I think what happened in this episode is TOO CONVENIENT for Shu.
But that is how the story goes.

To sum it up.
Shu and Haruka aren't related at all. Haruka is Shu's second mother.
The big guy Ogumo died.
That Segai guy finally closed his own curtains.

The only thing that making me hate what is happening right now is because the remaining classmates and the remaining Funeral Parlor members just abandoned Shu when he got his arms sliced off, and then resolve that quickly?

I guess I need to see the next episode.

Ah, it's too bad Segai is dead in this episode.
He's my fav antagonist in this series, and it's such a shame that his role is over.
Anyway, Shu got his void back, and can't wait to see what he will do next.

Okay episode...I pretty much expected Shu to take his new void in this episode because in 3 episodes the anime ends!!
The fighting scene was really good, and the OST of course was great...
Well, now I can't wait for the 3 final episodes and the battle between Shu and Gai.

Also, after Shu took the new void he is going to die, right?I mean his mother told that, the one that will use this void is going to die, so in the end Shu dies...

Fantastic episode. So, "Shu's Void gathers everything and assumes its weight: Strength, weaknesses, darkness, light, everything". What I expected from Shu.

Inori will probably relieve him from his burden, as seen in the opening. So we could confirm for a good end?

Too be completely honest, I think I'd prefer a bittersweet ending with him sacrificing himself to save everyone else and rid the cancer.

The point with Haruka not being his birth mother makes a lot of sense now, considering their original dynamic (him calling her Haruka instead of "kaa-san" or something else) was incredibly casual and something you'd never see realistically. Anyways, I liked it. Had its flaws but every show does, and this was at the higher end of the spectrum plot-wise. Only thing that pissed me off was Tsugumi suddenly going all gushy on dead!Oogumo when she showed no signs of it before.

Oh my GOD finally! Finally! I've waited 18 episodes for Shu to be genuinely gar with no strings attached! It was damn worth it.
I was anticipating his void to be a guilty ...wait for it... crown in the end, but getting back his arm is still more convenient, even if this bear-all-the-pain-of-the-world power smells Madoka to me :D

I was scared as hell Ayase will get the genom though...

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that. The whole time she was holding that little suitcase, I was hoping for my boy Segai to show up. Imagining Ayase with the king's power... No, just no. Would get killed in no time.

I kinda wanted Segai to get it...kinda...

I really like how Shu turned out to be a more dependent character, which stood in contrast to his previous emotional behaviour.
My friend told me some time ago that his arm could be his void, but i haven't believed in it until after the scene where his arm got cut off...
You were right all the time! xD

The title "Guilty Crown" also became more meaningful after the revealing of the power of Shu's void...

This made my thursday like every week (but only 3 more times T__T)

Don't let it eeeend!

I'm pretty sure everyone was aware of the high possibility that Haruka wasn't his real mom on the first episode she appeared. Though I don't see the family resemblance between her and Mana.... Pink... hair? Guess shes probably an experiment of some sort.

But Gai is just a suck-ass version of Griffith. Pft pft pft. Unless the other theory that he's doing it with another motive, which would be highly likely with the consistency of this anime.

So we all know Shu's fate now...

Also it looks like Shu's void also replica's of other peoples voids so their "heart" is in no real danger if it is destroyed. That's what I think at least because he was able to create Yahiro's void without even drawing it out, plus the void looks different.

Since we know what Shu's void does now I assume he is gonna gather everyone's "cancer" and have it perish with his own body... Make's me kinda sad knowing what will happen to him and how nothing can stop it. This is the fate of the king. Tragic.

This episode reminds me of Scott Pilgrim climax scene.

Shu has earned the power of Self Respect!! *power up noise*

Segai is such a sadist. This episode was as much about Segai as it was about Shu's revelation. They seem to give him a nice farewell episode by showing him in all his glory. The scene where he tortures and kills the young girl was awkward. It was rather dichotomous of him to be monstrous sadist to everyone, yet he was a completely submissive towards Shu. His death scene was cringe worthy. It sounded sexual almost.

I think Shu "earning the power of self respect" and Segai going out in all his glory is what makes this episode work. It was by far one of the best in the series.

However, while this episode seems to try and justify this anime's messy plot all in one shot, it falls short of it's goal. It's a nice individual piece. But it still doesn't save this entire train wreck of a series.

Ayase seems to be taking the place of Hare as the sweet girl. God, I hope that doesn't mean she's going to die next. Ayase and Tsumugi are untouchable. If either of them die I'm giving the series a 1 final grade out of spite.

Overall, i just hope the remaining characters survive. Though I have a feeling Haruka and Arisa will die towards the end, especially Arisa. She's due to have her own atonement sacrifice to foolishly give Gai one more chance.

BlackKnight27 said:
Did they really have to play the "dying for everyone's sins" card? I knew it was coming, and I really was hoping the directors wouldn't resort to that in order to evoke an emotional response from the viewer.

And I guess the only reason why the Void Genome didn't kill Shu is because he's "The Chosen One." And will we ever find out how the Void Genome was able to regenerate Shu's arm and gave him the power to cure Souta? Probably not.

WOW, you make a great point. It's like they're actually going to rip off the Bible!! or maybe it's the Matrix with the "chosen one" theme. Though everyone says Matrix was a ripoff of the Bible also. Really, nothing about Guilty Crown feels original the story seems like it slapped together a million different ideas from other series and threw them together. Lately most anime seem to have this compulsion for copying ideas. So, can't really pin it just on Noitamina.

I wonder if Shu dies and then gets resurrected?

I can see it now, "The Church of Shu Ouma and the Funeral Parlor."

Yeah, actually it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to compare the last 3 episodes to Christ's death and resurrection.
- In episode 17, Shu is betrayed then "killed" in a metaphorical sense because he loses his King's Power.
- In episode 18, Shu is "dead" because he can't do anything.
- In episode 19, Shu is "resurrected" a few days later when he gets his arm and the King's Power back.

Plus, Shu can now apparently cure the sick (i.e. Souta) much like Christ could. Maybe now Shu will start walking on water and turning water into wine, lol.

No, the void genome has the same power as Gai and the Other Guy's Power of Kings/Void Genome. The one that absorbs everything is his void himself. That's why when his void was scanned there was no number because it was infinity.

I wonder if anyone notcied, but it seems his void is limited to creating one void at a time, or perhaps that was coincidence? or perhaps intended otherwise it would be op? Minute detail observation aside, I really like how Segai died in this ep. I know a lot of people says he deserved better or whatever but think about it from his point of view, best death ever anyone? Then we have Shu, cant say i didnt expect something like this but... This is one character I can say I've hated then empathized then liked then OH YEAH!!'d at the same time. Lets see if he wont pull us a Madoka, though I personally would've prefered a Lelouch :D, always something charming about a martyr (provided they actually have a cause) dont you think?

i thought this was a pretty sweet episode so this is the fate Shu has chosen huh i really do hope he dies saving everyone it's either that or Inori saves him in the end and his tracer void looks badass.

my heart goes out to Segai for dying a happy screwed up man and gumy for dying like a boss.

Oh and i want that Other Bois song now!~
