Lol, he was barely in the first book, man. Cut him some slack.

@wonpie_: It has a lot of fans, but if you take it on its own, it's a good book, like many others. Ignore the hype. It doesn't change the book for worse or better.

Almost done with Cry Wolf. Vera nice. :D

@puedjies: I actually liked the second book better than the first. Her ability to write emotion convincingly really comes across in that one, but then again, some people might find it too dramatic. Once you finish chapter three, I believe, you'll have a good idea of whether it's worth it to continue.

Thanks for the advice, new_user. I realize that since I found even the first book too dramatic, an improvement of the author's ability to write in an even more overblown-romance-overtone won't suit me.

Yeah.. I get that. I just don't like the way the girls I know seem to feel that if I read the book I'll be able to go "Edward Cullen is so hot *gushgushgush*" with them and if I don't I'm out of the loop. Which is why I'd rather wait till they've stopped obsessing over the book then I'll read it.

Anyway, reading one of the Series of Unfortunate Events: The Hostile Hospital by Lemony Snicket. I've always loved that series :3

Normally I'd be reading Stephen King but right now I'm reading Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. I'm only a few chapters in it but I've been busy with Anime, Video Games, ect. I can read much better when I'm in School. ^^

I'm almost half way through The Town That Forgot How To Breath by Kenneth J. Harvey.

I'd really like to get my hands on one of the Joker-focused comics, as well as the entire set of translated Ringu series novels.

I heard that book is ultra fucked up. I have been wanting to read it for a while now. Supposed to involve a lot of taboo's and no-nos. ^__^

A few years ago I tried to read Emma, because I'm partly named after this book, but it was just not interesting and definitely not my kind of novel.

I'm reading Chemistry for Dummies, as a small summer couse as I amazingly failed in chemistry last school year, a book about Japanese modern art and a Discworld novel. All three are fun.

The Gunslinger by Stephen King, I'm a little behind on that one, I know. I've somehow managed to go like 2 years without reading a book. I know it's blasphemy, but I just never did. Figured I'd start out strong.

Ah, I read about half that book a few years ago, then shelved it once I found out that it was part of an epic saga of seven or so books, in favor or reading some of King's more obscure works, such as the novels he wrote as Richard Bachman. I am thinking about picking it back up, because I am in the mood for an epic saga of sorts, and the series I was reading before (The Wheel of Time by Robert Jorden) was well over 10,000 pages long, which is way way to fucking long for me.... A few of King's books I recommend would be..

The Running Man
Thinner
Rage (not sold in stores, might have to get it off ebay - blamed for influencing Columbine)
The Long Walk
Carrie (but of course)
I'm back.

I tend to like long stories when I end up reading. It's a good way to pass the time, however, I can't comment much on the story. I started like... This morning.

I usually like shorter Horror stories such as Poe's works or Lovecraft's, but longer stuff is good on occasion for me, 400 pages seems to be my limit.

What is it with me and epics? If I'm not reading some life saga (for example Darren Shan or Harry Potter) I'm reading epic poetry lol. Roald Dahl wrote some excellent short stories, in general but I mean his stuff for adolescents like Skin and Henry Sugar.

I'm in the middle of Series of Unfortunate Events. I finished Vile Village and am starting Hostile Hospital.

I'm also reading White Oleander by Janet Finch (I think that's the last name, I'm too lazy to look) and re-reading Gingerbread by Rachel Cohn.

I can't wait to get my hands on the famous Lolita.

First one just called 'the summoner'. I don't remember the name of the author, but it's one of those female authors who don't look around before writing their drivel.
I would give more info, but, the bookcase is 2 floors down xD

Ah, the author is Gail Z. Martin, and apparently, that is her debut novel, so she may have yet to work out the kinks.

Gotta love wikipedia.

Not sure if this was the case for you, but it may be best to start with a more established author, if you're new to a genre.

I'd recommend the series I'm currently reading to you, George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, but you're a little young, although I guess just mentioning the name is enough, haha.. Let's just say it keeps the fantasy cliches to a minimum.

How about a couple of old favorites I read when I was around your age..

Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams and The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist. Not sure how well they'd stand up now, but I enjoyed both immensely at the time. And for something a little lighter, I'll throw in one of my childhood faves.. Lloyd Alexander's classic The Chronicles of Prydain.

Oh man, this is making me all kinds of nostalgic. I shall stop.

I don't mind. I'm heavily into the fantasy genre, even the longer fine-print hardcore fantasy - after all my experience I brought enough together to make a pretty epic storyline for a manga I plan to make within the year.

(I got sick and tired with religious debates on other forums, so I basically just toyed around with the concept of god - and from that I somehow wrote enough material for a whole two seasons - lots of bleach style fighting and philosophy attached!)

Good book. I really enjoyed it back in the day.

Focus

I'm presently reading the fourth book in the Dark Tower series, "Wizard and Glass". Quite possibly the greatest, most epic series of novels ever written. Why the hell haven't they been made into movies yet? If anyone liked the LOTR movies, they would be like kindergarten story time compared to this.

I'm trying really hard to get into The Road. I'm at the beginning and the pacing isn't doing it for me. I respect the writing quality and imagery; I see how it got the Pulitzer. Even so, I'm debating getting a different book. Can anybody tell me if the pacing increases?

Yeah, I've read it. How far are you into it? Is this the first Cormac McCarthy book you've ever read?

Assuming you've only read through the first thirty pages or so, the pace does increase, but it's really more of a cerebral, philosophical book than straightforward, exciting action, which is emblematic of most of McCarthy's works.
