This looks like a promising new series. People dying..an evident motif of Gundam.

This type of story was Cliche 10-20 years ago maybe, now its pretty unique in this sea of over-complication and moe.

This stuff is RETRO. Retro is good. We need more retro.

Where you disappointed the other 30 times this has happened in a Gundam related media?

It's like watching Transformers and going "aw Jeez more transforming robots can't they do anything new!?"

Atleast this one was alittle different this time, it was actually made for him, he didn't kinda steal it.

epic animation i just watched the movies of gundam and f91
(and played robot taisen 3 but the history is in jap :S only the commands are in eng)
but i am guessing many stuff just by having played gundam battle assault 2 on the ps1
since everyone call the girl hime-sama, shes a princess and the fourth tragedy i tought it was something that was goint to happen to her

btw Kshatriya ms is an upgraded quin manta?(ok i just readed that its piloted by puru two and that marida is another puru)

what are those normal ms?
i mean
the greens(not the zaku lol)
the blues look to be a mass ver of RGZ
and the ones with tracks are guntanks?

besides all my mecha questions
i liked the ep, has anyone noticed it being similiar in just a few things to the 1st ep of seed?
space colony attacked and the 1st activation of the gundam is it rising from flames xD

those newtypes have some badass moves xD and i agree they act REALLY strange(f91 made me realize this)

Actually it's more like the first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam, and like pretty much every Gundam after that.

The Green Mechs are RGM-89 Jeagan, they are Feddy grunt mechs
The Blue ones are RGZ-95 ReZEL they are specialized RGZ's
and the Tanks are Lotos they are the predecessor to the Guntank

Yes he's a NewType only new types can use the PsycoFrame, the only other gundam that used the Psycoframe is Amuro's Nu Gundam, but it was in beta then. But the Unicorn uses a new system as well call the NT-D (Newtype Drive) which that was the transformation. The pink armor underneath the white armor is the Psycoframe.

Actually, Mahq says that the Loto was the predecessor for the F-50D Guntank R-44.

Judging by the time period as well, it seems more likely that the Loto is the successor to the original (and probably the mass produced version) of the Guntank, but outfitted and painted for Lodo Bell's mission use.

First post. I'd like to talk about reputation in Japan. Gundam UC released at only 8 theaters for 2 weeks in Japan. Gundam UC is making sensation in a way. Because it is far and away beyond our expectations. Reputation spread through Twitter and Blogs every day. Sales of Blue-ray disk get a No.1 ranking (including all categories) at Amazon.jp in March so far. Download through PS3 made a new record as 1st business day. Even some young Japanese anime fans who don't know Universal Century series found new excitement with Unicorn.

Old Gundam fans came back to anime and theater. They were very surprised and impressed with its quality. Some of them were not able to stop tears. They shout,"This is Gundam. Our Gundam finally came back!" Loyalty to UC history, overwhelming pictures, old familiar character, beautiful sound,,,etc Fan's dream came true. When I watched the first battle scene, my hands trembled with excitement. Theater is packed with many Ojisan(middle-aged man). I don't like Ojisan because they smell a little bit. But I am Ojisan, too. Very sad.

First Gundam was televised 31 years ago. College students who watched it at that time are over 50 now. Main fans of Universal Century are at age of 35-45. So they have been away from anime aside from ardent anime fans. Gundam UC probably brings back nostalgia and passion for us. Some of young anime fans feels that character(mecha) design of Unicorn is old. But this design unquestionably dominated the anime world in Golden Era(1980s-90s). First Gundam and first Macross were made from this design.

I think that discerning foreign anime fans notice that it is impossible to bring this quality on TV series. Gundam UC is a challenging work because it eliminates big ad agency and TV station. They often skim profit and interfere in contents. So this is one of the reasons for recent low-quality anime. Small group of veteran creators is making Unicorn with enormous time and effort. Furuhashi(director) is very professional. He is famous for OVA of Rurouni Kenshin (Title:trust and betrayal).
So they can make 2 OVAs a year at best. But if Gundam UC succeed on business, it means that Anime will get a new business model. I hope that Gundam UC make us more excited until the last minute and succeed on business not only for Gundam but also for anime's future.

It did confuse me, but it does seem appropriate since Unicorn deals more closely with the birth of the Universal Century itself. The other series focus mainly on the conflict between political powers and the involvement of Newtypes in these battles, but Unicorn takes off from that and instead roots itself into the mysteries of the era itself.

The theme of beings capable of higher forms of communication and understand is taken further, and Laplace's box remains as the central plot element of the series, while in the other TV series, the plots mainly revolve around a war.

For obvious reasons, I find that Unicorn is really entertaining. The animation is superb although they opt for retro-style character design. The soundtrack is also nice, with a touch of rock and instrumental. Overall, I like this Gundam series very much. I'm very tempted to read the manga but I'm scared that it might spoil some epic moments when they are revealed in the anime. I can hardly wait for August!

^^I think it makes no difference, since the BR rips use the official subtitles anyway. I personally went for the BSS 1080p encode.

On topic: In the final scene during the Unicorn's NT-D transformation, the beams from the Kshatriya's funnels are deflected around the Unicorn in a sphere-like barrier. My initial impression was that it was the Unicorn's I-Field generator at work, but I have a vague memory of reading somewhere that the Unicorn's I-Field generator was mounted on its shield, which it clearly does not possess.

My question is: What's happening? Is my information correct?

And please don't say he's manipulating the funnels, because no matter what he can do with the funnels themselves he can't possibly bend the beams with his mind.

Your right the I field generator is only in it's shield, The only thing I can possibly think of is, The NT-D can "hack/take control of" other Psycommu systems, maybe in that instant the Unicorn hacked her funnels and changed the beams in some way? Or maybe it was a electromagnetic discharge made by the energy release of the psycoframe luminescence phenomenon?

Well, the beams themselves shouldn't be bent if he jacks into the funnels; they're discharged and accelerated Minovsky Particles (henceforth MP), and by no means can the funnels exert control over them.

The transformation, on the other hand, could have an effect. There's no details on the psycoframe luminescence given off by the Unicorn in NT-D, but if the performance of the unit rises it would stand to reason that the output of the generator must rise to match, and thus release more MP. Perhaps these MP are, by chance, or because of sheer density of particle concentration, somehow forming themselves into a protective I-field lattice (and therefore serving as an I-field independent of a generator).

Wikipedia mentions the possibility of Z's biosensor granting Kamille the ability to exert some form of MP manipulation, so that, too, may be what is happening.

But these theories do raise a question: Why bother with an I-field generator at all if it could do this? XD

Unless, of course, the I-field is functional in Unicorn mode, which would make plenty of sense, but from my (rather poor) memory, my source also mentioned that it only activates upon the NT-D transformation.

Yea the I-Field on the shield is only available in destroy mode. Maybe the Unicorn's body it self can generate it's own I-Field, but the Shield it nothing more then a I-Field Amplifier, instead of a I-Field generator. The shield may just make the already existing I-Field of the Unicorn stronger.

Here, I have tried watching this finally.

Oh god, it was even more terrible than i expected.

Its like on what would happen if Twilight ___th movie was a teen-soap-opera remake of Interview With Vampire.

Action and stuff going pew pew would have been nice if not for mediocre plot and constant "this is uc, watch eeet" stuff blown into my face.

If anything,a fter OVA1, my opinion stands - Unicorn is mediocre fanfic trying to cash in onto the whole UC fanbase.

UC ended with TurnA Gundam. Until tomino himself decides to do something in UC, UC will stay dead.

Turn A didn't take place during UC, it takes place during Correct Century. The founding of UC is really important in Unicorn and the plot will most likely thicken and get better in later episodes. Tomino will never work on Gundam again so its too bad for you, go back to watching Gundam 00.

So after all these years we finally get something from the time-line between Gundam ZZ and Victory Gundam other than the botched F91 series which became a film, and it's definitely awesome. They've finally given the Gundam neutral colours (OK it glows red but at least that isn't the paint job) like it was meant to from the start.

I'm sure that Miss 'Audrey Burne' is in fact Minerva Zabi too.
