of 'bad' art.
Anime like any other medium, is a form of storytelling. The story, characters should always come first imho.

I'm not interested in art. I read one piece and hunter x hunter, both have horrible art, I don't care.

If you're talking about their respective manga, then I'd say that they both have great art (well, Hunter X Hunter has good art when Togashi's not drawing scribbles and One Piece can be messy but very detailed compared to other battle series).

When people rate art they mean art style, there is no good or bad because it would've been good in some time and age. For example some people don't like the art style Clannad/ Clannad: AS uses. They don't like the tiny mouth thing, yet I think it's fine. Really it just comes down to preference.

My friend dropped Clannad because of the art style. I told him he should give it a second chance.

You're friend made the right choice
Yeah, he should watch it. Whether the show's good or bad is a different ball game.

Anything that doesn't have bad art, is good art. No need for applause, i'm only sharing my wisdom.

Can we at least agree that the way the mouths move in anime is kind of silly, since they basically rarely sync up with how the words are said?

It takes a ton of effort and money to animate mouth movements, so most animators just take the easy way out in order to focus on more important things. But there are some anime with excellent lip synching, like Omohide Poro Poro and Akira, both of which recorded the voices before doing the animation.

I personally am a fan of exaggerated art style's such as Kill la Kill's or JoJo's. Alot of anime's have relatively the same style of art so its nice to see something different every now and then.

hmm... well we can ALL act like the art you can see doesn't matter

Just like abiding by "Don't judge a book by it's cover".

But it's the first thing we ever experience from most things in life.

even on a subconscious level the visual art and design of anything influences us too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It really is subjective. Lots of people say this down here is trash just because of the medium (OMG 3d!?!?! :O) it's in.

Of course i disagree but Y'know, opinions.

Unlike animation you can't quantify art and artstyles. Doesn't mean it can't influence my enjoyment though.
I probably regret this post by now.

I'm not 100% by what "art" exactly means but Kotono ha no niwa is one of the best looking anime I've ever seen.
