Evangelion Cowboy Bebop Utena Yu Yu Hakusho Slam Dunk Rurouni Kenshin Hunter X Galactic Heroes Akira Lain Gundam Macross Dragon Ball Z..etc. Today's: Death Note Code Geass Gurren Lagann Shakugan no Shana Elfen Lied Soul Eater Naruto Bleach Hitman Reborn Gintama Ghost in the shell Fullmetal Alchemist..etc Which time do you think that anime are better? |

galactic heroes started in the 80's other than that, i dont like the 90's style of artstyle. Mainly cel animation. Sure some shows were good, but for the most part they all looked the same. Most character styles looked alot like Makoto Shinkai or Katsuhiro Otomo. and you forgot Ghost in the Shell... |

Disagree, all of my favorites have come out within this decade. Not saying the 90s didn't have good shows, of course. Most of those 90s shows I couldn't care less about, with the exception of Evangelion and DBZ (and even that's debatable because Kenshin has the place in my heart for needlessly filler'd anime). |

and the 80's were better than the 90's, as well as the 70's better than the 80's.. Do you even care to even attempt to describe as to why the 90's are better than today's Anime or are you just going to leave it the way that it is while someone is just going to sit there, read, not care, and move on? As well as comparing other Anime's than mainstream at their respective times or are you going to add others as well? Honestly I haven't really seen that many 90's Anime's that I'm aware of, but they aren't that bad. The only thing that seems to be lacking at least to me is the artwork at the time, but then again things evolve throughout time, and I'm not saying that the artwork during that decade was horrible or not, plus there's also voice acting, but voice acting can be horrible for any generation. I do have favorites from the 90's, but there are a lot of Anime's that I've seen that have come from 2000+ that I've really liked or would consider my favorites that I've seen. As someone said, Anime still seems the same as it was back then, the only real difference that there is, is the artwork/better graphics and that's about it. Btw Evangellion bored the crap out of me, but then again its one of the few reasons as to why I don't really take Anime suggestions from certain friends since most of them time I won't have the same view on the show as they did. I have a feeling that I've actually fallen asleep while watching it a few times, and inb4 someone comes up with the pathetic excuse of that I watch mainly today's Anime's over older one's. Each decade has their horrible and amazing Anime's, but the simple fact is, that this all dwindles down to opinions and people trying to tell others as to why such and such is better than such and such. Other than that your going to get what some people call "nostalgia-fags" (look it up) and say that any old Anime no matter what is better than current Anime and vise-versa. People are going to keep rinsing, washing, and repeating for decades to come until people don't care about Anime anymore. Plus your response isn't really that much thought provoking on either side..Somehow this is reminding me of the Video Game Console War bullshit.. |

I actually like the new stuff better, and a lot of my favorites are from the 2000's on (FLCL is the oldest of my favorites). But this might be because I just started really paying attention to anime more then I ever have before. |

I like both. They are definitely different, but I don't find myself liking one any less than the other. I tend to like the animation and art style better nowadays, but there are things I like about the old school series that you don't find in today's shows. My shelf has anime dvds spanning from the 80's to the present. :) And you forgot Escaflowne for 90's series. :P |

Lots of cherry picking going on here too. You're looking across 2 decades and only remembering the best of the best. There are a few series and movies that have come out in the past decade that I believe could match the items on your list. Baccano! FLCL Planetes Spirited Away ect. Not going for a complete list, but the point is that there are some great series from the year 200 onward. You just have to look a bit without the nostalgia goggles. |

Higurashi (series) Clannad (series) Honey and Clover (series) Spice and Wolf (sereis) Gunslinger Girl Kino's Journey Seirei no Moribito Aria (series) I watch 80's, 90's growing up, but my favorites are above... all 2000's. Though i do admit they make better shonen back in the days, I really enjoyed Yu yu Hakusho and Slam Dunk. I disagree with ya, I prefer 2000's anime. There's so much more I haven't watch that is said to be great. |

Kenshin might be a good choice, but that's including the movies and excluding the third season crap-storm nobody should even watch. Still, I LOVES me some Kenshin ^_^. |

I haven't watched many 90's anime in comparison to today's, but generally I prefer the 90's. More original storyline, better characters (strong/independent, esp the girls) and more substance overall. I really like Slam Dunk and Outlaw Star- both 90's. Cowboy Bebop was pretty good as well. |

For the most part I prefer 90s anime to 00s anime but I don't think there's an easy way to explain why. I just prefer the way the characters were drawn back then I guess. Maybe I just like cels more. I also don't like the 00s' focus on romance/comedy, I generally prefer drama and sci-fi which was the majority in the 90s it seems. Even most of the 00s scarce drama and sci-fi series can't resist squeezing in slice-of-life/harem/comedy elements... |

I got into anime in the 2000s, so I have to say that I like those more. The only ones I really like from the 90s are Rurouni Kenshin and Cowboy Bebop. I really just don't like the quality and the art style of the 90s and before that as well. The story doesn't make up for it for me if I can't force myself to watch it because of the way it looks. |

I'd obviously take most of my picks from the 70s to the 90s. First of all, the 00's have only been going on for ten years, so there's obviously fewer titles to choose from, and recently, season after season have produced mainly trite poop as far as I am concerned. Even the good ones, like, say, Higashi no Eden, have been rather bleh. It's not helping that I tend to see terrible art design in today's anime, whether it's moeblobs and saucer eyed aliens or ridiculously effeminate noodlepeople. And then you have the emphasis on flashy melodrama, fanservice and spamming of peripheral persuasion effects. Obviously there's still the occasional fantastic title like GitS SAC, but in overall I'm seeing more shit coming out lately compared to the past. But then again, that might very well be due to heuristics like the Serial position effect. |

I don't like the contemporary anime trends with lolis, mechas, fanservice and cliche-ridden trainwreck stories. A few cliches don't hurt, but when it goes past the point of saturation it really gets on my nerves, like when every anime needs 1 of each stupid stereotypical character. Despite this, all the good shows I've found so far have been post 2000. It's rare to find anime that avoids all the pitfalls, but they do exist. Examples would be Mushishi and Gunslinger Girl. |

I do not really care when the anime came out. I have some favorites from the 80s,90 and 2000s. Animation style is merely just eye candy and with out the story that appeals to me isn't worth watching. I would rather watching something that has the same styles of animation as Shin Chan, Dead Leave or Momotaro - Umi no Shinpei with a story that appeals to me than something with a similar animation style to Cowboy Bebop(Which I did love), Malice Doll(haven't seen, Apple Seed(2004)(which I also enjoyed watching) with a bad story. |
