Am I allowed to upload anime onto YouTube or other sites as long as it isn't licensed?

Will I get into trouble somehow?

How is it though that other people don't get into trouble for loading anime episodes onto YouTube?

Is the worst that could happen is that they tell me to take the video down?

No, you aren't.

They get away simply by virtue of no one flagging their videos.

The worst that can happen is likely that you lose your account or something. But it is possible (not plausible, but possible) that you will be sued by the copyright holders, something that can result in a rather hefty fine - and even if not, an expensive lawyer cost.

Uploading manga that hasn't even been released yet and uploading an anime that has are 2 different things.

They always send a C&D before taking any action so it's fine (unless you do what that kid did) :)

No, they'll chop your balls off like the commies they are. I'm pretty sure copyright enforcers spend their whole day lurking youtube to find "infractions".

I wouldn't try it. YouTube is cracking down more and more on copyrighted material.

Even if it isn't licensed in the US, it still has copyright in Japan, so if one of those studios ever decided to sue, well...

Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it.

-John Lennon

Oh yes, how right he was.
The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The nameless is the beginning of heaven and Earth. The named is the mother of the ten thousand things.
I do not recall, Jesus ever saying "build churches, temples, and kill those who doesn't follow christianity..." nor he said "christianity is religion".

Very true spupapi. Too bad the people who thank that also happen to have money and power on their side...so there's nothing we can do about. For now.

I used to have 3 anime videos on my YT account - 3 tracks from a OST to be precise. After few weeks all have been blocked because one of the Japanese broadcasting company that spotted their songs.
And all I wanted is to promote their product - for free.

I think it's hilarious how one of the best advertisement tools I've ever seen is being destroyed. I've bought so much music that I learned about over youtube. I bought merchandise, movies, music, and all that kind of stuff, probably only because of the copyright infringement that used to go unchecked on youtube.
