Jesus. Some of you shitforbrains need to lay off SAO. I mean it's not the worst anime on here, and yet you treat it like it's the worst creation of mankind. Sure it's popular and people like it, but that it's popularity has already started to fall. PLus, who cares if someone has different tastes than you? If you want to cry about the same shit for eternity go to 4chan, they'll gladly accept you.

This felt very wise.

While I do accept the fact that it is within human nature to quarrel, I honestly don't see the problem with SAO.

I've read here somewhere that it's "objectively bad". First of all, there is no such thing as objectivity in this medium. It's not physics, it's not math, the quality of SAO cannot and will not be a constant.

Secondly, some people like it, some people don't. The amount of popularity it gets is based on how much people talk about it, not how many people like it.

I don't consider SAO to be the pinnacle of anime, but definitely not the worst of the bunch. It was entertaining, and honestly, that's what it's all about. You all seem so keen on putting anime on a pedestal and consider it the absolute art form, that you forget maybe the most important thing: it's entertainment. It's supposed to entertain you.

Whatever that "entertainment" might be for you, that's in the eye of the beholder.

That doesn't make sense. I post in these threads when I come across them because, for now, it's fun to pretend to be a "hater" who fulfill the fanboys wishes of using illogical arguments. It's as simple as that. I don't care if anyone/everyone knows my actual serious opinion on SAO, and in fact I don't think I've ever posted it.

Even though you said this, you don't seem to understand it. It's quite possible that some people are only entertained by compelling plots, well developed characters, use of symbolism, etc. In other words, considering and dissecting anime as "the absolute art form" is a perfectly legitimate way to get enjoyment from it.

Yep, you just "happen" to come across these threads and just "happen" to read the "fanboys" and you just "happen" to feel the need to respond and you just "happen" to do it several times a day.

Fanboys are idiots, they don't say anything except drooling "SAO is great". I would bet you good money that THEY are the ones doing it for laughs, because they only post once and are done. But those who claim they are only in for amusement, they HAVE to respond, on every thread, several times a day, repeating the same old thing. That isn't "fun", that is an obsession one that the fake fanboys jerk your chain on, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and you all fall for it each and every time.

As for your "serious" response. Please, transparent is opaque in comparison.

I do it several times a day because I browse the forums several times a day, lol. MAL is a small forum, I don't need to go out of my way to see almost everything. Hardly an obsession. If the fanboys are having fun too then that's awesome, we're all having fun.

I don't know what to say about that second bit. I guess I'll let you believe what you will.

There are those who love the series, and those who dislike the series. Those who dislike the series start nitpicking flaws to back up their bullshit. But if you start nitpicking in any series, you'll generate enough reasons to berate every series. But everyone here would have to unanimously face it - SAO is the most discussed series this year if not for the past 10 years. Had it been truly 'overrated', no one would bother even talking about it. (unless the act of overrating is actually perceived by many as viable reason to spend half of their pathetic lives complaining about it)

The problem with fanboys is that they always try to compose themselves by starting out with a pretentious air of impartiality, but they can never help themselves from making that leap in logic to express what they really want to say -- that criticism of the show is bullshit for no other reason than that the critic was focusing on parts of the show that they were not.

This post started out okay: "There are those who love the series, and those who dislike the series." Fair enough. But those who dislike the series start nitpicking flaws! It never occurred to Tsundereppoi that maybe details are what separates a good anime from a bad one, and that some people may be attentive to those details. But never mind that, non-specific criticism is fluff and specific criticism is nitpicking -- criticism deflected.

This statement makes no sense. The idea of something being 'overrated' requires contrast between 2 vantage points: the general and the individual. Something is said to be overrated when there's an unusually large disparity between the general opinion and the individual opinion, with the general opinion being higher. That almost by definition requires people to talk about it (since they rate it highly).

Bloodhound Gang - I Hope You Die

You must die I alone am best!

I hope ya flip some guy the bird
He cuts you off and you're forced to swerve
In front of the Beatles' tour bus
A Bookmobile and a Mack truck
Hauling hazardous biological waste
The light turns red you have no brakes
And "Hard Copy" gets it all on tape
So you can see the look on your face

Die Die Die Die Die Die Die
Die Die Die Die Die Die Die

I hope your Pinto begins to spin
Takes out a disabled Vietnam Veteran
Mows down a Nobel Peace Prize Winner
And maybe some orphans having Christmas dinner
Perhaps even the British Royal Family
And the Rabbi that's clutching the bottle-fed puppy
And we can't forget the newlyweds
And those Jerry's Kids are as good as dead

I hope this helps to emphasize
I hope this helps to clarify
I hope you die

I hope your cellmate thinks he's God
But C.N.N. refer to him as "Bowling Ball Bag Bob"
Serving time again for abuse of a corpse
Only this time the victim's a Clydesdale horse
While he masturbates to photos of livestock
He does the "Silence of the Lambs" dance to Christian Rock
Eats feces and quotes from "Deliverance"
And fights with his imaginary playmate Vince

Die Die Die Die Die Die Die
Die Die Die Die Die Die Die

I hope he grins like Jack Nicholson
And forces you to play a game called "Balls On Chin"
And whatever happens next is all a blur
But you remember "fist" can be a verb
And when you finally regain consciousness
You're bound and gagged in a wedding dress
And the prison guard looks the other way
'Cause he's the guy ya flipped the bird the other day

I hope this helps to emphasize
I hope this helps to clarify
I hope you die

Wut?
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

Naruto & Bleach had been airing for a long time... hence the accumulation of hate(criticism). The cause of hate in SAO is because there's some serious plot holes in the series, from my perspective.

Because series in group 2 contradict their theming and - unlike some series in group 1 - feature way worse writing and in general poor execution.

However, your grouping is awkward. Madoka and Doctor Who are the only ones I would give credit for when it comes down to good writing/storytelling general. Code Geass (especially R2) is just as shitty as group 2, Death Note's second half is really bad, Clannad (like most Key works) is forced drama that uses REALLY cheap devices to get the tears flow, etc.
The Monogatari franchises good fcactor does not lie in its unique story or character design, but rather in Nisio's style of writing. It has much more harem elements than SAO and the fanservice is blatant at times, as well. However, the over-the-top and semi-ironic approach Nisio has in rgeards to those archetypes, combined with has puns and - I admit that - otaku-pandering references makes it interesting.

I grouped them that way based upon my own personal experience of how much hate/trolling I have seen relative to that show.

Group 1 DOES get people who hate them too. However when you compare them to Group 2, who I would argue are equally popular franchises, the hate Group 2 gets is far more vocal.

I was just thinking the same thing. I've seen people call it overrated but I don't remember anyone saying it was bad. Hell, I'm a HUGE Final Fantasy fan and even I think FFVII is a wee bit overrated. Although, if we're comparing FFVII to new age RPGs, FFVII is a god damn masterpiece in regards to storytelling...although, that's more of a statement at just how bad RPGs have been lately and not how great FFVII is.

Group 1: Bakemonogatari, Code Geass, Clannad, Doctor Who, Hellsing Ultimate, Puella Madoka, Death Note

Group 2: Naruto, Bleach, SAO, Final Fantasy 7

Both groups contain absurdly popular media. So what makes The Hate stronger with Group 2 *in comparison* to Group 1?
People hate FF7?

I guess using hate as a general term is bad in retrospect, but yes that's what I meant. People don't *hate* FF7, but rather the gy-normous amount of praise it has received (overrated).

"Like zomg, Sephiroth is like the best villan evar!1111!!!!"

"d00d, and the battle system is so friggin tubular."

Multiply that by infinity and that's the praise it gets.

It's just a popularity "rating".No big deal. Some give up on Madoka simply due to the art or the chars being girls.Nothing to do with the story.

LOL SAO sure is popular then cause it just passed Madoka with 7150 favorites vs. 7149 favorites. It was a close race. Both my favorite animes, well done both, now let's shake hands!

This show is so overrated. How is this rated higher than Psycho Pass? I don't understand. SAO is entertaining but it has too many plot holes, a serious lack in world building, and mediocre plot to be top tier.

Yea. It's annoying how people are able to enjoy things I don't enjoy. They should stop doing that.

Psycho Piss is crap as well.

They should stop doing that! But for srs, MAL ratings make me angry sometimes. If you're rating something a 8.40 on average, that means its one of the best shows out there. SAO isn't bad IMO but its hardly amazing. kthx.

@BloodRequiem, idk man its a pretty good show. Gen Urobuchi is obv the best guy ever when he makes all his characters suffer. And yo that episode 1 opening? Its just like Fate/Zero! So clearly this is the best show ever.
