The drama is just not interesting - caricature villains, another betrayal plot point and the tonal clash. It tries to be "serious" and within the next minute, "will you marry me?".
I don't hate the anime but I definitely can't take it seriously.

Anime and caricature villains - name more iconic duo.
It actually was a very decent episode until this nonsense appeared.
I am ready to drop it.

ep summary the screenwriter is trying to get a message across but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and interpret this as world building and the rest were cartoonish scenes that made me laugh.

@IzanaSolos Yes, the moment it was "revealed" that the loli betrayed the group, I thought: this is getting repetitive. Since it's an original anime, I was expecting a stilted and artificial narrative, but this episode surpassed itself in that regard.

At least I had the pleasure of listening to a new song by Hana Hope. I didn't like the parts in English too much, but I can't deny that it fits the anime.

I like the old school adventure anime feel so much, but I'm definitely in the crowd bothered by the mustache twirling villains. It already hurt episode 1, but things happen when you need to introduce a setting. At this point it's actively fighting against otherwise interesting world building. Bleh, I don't want to give up on this with how weak the rest of the fall season is looking so far, but I sure hope this slows down and drops the caricatures.

I like it overall, but why both villains have to be the same I don't really get. I like a cartonishly evil villain, but not all the time.

But I'm interested in why she asks to marry him and not do that new thing they have going on, so she probably was programmed by Towa to marry him or something along those lines.

Am I the only one who is getting very mixed signals from Yuugare,dk she just ain't looking trustworthy yet...

Very predictable stuff mainly, romance is very forced unlike with Towasa. Adventure in semi apocalypse setting is fine ig. But nothing impressive.

Roswall ass villain was good tho..

i thought the little girl at the village was the one on the cover photo that joins the adventure crew. turn out it's different girl.
she might be an android too judjing by that barcode she got on her back.(welp she was a slave)

so yuugure is 150+ years old. safe to assume 150 years ago towasas work went down south, and yuugure had to fled. but why do all those androids have towasas face/body? and if all of them were made by towasa why did some of them join OWENS thing.

there's are sooo many questions man. we ain't gonna learn shit in this 12 episodes.

also she did an unbeliveble job by implementing all the bodily funcitons of a human to them android. and a near indefinite power? in that ark reactor like thing. she's the iron man in this world. lol

i mean even a fusion reactor of that size wont last 150 years by the actions she's performing. (may be it will, i dont wanna calculate).

then came a fkin clown or a drag shit and ruined my whole mood.

this got two villains shown up so far and both of them were typical rage bait ass villains. hope they do better later

Not a fan of the queer-coded edgy villlain but the rest was good. I thought the whole book burning scene was kinda stupid tho.

Said, that, this looks SO good. The designs are amazing, and in general terms the use of colors, etc. Very good chocies on that area.

The ending song was really beautiful!

While episode 2 is slightly weaker than ep 1, I am very curious about the 12 towasa androids in this story. The villain is not really that bad I think the first 3 episodes are pretty much giving us a sense of what is going on with the world 200 years later so Im all for it, hopefully the villains are not repetitive and owel is acc scary. I know there is gonna be a fight between yuugure and yoiyami.

@uselessDM No, no, maybe, but your question was already answered in episode one, when the scientist's AI says she would also like to fall in love, meaning she's projecting her creator's, whom she's had contact with, feelings about love. (This is just theory)

@Ronninn Well, when I added this series to my to-watch list, I realized I'd abandoned all the anime I'd tried to watch from this studio. However, it wasn't because of the animation, but rather the story.

More worldbuilding, but this time there's a mystery that serves as a goal. This is pretty entertaining so far. Plus points for me being an original anime.

It's a post-apocalyptic 1984: we got the control of information and even the burning of books. What a great way to keep things mysterious. You want answers? You can't have them! Unless you pay a premium subscription fee or something like that.

Ok so I want Amoru to be saved too, but what's Akira's dumbass gonna do? Bro should've taken Yuugure's offer of marrying her in return of saving Amoru. Would've been a win-win situation, but unfortunately Akira fears robot pussy.

Anyway, Akira naturally wants to get to the bottom of this and find out what happened to his world and to Towasa, and why tf there are several hot and powerful android versions of her roaming about. There just doesn't seem much sense of urgency. Sure there isn't much he can really do but walk around to the next destination where he might find a clue, but it seems like he's ready at any point to give up the search for answers and just enjoy a laid-back life (if possible) in this new world with it's new societies. Like it'd be more real perhaps if he maybe showed more of a panicked expression sometimes. But whatever, this is just a very minor nitpick.

Since they all have Towas face there must be some connection at least. I assume that Yugure was apart of their group at some point.

They seem to have better morals than the OWEL guys at least, but I would think that's because they come from the past, so they share their moral code with people like Towa or Akira and not the "modern day" characters. The same reason I think she says marriage, because when she was made marriage was still the normal thing to do.

the potential this anime have is above all of the expectations

starting the ep by seeing yuugure really wants to get married with akira even tho he doesn't want to, then they got out of the village they were in, they went to the place he woke up in and they didn't find anything cuz it was dark and then 2 strange androids came to find both of them but nothing special happened but that they were strong like yuugure

they change the plan to go to Tokyo where he was living b4r the horrific thing happened to him, but the way is too long and has a lot of enemies along the way, they meet a girl named amoru who betrayed them to get her parents books that they seized cuz it was forbidden but like they did with the village they don't do anything they said, they betray the betrayal u did

and the ep ends with akira want to get back to help amoru while yuugure saying I'm not coming back but akira says to her " u r really an android ", and i see those words too much

It is so well produced, looks like has a lot of heart put into it and a potential to be great and very memorable.

And yet, I can't shake that uneasy feeling that in the end bad writing and poor character development will put this title firmly into "mid and forgettable" tier, there are just too many signs that point on that...

I was initially fascinated by this anime's trailer and by the Sci-fi tag. The S0-1 episode clearly had something else in mind. I kinda liked S2 more than the previous two, as it showed more of their world.

Now to this current era, we see
- ruins and wind turbines which have not fully deteriorated - Steel beams and composite polymers can take >500 years to rust fully.
- Tractors with diesel engines + ships + no solar panels seen - seems oil rigs are still operational and perhaps supplied by OWEL.
- Town centres and roads are in proper condition, but not used much - less population?

1. OWEL and the Androids : clearly possesses tech that the citizens don't possess. However only the Androids seems to have high tech, while OWEL officers still carry a inferior tech, perhaps OWEL couldn't reverse-engineer the Androids hardware.

2. Citizens : treated like a feudal society, left to their weird customs.
(I didn't like how Akira acts surprised at their customs while he was to smash his stepsis, the audacity)

I think this isn't post-apocalyptic but something perhaps 200-300 years far away, and maybe OWEL is an military dictatorship, trying to fix back whatever our girl Towasa unleashed onto the world with limited resources.

But then again, they haven't shown us much of how life was during the flashback era.

Towasa left a message for Akira 200 years ago, and Yugure said she’s been around for about 150 years, which basically hints that Towasa is already dead. Still, there’s a lot we don’t know yet since Yugure clearly knows more than she’s letting on, especially about Akira and Towasa. That makes it pretty clear she’s actually the same robot that used to help Towasa in the past.
Anyway, I’m enjoying this show way more than I expected. It really feels like P.A. Works put a lot of effort into the story and everything else, so I’m definitely looking forward to following it till the end.
One thing I feel is really underappreciated is the character design they’re so gorgeous I keep pausing the episode just to look at them.

This show has some potential, but the flaws are becoming more evident with each episode. The MC has been useless so far and is now doing the typical anime thing of saving a girl that betrayed him, they heavily overplay the joke of Yugure wanting to marry him, and new girl Amoru has been pretty dumb so far too trusting the villains and will likely just end up as the fanservice character. The villains are all caricatures so far too and it makes no sense why people trust them at all when they act like this. Its annoying as episodes 0 and 1 setup some good mysteries, I like the sci-fi and Orwellian post apocalyptic society, but I feel like its just going to end up a mid series with typical anime tropes.

I know my memory isn’t the best, especially with stuff this forgettable, but correct me if I’m wrong: didn’t the last episode have this EXACT same plot?

At least the ED gave me something worth talking about. And maybe it’s just recency bias, but honestly, that might be my favorite ED of the season. The chorus alone, both visually and musically, hit all the right spots.
@IzanaSolos No, it was the same plot for the last 5 minutes excluding the slavery stuff and small development between Yuugure and Akira. The reason they set it up like this was so they could put akira in a tough position which would allow yuugure to break her operating principles and rescue Amoru which could further enhance her humanity showing she too also cares abt people

Akira has the loyalty and the respect of a great hero even when the situation gives some hustle to him! I know Yuugure is gonna save both Akira and Amoru but the fact that she didn't do it immediately is pretty bad!
@TomuKun Its not that she couldn't it pretty much goes against her operating principles where she just can't understand why she should save some1 who just betrayed even if it was for a selfish reason. She could have rescued akira at any moment then. She was also aware that amoru was a letogonian/slave which is also why she kind of anticipated the trap.. If Yuugure can detect a samurai miles from miles away she could have easily detected the trap which she pretty much did. Remeber, Yuugure is pretty much invincible up to this pt unless she fights the samurai android.

Naaa, lets not go down this whole cliché route, I was pretty pleased with the show previously, but this episode 2 just so many things I'm displeased with.

1. What you mean you want to go find your fiance, that by all logical reasoning should be dead, there was literally nothing to hint she'll still be alive, if he had said he wanted to go find out what happened to her it would have been understandable.

2. This whole idealistic MC really gets on my nerve, sure its the writers freedom, but when characters make stupid choices and the only thing that saves em is plot armor, its just so insufferable.

The MC (Akira) was a full adult, a scientist before he was put into cryo sleep or whatever, why his he acting like an ignorant teen.

3. I couldn't care for Amoru at the moment, she could have been written off this episode and next episode I'd have forgotten about her.

4. Akira already being so obnoxious is already vexing, now the hypocrisy at the end. I'm with yuugure on this, she (Amoru) tricked us, you (Akira) could have died, but whoop whoop she told you a flimsy story about writing story books and thats enough for you to ignore all. You (Akira) claimed they just were just using her (Amoru), she (Amoru) was just using us too to get what she wanted.
You (Akira) is just using Yuugure for your own goal, she said she wanted to marry you (for reasons unknown at this point) you don't wanna, just dismiss her completely but no, you invited her to travel with you (because off course she'd say yes), now the person that set us up, you want me to go save em, even though I'm against it because you want to.
You running to go save em when you can't do shit....

Personally I'd have loved it, if the show got a little darker and Akira gets thought a valuable lesson in reality, but of course from the theme song I can tell Amoru will be joining them, so all will be sunshine, rainbow and kisses next episode

Ugh, it pains me a bit to say and reach such a conclusion, but probably going to soft drop this (I say "soft drop" because I never formally added it to my watchlist to begin with as I usually wait these days and put most seasonals on a tentative mental probationary period) despite it being one of the series I most anticipated and had the most hope for going into the season based on the synopsis, genres, and being a P.A. Works original, as well as having a promising and enticing first episode and one of the better first episodes of the season and probably of the year in general (I'm referring to the episode which is labeled as episode 0 and decidedly not the subsequent episode labeled episode 1, which is actually the second episode, regardless of whatever reason for which they chose to do this).

The main reasons though are twofold. One is that I find the main character - well he's a bland main character which doesn't spark interest but I wouldn't be pushed much to drop it just for that as that applies to mains in a lot of series. It would be fine if he were just bland and inoffensive. But I find his naive vague sense of justice and self-righteousness incredibly irritating and obnoxious; nauseating even. He has absolutely no clue whatsoever how anything in this world works or why it is the way that it is, the whys, wheres, whens, hows, etc. and yet multiple times in this episode (and I can tell already it's going to be a recurring phenomenon and theme), he puts himself in needless danger (or is prevented from doing so by the android or expects the android to automatically bail him out) with zero real regard or awareness just because "It doesn't feel right!" and "I feel bad" and similar mindless childish silliness.

I really can't sympathize at all with characters like this and find them just more annoying and exhausting to watch after a point rather than feeling a sense of being invited to get invested in their stories. The way he said one of his last lines of the episode in this episode in that over-emotional whiny tone to Yuugure after she agreed to help save the young girl in return for him agreeing to the marriage, snapping back about "You really are an android, aren't you?" or something to that effect. Oh yeah, because God forbid something be transactional and someone ask for something they want in exchange for doing something for you. Unheard of. Blasphemy. How outrageous and immoral. Better become all righteous and indignant about it. This guy is a tool and I've seen too many of them that their type rubs me the wrong way very quickly.

And the other main reason is that the villains are all past over the top and exaggerated and into more parody or comedic territory which makes me wonder if the series in whole or in part is intended to be more of a comedy and parody of something, but the feel in much of the rest of it and the way it's been advertised and presented doesn't really come off like that. So it's something I find just out of place, dissonant, and jarring in a series like this. I had the same problem as one of the gripes with another recent series, Clevatess of last season, only I felt that that that series had more positive going for it to offset it. But the same thing with antagonists/villains mostly being extreme caricatures to the point of absurdity. I hope this doesn't catch on as some soon-to-be ubiquitous new fad or trend.

I'd like to get invested in the romance but the main character is the standard wet blanket Goody Two-Shoes with a savior complex and crusader streak to boot so at this point I'd rather the original girl Towa (his unofficially adoptive sister) or the android or whoever have better than him. And I'd like to get invested in the dystopic societal conflict but the villains make Team Rocket look like serious professionals so it's just kind of a joke.

Oof, this was a bad episode. A really bad episode, at that, one that immediately erased any confidence episode 1 had given me for the show.

We have yet another anime trying to justify slavery as "not that bad, actually", as well as a bundle of hackneyed writing cliches thrown in on top of that. I already find myself feeling annoyed at the overuse of "that's classified information" as a cheap and artificial way to withhold information from the viewer. Akira kind of sucks as a protagonist (there's no reason for him to care so much about Amoru so quickly, other than that being a cliche way to write a moralistic protagonist), and right on the other side of it we have aggressively campy and over-the-top of the villains every week that just remove any sort of nuance from the story.

I do enjoy Takehito Koyasu playing this sort of ridiculously campy villain in isolation, and I like he's putting on more of his Roswaal intonation in this role as well, but having another villain like this after Fascist Zap Brannigan last week just doesn't work for me.

More typical tropes. Slaves, manipulation, betrayal etc.

200 years have passed and Yuugure's also more than 150 years old. Need more info on how things happened. Doesnt seem like Ai went berserk but rather maybe the bad guys used the androids to rebuild the world like this.
