Yes, this Monica girl is intimiating but I like her personality. This anime needs a character like her but I do hope she doesn't have too much ego.

In a nutshell, I feel like this episode is still trying to adjust Sam to her neighborhood and environment. Seems thsi show also shows glimpses of other character's everyday lives. I have to admit even at just three episodes, it has a colorful cast.

That scene with them being the uber gamers at the arcade was pretty cringe, not gonna lie.

Also, I still don't believe that the review site wouldn't remove the negative reviews, seems like an obvious case of brigading and I can't believe a site like this wouldn't have a rule against it.

I liked the scene with Olivia outside the arcade though.

Sam at least told Marshall she's the devopler of Ruminate. I don't blame Marshall for not playing Ruminate the way Sam intended, he's a streamer after all. Marshall probably said he didn't like the game as a jest.

Marshall has shown this episode he understands people's feelings, with Sam being shy and that she probably has anxiety. He's good guy who will probably give Ruminate a fair shake next episode on his stream.

i like the vibes and the quite drawings tbh

started with sam seeing marshal's gf Monica but they don't want to expose it to the world cuz this might make the ppl turns on them, then we see the guild, tbh they look like a great team, everyone of them looks chill and cool and they are really friendly with each other, sam did take some confidence from the guild especially Olivia she really stood on business

sam tells with the weirdest way ever but yoo she did

When Olivia said to force that indie game site to change, my brain added "by attacking their payment providers" and made me laugh. I don't know how they're going to resolve that issue, but until they mentioned that I'd thought getting Marshall Law to play her game again was the most obvious route.

This only kind of feels like an anime. The Japanese dialogue definitely shows signs of having been translated from English, but maybe I shouldn't expect American characters to talk like Japanese people.

Yeah, I dropped it after the first episode but got curious to see where it would go. I think I'll see it through.

@CottonModem What's standing out to you as a translation?

Just curious since the anime writer is Aya Matsui, from Pokemon.

I have a feeling the reception hasn't been very good because of how "international" it is, knowing the anime community. I've been enjoying it though.

The guild holds meetings in a Chuck E. Cheese type of place and the employees are scared of them.. That's hilarious.

I'm glad she finally told him about Ruminate. I did not want that to drag on any longer.

pretty good group and a good restaurant (even if I didn't want to stay on it for five nights), Sam finally say all to Marshall, maybe he's gonna replay the game with the good way this time!

I like the way Sam handled Marshall at the end. No real drama just she said her name, the game she made, what he did wrong and just went home. There was nothing else she could add and yelling at him wouldn't do anything. A lot more mature than some other shows where they add a lot of unnecessary grief.

Loved the episode. I'm glad Samara finally confronted Marshall about what he did to her. I'm curious to see how Marshall will handle things now that he knows the truth, especially since we didn’t really get to see his reaction before the episode ended. Super excited for what’s next.

It's diverse because the source is a webtoon by an American creator. Not that I don't agree with enjoying the diversity, though!

I adore Monica and I can't wait for people to see why she's really a great character. This entire anime is a whole throwback and it might not be the best ever prpduced, but I'm very much enjoying it.

Yes I hate Marshall Law but I also respect his own opinion about her game, at least he did play the game. The real problem is the review bomb from those who haven't play the game and complaining to Marshall Law won't solve the problem. This episode just give me a headache, how can this anime go so wrong on a simple gaming knowledge.

Still doesn't sit right with me. Maybe it's just because it's such a major plot point that feels unrealistic to me.

Not as unrealistic as her guild though, that's for sure.

@uselessDM Maybe you should check a few website for that. Usually sites don't remove ratings and reviews if there's no rule breaks.
Yeah I get the part unrealistic to you. The plot is like that it won't make sense.

It's probably inspired by a real life site, but not sure which one it would be though.

Most the real life examples of games being review bombed would be aaa releases which were released in an unfinished state.

The one example I found was in relation to TotalBiscuit fans review bombing an indie game, but apparently only after the developer made a comment about the video in question.

This episode was good. I'm starting to like this a little bit.

I'm glad she is finally speaking out. And now that he knows that his actions have caused these bad reviews to happen.

Anyway, does anyone know the name of the song at the end where she tells Marshal about ruminate? Not the ending theme, but just before that.

Just binge the first three episodes and really liking what it’s going so far. Relieved that Sam was able to tell him who she entirely was in the end of this episode in a way that was all her own and she did brilliantly. 👏🏼
Loved her conversation with Olivia outside the arcade. I didn’t expect that kind of conversation with this particular character, or simply a case where Olivia would be so much more out front and centre so soon. It’s great really here that this moment can show so genuinely and without force how diverse this particular cast really is without feeling like it’s been shoehorned in or just to tick off a list in order to be more different from other productions.
I really like her character already and that she was able to help Sam out of her rut in a way probably only she could do among her friends.

Again, I don’t know what people are complaining about in terms of the animation. It seems like people are expecting some sort of god tier work or something for a story that doesn’t warrant it. It seems to be really good here for the story in question and I like how it seems to in a way blend the line between its origins as a web comic, Korean animations and Japanese anime. Plus it makes sense it’s a little bit different really ever so so slightly with it also being set in the US.

Anyway, now that Sam has laid things out for Marshall, I really do wonder where things will go from here so early on in the story, especially now I know her has a fox/beautiful wolf of a… “friend’. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

I couldn’t agree with you more there. I really love this mix of characters we are seeing here and it is feeling quite natural rather than being forced in a way. It’s a very hard juggling act but it seems to be paying off so far. Especially with Olivia helping Sam out in the end.
I didn’t know entirely what to expect from her character, but I definitely didn’t expect her to have such a prominent role in helping Sam to get over a piece of her trouble and anxiety here so soon.
It would be good if other anime productions did this more in the future. Obviously this particular series is set in the US so it makes sense it’s more diverse with the groups of people who are shown here, but it still would be good if other anime showed this more regularly in Japan as well, considering the overall look the country is changing more and more every year.

I have a feeling the reception hasn't been very good because of how "international" it is, knowing the anime community. I've been enjoying it though.

It would be very sad if that was indeed the case. These kinds of more just general representation, or simply just showing how everyday life really is for some, need to be more widely accepted. I mean, the series is set in Los Angeles apparently, so there’s an added reason as to why this should just be given a thumbs up, but even if it was less so, the face of anime is changing as time goes on in Japan, South Korea and indeed China or continue to change in how they show the faces of their characters and the array of them as well. This is inevitable as these countries demographics continue to shift as they have across the world, and people need to be able to adjust to this reality.
Kind of feel like this anime/Web tune among others are a good stepping stone for this. Of course obviously there’s plenty of other anime out there that have got good diversity in character ethnic backgrounds, but a lot of them weirdly seem to be sitting in sci-fi world.
This feels like a pretty great one for the present day.

I like that we got to see other characters but I can't help to think that they really didn't know what to put in between last week's cliffhanger and this week's ending.
It made the episode feel like it was a waste of time.

@DanielW100 This ep has mostly positive comments, but the series overall score dropped again :'D

I think the 3 episode test is dead, so we are stuck with the Rorschach test that is episode 1.

Flow chart:

>> Will you accept the art and animation or reject it?

>> Do you love the scenes in the coffee shop or hate it?
>> Do you love the scenes in the office or absolutely hate it?

>> Do you continue for the 3 episode test, or rate a 1 & drop on MAL despite only watching one ep?

Not that I'm saying folks are wrong for how they rate on MAL. Fans are always right ig.

Just think it's also super funny that the first overall series review went up today, and it starts by wondering why the score is so low in the 6.15~6.20 range, proceeds to recommend the anime as being better than the current score suggests, then concludes by....rating the anime a 6

Turns out, Marshall Law isn't the only one in his own apartment, but there's also the fellow ViewTuber of Monica McKenzie that he's secretly dating, affiliated by her Glitz Kitten fashion brand, that builds up Sam's confrontational walls again for her to obfuscate the truth once again.

Otherwise, it's the usual guild invitation that Sam is looking forward to in the World of Warquest, though Marshall has a side of his that can feel lethargic, and yet again, these two's relationship can be topsy-turvy at times. It's pretty much a similar story with her close clique of the Rare Spawns, being the Top 3rd guild of their game worthy enough to celebrate at an arcade center, scaring the people working there when they show up.

Of course, when Sam gets a bad rap on her indie game and the indie site undoing less than half the damage already caused to her career as a game developer, the deaf "robot" Olivia giving her a pep talk to do better and stand up against the confrontation she's had so far, it's at least a starting point to get her act together and make things right with Marshall.

At least the show is now being presentable with Sam's encouragement, so what is Marshall going to do about this?

A lot of English words. Like Dallas saying 'testosterone' and 'PMS', among several other examples - sounds unnatural to the Japanese ear, despite Japanese already having a lot of loan words.

The show is getting better. The characters are taking on more depth. Marshmallow telling his not-girlfriend that Sam is socially awkward so please be gentle with her. And Sam finally gets the resolve to tell Marsh that he approached her game completely wrong. And publicly unfairly judged her game. She stuck to the facts of her argument and didn't weaken it by bringing feelings into it or mentioning the rock bottom rating of her game.
Now all we need is Monica giving Sama glow up and making Marshall catch feelings for our female MC.

@No_Comment_Plz Thanks for feedback, I get what you mean. My review was more about encouraging people to give the show a try rather than focusing on the number itself. Sadly, MAL doesn’t let you post reviews without a rating, so I had to pick one — and I personally see 3 stars or 6/10 as a decent score. It just looks worse here since MAL’s averages are pretty inflated; even the most generic shows tend to hover above 6.

I’m liking this. But probably only because nothing else this season has really been impressing me so far. Anime about gamers is always interesting, being a gamer myself. More so since this is about a game designer, and that’s a field that I want to pursue myself. But like I said, nothing else has really impressed me so far.

@Ephemeric_soul Thanks for explaining your thoughts and personal nuance.

I do agree about the rating inflation on MAL; it's just that people talk about the split between a 6.99 and a 7.00 as if it were the difference between Rotten Tomato's "Fresh" vs "Rotten."

It's probably a good thing that MAL doesn't do something so reductive like Rotten Tomatoes.....or, I wonder, if they did (assuming greater than 5.55 = Fresh and under 5.55 = Rotten) people would change their rating scale...or the way they discuss shows in the 6 range.
