Elfen Lied is tied with FMA Brotherhood for my favorite series, and is in my opinion, a masterpiece. However, I actually liked the ending of the anime series. I doubt there'll be a season two continuation of the anime, but I do hope and there is definitely a possibility that it'll get remade to follow the manga more closely like FMA Brotherhood was.

There's only one way to make more Elfen lied anime and that's to start over.Original anime was great (my score - 9/10) but it had different story from it's manga which was still not finished at the point of airing anime. There are a lot of differences in plot, characters or properties of the Diclonii.
E.g. Lucy has much fewer vectors in the anime and her destructive power is far more powerful in the manga, at the point she can destroy buildings and sink an island, and there is greater variation in hair and eye color. In the manga Diclonius' hair color can be as diverse as a human being's ....etc (source wiki)

If they want to continue it's probably better to follow manga instead of creating their own after story which is far from manga.

On the other hand
This anime is expected to show a lot of scenes of brutal violence at point of torturing naked under aged girl and cutting off pieces of conscious living beings and also some naked scenes outside combat. That's why i doubt that it would be attractive enough for nowadays businessmen who tend to support mainly shows available for and asked by widest possible audience.
While this is adult only and not all of them have guts to watch this kind of show.
It's shame really. Someone should make another Elfen lied anime finally.

There can never be a season 2 because she is dead. What are they going to do focus on Nana? Even a 1 OVA special on life after Lucy's death may seem a bit hollow.

I don't think Lucy's dead: 1). We only saw a horn off Lucy's head get blown off. We didn't actually see her death. 2). Kohta sees a femaile silhouette on the front gate when he goes outside to see what Wonton is barking at. 3). The grandfather clock starts ticking . . . suggesting something broken or dead isn't, in fact, done.

I don't know how lucrative the anime series was in Japan or how popular it is in the rest of the world, but I defo think there's a lot of places to go with this story line. One of the things that kept me going was the constant tragedy, but, if there's a second season I don't think the same motivation can be used. It would be hard to have the same level of catharsis when you've already used an emotional atom bomb. There's not a lot to resolve in terms of psychological conflicts, it would be just utter destruction. But I think I'd like to see Lucy run amok across the planet.
I always thought that the music box turning off represented Lucy dying, and the clock turning on representing that Nyuu was alive. I can't remember exactly but I think she lost both of her horns. And when she lost her first one she only had 2 vectors left. So I assume when she lost the other horn she was basically a normal girl , because she wouldn't have any vectors or horns left. After thinking about that I thought the anime ending was good, but didn't need another season since I guess she would have just lived with them from then on. If they did make a new season they should just remake it and follow the manga all the way through.

I just finsihed watching this one and I must say..IT WAS GREAT!
Idk people always wanna talk down to Anime's which dont exactly follow the manga...Do you people think movies made always follow the manga/book or whatever!.. Things made on the page are not always so easy to transfer to the screen,I for one stand by "Anime's" over "Manga" anytime, manga cannot envelope you like sitting down and watching the film, hearing what they wanted the charecters to sound like or move like,to see they're tears fall in "real time" not page by page...
I for would love a second season of this, just like I'd like to see a "Rosario + Vampire capu 3,or a new season of "LineBarrel",maybe even more sakurei, but sadly...things things will most likely never happen:'[
If I were rich or smarter I might be able to get it and the others made lol!
Just keep praying, and if able...acting,calling,writing,requesting,anything to get us Anime fans more flix like this!!!

i recently completed elfen lied and seriously after watching the last episode, i searched the internet to find what happened after that. because they ended the story without telling everything. the manga has 107 chapters. i have not read the manga but i know it will be good. i wish they remake elfen lied entirely based on the manga and complete the story.

I hope they don't make a season 2. I didn't cry, I didn't laugh. For the most part, the plot was crap and the characters unbelievable.

It was entertaining, but there are way better animes.

Elfen Lied is a masterpiece and a season 2 cannot be allowed to happen considering the fact that such a season would probably try to follow the abomination that is the manga.

Really? when? shame they can't continue it they really left it open to another season which is disappointing... If what people are saying about it not staying true to the manga is true, then i guess the best option is remake, but that's basically no chance

the can't make a season 2, unless the strave quite a bit away from the manga, thats because at one point the manga and the anime go different ways and sutch have different endings (yes i've watches both the anime and readed the manga)

The people could at least add a few episodes to the anime. I mean come on they end it on a hook. Yhe clock rings and you see someone is at the gate. But you dont see who it is at the gate. And the directors last line was "i have big plans" well what kind of plans do you have sir. I would personally like to see this play out sometime. It was good in the manga but it would be nice to see it in action

I agree that it would be difficult to make another season as a continuation, but how about some back story. How Lucy got captured. What happened between her killing kouta's family and her escape.

In case you are wondering, anime has original ending, and only half of manga material was adapted. So yeah, quite a lot of things were omitted, changed and left unexplained.

Not that we'd get second season after 12 years, oh well :D

That is total bullcrap because it doesn't explain what happened to lucy because if that is Lucy's silhouette then does she have bulletholes everywhere or is she fine other than the other horn coming off? The world may never know until sometime in this summer.

Just read the manga if you're dissatisfied that deeply. The manga goes into further detail, but the ending is still quite ambiguous.

Elfen Lied 2 is in the trash where it belongs 8)

Seriously though, I couldn't even make it to the end so it wouldn't really affect me if there was a season 2 or not. It would satisfy a lot more people though if it did happen.

My view was always that because the anime was made before the manga finished, the ambiguous ending is an ending that exists separate to the manga. Due to the symbolism used I always kind of thought of it as being open to interpretation.
Where the manga does continue on, the anime leaves questions. Mainly. Why did the director have horns.. and who is behind the door?
In my mind the horns thing is just kinda like. Woah ok that's weird. Explains why he wanted her so bad though.
I used to be on the Elfen Lied Fansite. We discussed these points to death. My personal conclusion was that the person behind the door is the person (not diclonius) is Kaede. Not the personality she created or the monster that she was made to be, but the human being that is finally able to be forgiven and forgive herself.
I've seen all kinds of different interpretations. Which is cool. The manga is obviously a lot more direct with where the story goes.

It could get a reboot, eventually. Rebooting old series' with a more accurate adaption is pretty popular these days...
