The first time was in 2009 or 2010, it was Death Note. I was interested in anime for some reason and wanted to give it a shot so I found a long list of recommended anime and randomly chose Death Note. I loved it, and after that came Code Geass, Monster, I love the feeling of being connected to the characters the intense story lines. Anime is the shit.

I honestly think it was Puni Puni Poemy, which was totally hilarious to 12-year-old me. Not so much now. Up until that point, I kind of hated anime (without ever having given the medium a real chance, of course), so that short OVA turned me on to other shows like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, which I ended up loving (and still love). :D

For me, it was Trigun. It was the first time I really felt impressed with a storyline on television, and I really wasn't expecting it to come from a "weird foreign cartoon." Which... it is. But it was pretty awesome. XP

Precisely now I'm watching that anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion. When I was 14 years old, I returned to saw Dragon Ball, a nostalgia attack, and that impressed me. Later, I started to see animes, and the first was Evangelion. But now is better to me than three years ago.

Death Note, Naruto, these are examples of the typical animes for the "masses". But after these, there are in the world fantastic works that the majority of anime supporters dont known. The otaku world, really are the same as the rest of hobbies.

DBZ and Slayers (Dub) as a kid. I thought they were cartoons back then though. One Piece is what truly got me into anime and subs.

When I was a kid (5/6 years old) I watched Doraemon, Dragon Ball, Digimon, Pokemon, Sailor Moon and other non-anime cartoons on TV. I didn't know that these shows were animes, just cartoons. I remember that I had a "crush" on Digimon (the first season), but I didn't see the following seasons, I don't know why lol. Later, I heard my colleagues talk about Naruto, but it didn't push me to watch Naruto or other animes. In 2009, a friend of mine talked about Digimon again, he was (and he still is) addicted to that anime, so I decided to rewatch the anime. I loved and I became a sort of Digi Maniac. Then, I were exposed to more animes and I decided to rewatch DBZ too. I loved DBZ even more than Digimon and it became my favorite anime. Later, I was watching even more animes, like Death Note and TTGL. Nowadays, I don't have a big list of watched animes, but I am increasing it. So, the animes that made me really like anime were Digimon and Dragon Ball Z. Note: Sorry if I commit sometimes some grammar mistakes, I'm not that fluent in English lol

I miss clicked on youtube and ended up on some amv of that blue haired chick. So i decided to give it a try, not like i had anything better to do. best decision i have ever made lol. |

I was really young, and in the sunday morning i used to watch sailor moon with my sister :D i didnt even know that it was anime and i didnt even really think that why do they use so funny words ( japanese language:D). couple years later on the same channel came fullmetal alchemist. i was still pretty young and didnt know that it was anime. but i liked the way sailor moon and fullmetal alchemist were drawn, so thats where i started to draw manga :D i dont remember how i figured out that they were anime but since then i have been a huge fan of anime and manga :D i was maybe in 1-2 grade when i watched sailor moon :0

Watched stuff like DBZ, Gundam, Tenchi Muyo, Ronin Warriors, Zoids, and yes, Sailor Moon on Cartoon Network(TOONAMI!!) as a kid. I honestly have no idea which came first, but DBZ had the most impact on me. The stories and animation were so much better than anything else on TV, and I really got into them. Years later I ended up seeing Bleach, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, and Kekkaishi on Adult Swim, and that was about a year ago. After waiting a whole week for the next episodes for a while, I decided to try to find them online...And here I am now :P

Naruto circa the fight with Zabuza on TV made me actually go on the computer and start torrenting anime. I watched anime before but only when they aired on TV. I think I started watching Naruto in 2004. So yeah, Naruto was my gateway anime, and even though I don't like it very much anymore I still have a soft spot for it.

At first, it was Dragon ball, but then I stopped for a long time. Then recently, August 8, I had an injury with my back during football and could hardly move for 3 weeks. Needless to say, I had wondered about anime and wanted to see if it was good. Chobits kept me entertained for about 2 days. That reignited my spark for anime.

As a young lad I walked into my local video store and looked around seeing there were no movies worth watching at the time. I then spotted something called Trigun, which sounded interesting so I rented it. Loved it.

Skipping Pokemon, Digimon, Hamtaro, Bayblade, etc..... I was in grade 6, and I used to live in this tiny apartment, so I shared a room with my brother and my sister. This one night I passed out early, only to wake up again around 10:20-ish. My brother was watching television, and I didn't recognize the show. It was Inuyasha. I can actually still remember the exact episode, and part of the episode that I checked into (Down the Rabbit Hole and Back Again, and the part where he was burying Kaede, hehe). Luckily for me, it was only the third episode in, because it weirdly intrigued me. Since I only got to watch 10 minutes of the episode, I was completely bummed out when it ended. But miraculously, another episode came on! I don't know if anyone who lives in Canada remembers when they used to play back/back episode of Inuyasha every friday night, but I digress. I was so intrigued by the show at the end of the 4th episode (Yura of the Demon Hair), that I decided to Google the show in the morning. I found out that it came on every friday night, and surely enough, I tuned in. My brother and I loved the show, so literally every friday we'd be on the couch in my room watching it. After I gave my first "real" anime a fair shot, my brother insisted that I try DBZ. I've always had this strange vendetta out for DBZ for ABSOLUTELY no reason, but I gave it a shot, and I enjoyed it too. Not as much as Inuyasha, though. DBZ used to come on monday - thursday, and I'd watch it with my brother every night. Eventually YTV began playing Dragon Ball in the timeslot right before DBZ, and I fell in love with that show too! After a few steady months of this schedule, they replaced DBZ with Inuyasha. I couldn't tell you HOW excited I was. I used to be able to watch 2 episodes a week, but suddenly I could watch 4+2! It was fucking beautiful. Anyway, fast forward to grade 7, and I got MAD hated on for liking anime. Like, fucking ridiculously. I still watched Inuyasha, but I refrained from telling anyone. Eventually, I got friends that liked to go out on Friday nights, so I couldn't catch those episodes anymore, and because of all of the discouragement, I stopped watching it on TV. That was around grade 8 though. I was almost done with the whole show (probably on episode 130 or something + I spoiled and watched the final episode heh) so I didn't miss tooo too much. In the summer going into grade 10 (grade 9 summer) my friend began to watch Elfen Lied, after her sister recommended it to her. Suddenly, one of the people who discouraged me from watching anime started to watch it herself (although she wasn't too bad. My friends have always had a somewhat open mind about these things). Memories of watching Inuyasha started to flood back into my mind, and I suddenly wanted to watch another one. Suddenly, I remembered something from YEARS back. This one time I was in my local library, trying to kill time, and I decided to read a manga. The author was Rumiko Takahashi, and I knew that she also made Inuyasha, so this was probably a good one too. It was Ranma 1/2. I took the book out of the library, and read that one volume practically over and over. Mind you, I had NO FUCKING CLUE what was going on (guy turns into girl? Whhaaaa???) but it was still kind of interesting. Anyway, flashback to the future, and I wondered if that was an anime. I took to Google, but since I couldn't really remember the name (I thought it was called Gundam 1/2... yup, I crossed 2 anime..) it took me a long time to find it. Eventually though, I found it, found out it was an anime as well, and began watching it on YouTube. After I finished Ranma 1/2, I finished off the episodes of Inuyasha that I didn't finish. And the rest is pretty much history. REALLY FUCKING LONG, SORRY ;D

I just want to say one thing and i hope there are others that feel the same way but here its goes TOONAMI CHANGED MY LIFE!!!!!!!!! From DBZ to Gundam Wing, from Tenchi Muyo to Rurouni Kenshin, and so much more and i was a kid(in the 1990s) then so i just assumed that i was watching regular shows not knowing at the time it was called anime. Other shows that i would watch on other networks were inferior to the line up i was watching. Even adult swim starting showing anime. The first one i can remember was Yu Yu hakusho. Now other networks did have stuf like pokemon, yugi oh!, and digimon. But it all started with Toonami and DBZ

DBZ got me watching anime, Cowboy Bebop taught me anime could be super cool and stylish while having substance, and Death Note sealed it with it's dark, complex plot and anti-hero protagonist. Those were all years ago and I've seen close to a thousand titles at this point (my list is still under construction) but all three of these remain nostalgic favorites of mine even if I've now seen things that far surpass them in my mind.
