Hey, I'm pretty sure people have brought it up before, but your 'Voices of a Distant Star' review contains a scientifically untrue conjecture. No amount of futuristic technology, fiction or otherwise, can overcome the laws of physics. The text messages take 8 years to reach Earth because any form of communication would take 8 years to reach Earth; That's the speed of light.

Even if you still don't like how the premise is presented (which is fine, I don't like it either), docking points for being scientifically correct while scoffing at it for being so is undue and only serves to mislead others. Just because science fiction is fiction doesn't mean it can't grounded in reality, in fact it needs to be grounded in reality for a frame of reference.

I know you wrote that review in 2010, but your review is on the front page so I just had to make a comment.

Cheers and I don't mean anything personal by this.

Saw your review about Hoshi no Koe, thought it was well-organized but lacking in research regarding Makoto Shinkai's works and time/space and data transmission through space -- e.g. even with advanced mechas, space/time doesn't change its behavior. I always imagined that Hoshi no Koe was done really low budget simply as the child of Makoto Shinkai's raw passion -- he wrote, directed, produced and did the voices with his girlfriend, and his friend did the music. I can imagine as a first work, it shows more about Shinkai than about... the [lack of] story.

Just my 2 cents.
