THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Obvious boring episode that I really didn't want to watch. Everyone pouts around about Kenshin leaving. Oh, soooo sad. :/

Stupid Kaoru acting like she has a disease that's eating her from the inside out. I hate shit like this. Oh well, next episode better pick it up or I'm skipping some shit.

I completely disagree with everything you above said, simple reason. Without this episode, the next ones wouldn't be that great. It would be just like the previous ones where they smile and go after Kenshin. This way it's more sentimental, and you get more attached to their feelings... Not that any of you 2 will ever read my comment :).

I agree. Although, this episode was somewhat boring and annoying, I think it set the scene for the events in the next episodes.

I agree as well that the sentimental aspect is much more moving than the simple "let's go get Kenshin back!" But I think it's dumb they even think they should get Kenshin back. Kenshin has a responsibility, a goal he needs to finish and they should understand why he needs to finish it and have faith in his strength and that he'll return.

His "friends" really aren't very supportive of him unless he's doing what they think is right, not what he thinks is right, and that's very sad...

Disappointing episode after the previous 2, but I'm happy that at-least the art remained at the same high level set by the preceding episode.

Yeah, but isn't it worst to let a friend do something stupid, that will probably get him getting killed or hate himself? If your friend want to suicide himself, will you be supportive or will you try to convince him not to do so? Every medal have two sides.

Anyway, of course, this episode was melodramatic, but were you guys expecting something else after the last episode? Of course, they could have continued with Kenshin adventure, but that episode had to happen at one point or another.

And I know most of you were annoyed by Kaoru behavior and I can understand why. Though, she clearly showed sign of minor depression. Not eating food for two days isn't just being a whining baby, it's really a serious symptom. You can't just talk some sense into someone who is deeply depressed ; it's like saying to anxious person to calm down, it's stupid and pointless.
«Time is passing so quickly. Right now, I feel like complaining to Einstein. Whether time is slow or fast depends on perception. Relativity theory is so romantic. And so sad.»

I don't find this ep boring, at least not this time.

There should be some struggling moments when a big twist happened in your life (a.k.a. someone important seemingly disappeared from your life)
For Sano, it's the awareness of his lack of strength. And for Kaoru, it's the determination she needs to have.

Also their going after Kenshin will not only richen the plot but also become Kenshin's spiritual support in the future fights.

Looks like they're setting up quite an emotional story arc, can't wait to see where this goes.

It's so stupid that they're all going after him when they can't even protect themselves... His friends will make everything harder for him.

It’s quite amazing how many people missed the point of this at all.

They weren’t going to go after him so they could simply bring him back, they were going to go help him finish his goal so he could come back, they’re providing him support emotionally and mentally through the entire Kyoto arc to help him against Shishio. While also going through their own battles themselves where there characters begin to develop and progress, adding to their character arcs, leading further into how they develop throughout the arc, Kaoru matures her emotions for Kenshin, Sanosuke begins to understand himself and everyone around him better emotionally and finally begins to become more tolerant towards those with different views then him, and Yahiko begins to force himself to catch up to Kenshin and Sano so he doesn’t get left behind, all helped with the episode to give their future roles in the story more weight, and helped progress Kenshins own arc, about to continue his quest for atonement and to not give up on it, to continue fighting for those around him in order to atone, and to not kill anymore.

Kaoru doing what she did made sense, she’s young and naive, what happened shows she doesn’t fully understand Kenshin or herself emotionally, and it leads to her maturing and finally understanding herself, those around her, and especially Kenshin emotionally.

This episode was so annoying. Kenshin is a grown man with a heavy past, his goal in life is to atone for his sins and the best way he could do that is by defeating Shishio. Why does everyone think they need/can stop him? It's actually a hindrance to Kenshin if kaoru or yahiko go after him since they're super weak, obviously Shishio would annihilate them to antagonise Kenshin so why don't they use their brains and think before acting? Why do they instantly think Kenshin will just get himself killed? If he's given room to train and better himself (which he can't do with Kaoru around because she's a pain in the ass) he'll do just fine.

Some may say this what good friends and family do, I say it's what brainless people do lol I do really appreciate the way Megumi "cheered up" Kaoru though, by saying harsh truths that no one else would have the guts to say.

Soap opera mopey land and so drawn out. That goes for Kaoru along with Sano's weird kind of dumb fight with Saito. The end had some cool musick, but this episode was just way too drawn out.

I can't believe people are so negative about this episode. They've all basically become family. Kaoru was right to go through depression in response to losing a loved one. Going to Kyoto to try help/save Kenshin isn't a bad decision to make either.

Also Sano still keeps getting beat up lol

Kaoru going to Kyoto is just going to be her getting in the way of Kenshin and being a burden that needs protection at all times...

Dang... I used to watch this episode when I was a kid and didn't think too much of Kaoru's and everyone's emotions; I can understand now how crestfallen/depressed she must've felt and how angry or disappointed others have felt, respectively. It's going to be challenging trying to get Kenshin back. I can understand that Kaoru doesn't want Kenshin to be Batosai the Manslayer again, but her being in the way will only hinder him and possibly danger him and everyone close to him. But at the same time, I can see why her stopping Kenshin from becoming his old self will help him in the long run 'cause like Yahiko said, only Kaoru can do that.
