I know this discussion thread started years ago, and it may not be asked now considering the current situation in Tokyo Ghoul:re as of chapter 118. But I'll share my thoughts anyway:

Haise was honestly...a dream. He was peaceful, kind, and protective of his peers. Haise had such a happy mask. But part of him was running away or hiding from Ken Kaneki... Haise knew he had another life before being the ghoul investigator he was, but for a while, he refused to face it. Can a person truly be happy if they do not confront who they were or their past? I don't think so, therefore I don't think Haise was truly happy with his life. For example, when Haise met Touka in :re and cried...he felt that he met someone beautiful like her in his life before. :( Haise always had Kaneki attached to him somehow, even when he was not consciously thinking or trying to remember his former self.

I voted for Kaneki. I've always liked how complex Kaneki's character is. I like that when he has a goal ahead of him, he attempts to achieve it. I find that Kaneki has a strong attachment to his peers, but does not allow them to prevent him from going on his own journeys. You can say Kaneki tries to confront his reality, while Haise does not.

I Like Kaneki way more than Sasaki. He is more cool headed,Strong will,Calm and collected than Sasaki. He also have this badass aura that Sasaki doesn t have.Plus he have the experience both human and Ghouls. He can see point of view of both sides.

Plus I just like Kaneki personality way more than Sasaki. While Kaneki personality lean to Anti hero territory,while Sasaki is more to classic hero territory.

I also like Kaneki friends way better than Sasaki companions. All member of Anteiku crew remain loyal to him for years even after he is gone. And Most of them are not prejudce to either Humans and Ghouls example are Touka,Hinami and Yoshimura

I vote for Kaneki as he is very badass and looks like that one strong ass solo player. I have not read the new mangas yet but looking at the comments, Haise might be pretty awesome aswell.

I am more of a Sasaki fan
I always had some tension that he'd snap any moment and that made it much more interesting

Personally I like Kaneki better because of his badass character that still has emotions. His character also makes TG more interesting like when he goes crazy mad or even when he just fights whether he loses or not it's interesting. I feel like if he doesn't remember who he is and stays as Sasaki the show will not be as great as it was before with kaneki I feel like he is weak and won't be able to deal with the things kaneki dealed with. Example the mado punch he was to nice about it not saying he should of fought her but come on. I liked kaneki from season one and two even the innocent kaneki that was scared of little things and didn't like being a ghoul or eating human flesh I don't hate Sasaki but I prefer old kaneki.(btw his new friends are a bit annoying)

I hate how edgy-sadistic People bitching about Sasaki because he is not a sadistic badass , they like kaneki because he is strong ,sadistic and cruel .I like them both but Sasaki is great he actually care about both human and ghoul , he maybe weak but he have a kind heart and would protect his friends and even Some ghoul who he thinks they still deserve to live like the first taxi ghoul and Hinami , he may not be as cool or badass as kaneki but he is my favorite, he have a happy life , a great family and not as depressed and deranged as kaneki , i mean they both deserve this life .You guys just wants him to suffer so he could went to “rage mode” and looks really cool and badass when he fights . For me sasaki is the most balanced(half kaneki when he is a ghoul and half ken when he was a human)
