Yui is just... wow, so moe.
The OP and ED are pretty good and this episode got a few laughs out of me, particularly "Will 5000 yen be enough?"

I guess you could put the ED into the Visual Kei corner because of the outfits...

At the scene were Yui was in the staff room and dropped the printouts and banged her head at the desk, I just loved it.

I believe it will be a good series!!!

The problem is, which character you prefer, Yui or Mio?

Very fresh and original anime with nice animation, good direction, enjoyable characters and a great Lucky Star-ish, fun "slice of life" atmosphere. It may just be what I needed to enjoy this spring a bit more ;) Really interesting first episode, that has what most other recent animes lack, you know, this little thing that makes you want to watch the next episode and not letting go of this good feeling, the thing that we call "heart". It could become one great KyoAni series with time, even better than LS. I already love it.

Well, visual kei bands are made to appeal to a female audience so it's not surprising that they're generally composed of males. Most girls would much rather see boys dressing up like girls than... girls dressing up like girls. Not that you can't like those bands if you're a dude... I don't think anyone cares. Like I said, it's just that visual kei bands are generally made to appeal to a female audience. Whatever, I'm done.

But yeah... this shit is definitely not visual kei.

I saw that too, and thought it was great.

I said it before, but I'm thinking KyoAni has an obsession with the movie Linda Linda Linda. It looks like this going to be an entire series devoted to that movie, not just one episode like in Haruhi Suzumiya. I guess it's good that the movie was amazing and I think this series has serious potential. The art was great as always and the character design was interesting. I actually haven't watched Luck Star yet, but I guess I might need to watch it now.

Oh, and before anyone misunderstands, the music of the ED is definately poprock, but it could be classified as visual kei because of the looks. Many VK bands are just as poppy :P

Basically what Veronin said. Any show made by Kyoani get's treated like it's ten times as important, outstanding, groundbreaking and superior then it actually is. The impression I am getting is that 75% percent of this shows popularity comes from the fact that it's by this studio (who is really only this popular for this very phenomenon to begin with in a circular logic sort of way. "Kyoani shows are awesome! Why are they awesome? Because they are Kyoani shows and Kyoani shows are awesome!) and the other 25% comes from the show itself.

That said there's really nothing offensive about this show and it's alright with a few decent moments of light comedy, but there's really nothing that stands out about it at all yet beyond the fact that it's Kyoani made and thus is predestined to be trumped as a masterpiece by the end of it's run no matter what they decide to do with the adaptation and regardless of whether it actually deserves it.

LOL I agree but this is definitly better than Clanned imo and might be better than Lucky Star. It's more Miname-ke ish than Kyoani shows. The air-head ness is toned down to a watchable level.

I don't think many people have praised it that much.

It's an entertaining moeblob show with music and that's about it. There's definitely a lot of people going crazy over this simply due to KyoAni, though.

I'm definitely digging this show. KyoAni has done it again. Whether they produce serious dramas like Kanon/Clannad, or light-heart comedies like Haruhi and Lucky Star, their shows never fail to amuse me.

Also, I lol'd at all the people who was disappointed because they thought this show was supposed to be "serious". You already had a serious KyoAni show, and that was "Clannad"; it's time for them to go on a comedy break with K-ON.

That was...cute I suppose. I can see Mio becoming the fan favorite. Not much to say at this point in terms of quality. The drawing style isn't my cup of tea but it's not a big concern. I don't particularly like the OP or the song they played in the episode. The ED is alright though. The DMC reference was nice to have in there xD

A decent start.

And knowing that Mio was become the ultimate favorite, I tried not to love her. I think I failed, I'm a huge sucker for long black/blue hair and those pretty eyes. I preffered the ED over the OP too. Mio in that ending was fantastic. Yui was really cute, she reminds me of a clash between Fuko and Ayu.

Opening was shitty, but ending was OK (but nothing special). There is only one subbing group that is most know from they jokes, so I guess that I need to wait until some other group will be subbing it and then I can tell, is Coal Guys can make good subs.

But, about episode, there was few things that was rly rly stupid - main character, Yui, was pathetic. I cant stand anymore dose silly and clumsy characters in anime, it is too boring :? Those with dark hair was nice, but that's all. Rest of them (for now) are rather ee... grey? (mean that they just like a "Another-Main-Character") But there were good sides, as this is my first anime about bands (beside DMC m/), like unusally from supernatural shows plot, or possibilities to make a good plot from it. So 3/5 for now.

And I don't understand ppls that watched 1 ep and they give score to anime... It's just dumb... :?

Is it me or I saw the death metal guy from other show?

Yest, that was Krauser II from DMC \m/ ^^

Congrats, KyoAni, you've made the most generic school life moeblob show ever created. Not that I'm surprised, since with all of their good school life moeblob series, eventually one would end up like this.

It was pretty cute, though. I guess I'll watch a few more episodes and/or check out the manga before I make any real judgments.

One thing really bugged me though: the color palette. It's just so BROWN. This is not a series that should be brown and dull.

Finally, the OP and ED are excellent. Definitely looking forward to full-sized versions.

I for one, don't mind "moeblob" shows, and frankly, I like them because they all remind of one another. Tell me, how exactly can a moeblob show be vastly different from one another? They all star "moe" high school girls doing everyday job. You can't be expecting something totally different... you either like the genre, or you don't.

I have enjoyed other series similar to K-on! though; Azumanga Daioh and Strawberry Marshmallow are two of my favorite series. Some series like this make me laugh a ton. I find some of them ridiculously cute. Plenty of them have characters that deviate enough from their archetypes to be interesting on their own merits. It's not that I don't like the genre, it's that K-on! is so far not reaching the genre's full potential.

Clannad wasn't exactly a serious show. Other than a quick burst between episodes 15-20 of After Story where they really gave it feeling, the rest of the show was either overwrought drama or silly slapstick comedy and moeblob moments.

And after mulling over my thoughts on this show again last night I feel that it's harmless and just engaging enough to pass the time on a lazy afternoon, but I doubt I am ever going to claim this as a stand out series.

Also if people are just chilling and trying to enjoy this show then I am more than happy to chill with them and shoot the breeze on it, but if people start trying to sell this show as anything more then a laid back slice of life fun for the family afternoon cool off show well....I can't say I'm going to respond with an acknowledgment so much as a complete dismissal and a "no upselling please and thank you".

I beg to differ. Clannad is a drama with its comedy and lighthearted moments, but the central theme of it is serious: the feelings of belonging in a family (unless you don't consider family as a "serious" matter). There were moeblob and comedic moments for comic relief, but overall, you can NOT classify Clannad in the same genre as Lucky Star or Suzumiya Haruhi. K-ON just happens to be in the comedic area produced by KyoAni.

Meh, for a comedy anime K-On really wasn't all that comedic in it's first outing. I'd prefer to use the word whimsical. And yes the central theme of Clannad in family is a serious affair (Especially appealing to me since I am a social sciences graduate), but it gets mishandled a little during the last couple of episodes in my opinion, hence it loses a fair bit of it's seriousness and impact. I would have ended it around episode 20 if I was the director, but unfortunately they had to go with the game's good end.

Still I despite all of this I would put it in the drama department before comedy.
