Hiei's character changes so drastically as the series progresses. He is such a boring cliche villian in the beginning. When I was rewatching this I just realized he actual starts to monologe at one point. Good grief.

I really liked this episode. Some more good action, the villain gets a super form, Kurama returns to help, it was all good.

This reminds me of Dragon Ball back in the old days! The villain was pretty stupid, but Yasuke knows how to do it, punch it in the face when it starts talking too much!

So far it's very entertaining. It was an okay introductory mini-arc, but I'm looking forward to some serious developments.

I really hope Hiei and Kurama become more interesting, so far they're pretty boring for main characters.

Poor Koenma. But I can't help but laugh with those hundred spankings (esp since he is voiced by Luffy)..

Pretty much how I feel about it. Hiei was particularly generic.

If Botan can just come to the human world, why didn't she just do so in the first place and sort out the communication problems that yusuke was having while he was dead?

Anyway..

Nice. Schoolgirl Botan - the ruiner of potential relationships.

I suppose the character Hiei will change for the better eventually, as evident from this show's cover picture as well as the OP and the ED.

Exactly what I was thinking while rewatching. =P

It makes me wonder if Togashi didn't have him as a throwaway villain like Goki but changed is mind? Like, Kurama is really obvious as a more fleshed out char. Why didn't he add more depth to Hiei? Though some of the things he said during this fight have meaning later. Or at least why make him come off as such a cliche villain if he was supposed to have more depth. IDK. I'll just be glad that he does. I can't remember how it comes across in the manga.

Btw, maybe Botan had to have extra special permission to actually come down in human form. And part of the test was seeing how much Yuusuke could do on his own.

I've been really liking this show so far but this episode was really meh compared to the other ones. It followed the my friend's are in trouble so I'll become more powerful trope and I didn't like that.

Lol Keiko's jelly which is sorta kawaii glad she isn't going tsundere over it. I feel like I found out that the Jagan may have inspired the Sharingan and much more eye related techniques for future anime. Kurama is the man for taking the hit. Lol Ik he was gonna use the mirror to reflect the spirit gun.

"I'm fine, only a minor hole in my stomach" Kurama is so cool.

Hiei put up a great fight against Yusuke, but his overconfidence (and some luck in form of the mirror bouncing the spirit gun) lead to his defeat, I will need to see more of him to form an opinion, he's alright so far.

Loved the punishment for Koenma lol, he might be the son of the ruler of the spirit realm, but nothing changes the spanking heh.

Hiei was a bit too talkative and kept narrating what he would do.
Not that interesting of a fight.

Arc 1 was silly, touching, violently and emotionally satisfying by turns. I’ve been watching LotGH which is incredible but taxing, and this has been a wonderful palate cleanser. And the fights don’t drag on for an eternity either. Yum.

I was wondering as I've looked in a lot of places to no avail. does anyone know the dubbed voice actor for the little daemon that appears on hiei's shoulder near the beginning of the episode?

Ah, Yuusuke is getting more and more powerful, he dealt with the emo guy rather well. Good episode.

didn't liked hiei's typical shounen praises: "he gets stronger when trying to save someone" and the DBZ phrase: "he gets stronger as he get in more danger", i believe yusuke is more than typical shounen character that that...

that to say, seems next episode starting DBZ arc style xD

those last 3 episodes were pretty good, only i felt that this series have so much potential, hope it use it.

Yusuke risked everything in his attack, which luckily worked and he managed to defeat Hiei.
Good to see Kurama and Yusuke kind of built a friendship.

I didn't remember Hiei being this tiring to deal with, is like he just went on and on and on and on talking and was unable to just summarized it a little bit.

The scenes with Keiko, Yuusuke and Botan at the school were funny.

I didn't know Botan could get messages telepathically lol and of course the power of friendship is a power up but it kind of make sense for Yuusuke since that's the whole point he got back from dead.

Yusuke a genius and a lucky fool. Considering that he only got a 12 on his math test, I'm surprised he remembered the lesson about mirrors reflecting light. Guess Yusuke isn't as dumb as he appears...

I was worried about this fight because I didn't want Heie to be beaten lamely since he would obviously become a comrade eventually. I'm glad his defeat was just caused by mere imprudence.

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

For an early fight in an old shounen series the battle against Hiei is actually pretty decent. Nothing much to drag out since neither of them have much power at this point either.

And man, spanking is such a bizarre artifact of the past. Its insane that people used to just smack kids on the ass when they were mad and that that was a step down from just beating them normally.

The eyes on Hiei's body looked sooo creepy. Yusuke got so lucky with the light bouncing back at just the right angle.
