I hate recent DDR, because old DDR was much better.

I hate Guitar Hero, because it's a rip-off of Guitar Freaks, but with 2 more more buttons, and is way uglier and has music that I do not care for, but everyone hails it as being the most innovative game of all time and it seems to be loved by 99% of the US, gamer or non.

Those are my reasons. What are yours? I bet they aren't as good. Let me guess "Why don't people just dance or play the guitar FOR REAL!? It's POINTLESS!". Something like that, right? Well, it's the same reason people play FPS games instead of joining the military, and why they play Tetris instead of dropping blocks on the ground from the top of a small building.

Also known as Monster in a box, but I hate that handle...and it doesn't fit here.

For DDR the person needs lots of movement skills and timing which is a lot different from other games (ex: console games) which of course takes time master and your also dancing to a song that
you like.

I just don't find them fun, never have and never will. To me I don't find jumping on a mat or pad trying to match up arrows with whats on a screen fun at all. Nor do I find pushing colored buttons corresponding to what's on the screen fun either. Make the song you're doing original, or dance however you want to...not how a game tells you to.

I have very fond memories of Parappa the Rapper. Am the owner of two left feet so DDR isn't my thing. Haven't played Guitar Hero, but Rock Band is some of the most fun I've ever had, period.

Yep, it's all about the fun. Even though I'm not very good at these rhythm/party games, they're still a blast to play, or watch.

I don't like DDR because I'm sorta slow at it and therefore I suck. I also don't really like Guitar Hero since I don't really like non-Asian music anymore, most of the time. And I guess it's because I played Guitar Freaks a lot before Guitar Hero came out, the extra button and slightly different guitar design makes it a bit harder for me as well.

I like DDR I like GH 1,2&3 I'm not fanatical of them.

I can't dance in public so I don't disco, I can't play the guitar so I don't.
So I like doing this stuff, Badly, alone.

I like DDR, but the older ones, the newer ones seem to go mainstream and I really enjoy my licensed trance music in the series...

DDR MAX 2 is my fav. The licensed songs are just awesome.

Also, the Wii version has cover songs. I hate cover songs in my music games (Donkey Konga, Taiko Drum Master anyone?) if they are going to use licensed songs at least try to get the real thing or else spend time making original songs.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I don't like rock so I don't play them.

I'm a stupid person, so it makes sense. :-) I just wanted to see if people's opinions about it were the same as in the area where I live. Almost every person that I know loves DDR, Guitar Hero, and/or Rock Band (or something like them). I seem to be the only person of my group of friends and people I know that have a disliking to the games. It sometimes seems like I'm the only one that thinks this way...although I know there are others out there, but whatever.

Lock the thread, put it in spam, do whatever...

And how many people have you actually heard say the Guitar Hero games are innovative? While a fan of the first 2 Guitar Hero games (the rest suck), I've never found them innovative. Sorry but not "everyone" thinks the way you've accused them of thinking.

DDR and Guitar Hero are simply fun games, people. Not everyone claims them to be awesome, even if they like them. Get off your high horses.

True... I've never heard anyone describe Guitar Hero as "innovative" before... its fun, yes, but nothing new.

And why are you a fan of the first 2 games when there are only 4, and all are practically the exact same thing? o.O Just wondering.

Every magazine and website says they are innovative. I seem to recall it winning some stupid innovation awards a few years ago.

And yes, at least a few times I've spoken to people who have said something along the lines of "Guitar Hero is great! The controller is shaped like a guitar! What other game does that!?".

And the handful of people I've met that actively dislike the series dislike it for the stupid reason I mentioned earlier.

Hate DDR because of its simplicity. 4 buttons? f' that, I'd rather pilot a mech with my entire keyboard...

Guitar Hero is semi ok, I <3 80's rock music for sure, but I hate that new age emo/punk stuff. I might think of actually getting the game if they had some way to put your own songs in it, and the game randomly generate the notes based on the tempo of the song :D

8 buttons if you play doubles. But most DDR doubles charts are pretty awful. Pump it Up is a lot better in that respect (and has 10 buttons).

I think this is part of the reason some people really dislike DDR/Stepmania/Guitar Hero. When I first started playing Stepmania I sucked ass. However after practicing for a bit with some easier songs I got better and better. Now I'm able to AA 11-12 footers with only a little difficulty.

I've only played Guitar Hero a few times though and I still suck really badly at it xD Doesn't help that one of the first songs my friend made me play was Through the Fire and Flames on expert :<

It's not so much I hate the games but the music in itself. They are pretty fun but watching it be done by crazy people who get like everything just really kills self esteem. Whenever your at a party where these games are meant for theres always the person who can like nail every note in every single song or someone able to play without even looking at the screen.

See that's where you draw the line: Those people either have too much time on their hands or are naturally talented.

I have a friend who's loads better at Stepmania than me; he basically full comboes every single song through his own natural talent (and a little practice). Sometimes you just have to admit people are naturally good at things and just play for your own enjoyment.

And then there are people like me who have too much free time on their hands, but it doesn't do them a bit of good. Although these days I also suffer from lack of dedication...

The whole lack of buttons arguement can be said about many games, in fact all video games before the SNES/Genesis days...

It doesn't bother me, because that's what they are good at. I bet you have a series you can be perfect in and others you know cannot.

Except that the SNES/Genesis games were advanced for their time. DDR exists in a gaming world where we can do so much more than just time a hit to 1 of 4 (or 8) different arrows. Seems like something fun to do as a minigame in an MMO or something, but by itself? Hell I'd rather play Breakout or Tetris.

I like the trend of more physically interactive games. Help the fat kids burn a bit of energy. I don't see how people can promote generic controller use over the more physical games like DDR. I've seen some people really get in to Wii games, too, though most of them can be played by just sitting and wiggling your hand around, so they don't do a whole lot of good as the big dance games that actually get the fatties moving. I'd definitely encourage my kids to play DDR/SM over a traditional controller game.

SNES/Genesis games weren't advanced for their time. Back then arcade games were more technologically advanced.

Saying you're only hitting '1 of 4' buttons shows how little you know about the game, as there are also plenty of times when you have to hit 2 (and in the case of Pump it Up, even more than that).

The last part is super irrelevant.

Just a quick Youtube search for DDR freak. Just because you are supposed to follow the Arrows doesn't mean you have to use your feet and look like a robot(unless you are doing the robot) while doing it. :)

Simple game? Sure it is, but if it's so simple, ask yourself if you can do what they did on the vid too? :)

I notice people here (and I included) don't play a rhythm game based on its music. Guitar Hero should be all rock, but DDR tend to have much more variety in the newer games than before. Of course, variety =/= better sometimes. Taiko Drum Master doesn't feel right with all those cover songs in the US version ect.
