It's truly very sad to see a country full of censorship. My condolences, Russians, maybe one day things will get better.

Shit...
in Russia thay have plenty of companys that
are arrenged by anime studios in making subs and dubs to anime series
also many authors translate and draw their own manga
Shit thay even have Olympic Djudo-team...
Fuck their presiden is 6gr Judoka with respect all over Japan
What the fuck you can want from a country as Otaku,
your presiden is a anime-character at least...
There are some small issue with Japan...
Like Kunashir and ShikotanN
but it is family buisness - Just between Samurays\

I respect Russia for being based though this is a simple case of use a vpn. Looks like japanese media is being further restricted outside Japan which is nothing new. Steam recently banned some fanservice games, and pixiv added more countries to their restricted mode which btw even the USA is on that list.

Freedom is a cute little myth.

Not surprised. I mean South Korea (not-so-ironic nickname, the Confucian Taliban, also has a very heavy militarized culture worse than China) has been banning a lot of websites since the mid 2000s. Nothing new. People around the world manage to use VPNs or short-term domestic server websites to get their "personal physical satisfactions".

Quiet easy nowadays for russia to block western websites with the ""propagating non traditional sexual preferences"". Lets make every website our (insert some: alphabet >shit<) safespace to bann the internet from russia (Шучу, ребята).

Freedom, a very misleading idea with varied definitions depending on people with their own unique cultural and family upbringings.

As my old aunt said who used to serve as a deputy of a deputy for a province-level combined legislative and administrative advisory organ as a non-CPC member said to her nieces (including me) and nephews, summarizing her long speech into a single sentence like this.

Nobody wants to pay attention about your own ideas of freedom that only you understand, so find a sustainable middle ground in your life and surroundings.

The power of yuri was too much for them. They had to detain it quickly before anymore of their citizens find it and become fellow yuri worshipers. This war isn't over as it's only a temporary solution.

Really fuckiing ironic they banned it for "LGBT extremism" when the userbase of the site is incredibly transphobic and I can't even exist on this site without having people tell me to commit suicide.
This post is brought to you by your local transfem gamer goblin. Will not tolerate bigotry and will fight against "anti-woke" sentiment to make the anime community a safer place.

Russian authorities have banned the world’s largest anime and manga platform MyAnimeList over “extremist” LGBTQ+ content, state media reported Tuesday.
I don't remember MAL promoting any such content. In fact MAL mods even lock down any threads related to LGBT.

Did they only check threads where Yuri Crusader was posting huge ass yuri images /s

I'm that Russian Siberian lately, hello everyone. And I still find it weird because anyways 99% of people here don't speak English. Eventually, you know, people don't lose anything after mal got banned. And I just go with vpn, as always🤷.

When I get chipped in the future, I'll pay extra to install VPN right away...

Actually, can you install VPN for someone who still hasn't got out of their mom's uterus? Really curious about that.

On a serious note, they have a similar site called Shikimori over here, so I guess they don't need MAL anyway. That being said, I'm never getting anywhere near that thing, ugh...

You've probably figured it out already, but adding any BL/GL material to the database automatically triggers that condition. So, yeah...

Who, cares. People that I work with (who in the majority are 20-35+) don't even watch Anime, and don't even like Counter-Strike.

Instead, they got me into Ready Or Not game. This is pretty much what's popular, at least in this field of work (although their modders got rid of all the American things and replaced them with everything Russian, including professionally done voice-over dubs, a bunch of anime girl wall posters, stickers, etc).

Good stuff never gets censored when it's done the right way.

isn’t this a site with a lot of transphobes? Really though, that sucks for Russia. Being queer isn’t a choice, it’s something you’re legitimately born as and can’t control. I should know, I’m lgbtq+ myself. I’m sure things will get better someday

Also, if you’re trans, gay, lesbian, ace, nb, anything like that seeing this, you’re strong and valid, keep going!

…I mean, All Quiet On The Western Front was censored in Nazi Germany, and virtually all books were banned in Maoist China including Dostoevsky, and Nietzsche was apparently banned in the USSR.

Self-censorship overall is antithetical to quality. You cannot say a work keeps its qualities if either its ideas or delivery is affected by censorship. You can’t cut a random 5 minutes from a film and not expect it to impact quality in some way, nor does turning those five minutes into something more subtle or subversive a negligible action either.

@PeripheralVision It's up to each country's culture.

LGBT should never be globalized (just like many other current-gen liberal values); it's up to each individual and should never be on a national scale of things, let alone a priority (like in some countries).
