Been a while hasn’t it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, no need to beat a dead horse. Something something J.C. Staff’s biggest disappointment has been said ever since season two aired all those years ago, and here we still are. I know they did a recap thing not too long ago, like a week or so, but man even something would’ve been nice because I’m ngl I was a bit lost at first. The first part of the episode is basically just a bunch of heroes being called to finally deal with the Monster guys from last season, so yeah, that’s the gist.

It wasn’t until the second half that we finally see our main gang again, and god it’s been far too long. And hey, we actually got our first proper bit of animation this season, with some nice bouncy character acting from Fubuki. The rest of the episode animation-wise... yeah, there were at least some strong drawings. But really, why even try this hard on the drawings when you’re attempting to replicate the art style of Yusuke Murata himself xD

I mean, a return this was for sure. Too early to judge animation wise since this was a setup episode to the whole rescue arc with the kid and all, but we'll just have to hold on hope from here... some MAJOR hope that is.

One PowerPoint Man is real, and so far the animation looks even worse than Season 2. I’m curious how the fight scenes will turn out. Not only that, the direction was atrocious. I’m definitely going to drop this at some point.

Yami Shibai hour?
Ridiculous animation! Deformed faces, characters without movement, plot that advances like someone moving the screen with a mouse, terrible and unbearable episode!

The color usage this season is pretty good. Garou walking outside the prison cell looked really stupid though. Safe to say there will probably be more than 1 or 2 cuts each episode that might be broken like this.

dang the storyboards and direction is mid, the animation especially the walking scene of garo on the monster hideout tunnel is so stiff too for example

also did they forgot to change the clothes of fubuki for this season

anyway at least the close up drawings are good but the actual animation is mid

and here she is

The art style is definitely better than season 2. Can't say much about animation since there wasn't any action yet. Though the walking animations are a bit off, especially when Garou was walking after getting out of his cell lol.

Our goat OPM is finally back! Garou gonna steal season 3 to season 5!
The episode begins with the hero association planning to find Garou! We got some nice Do-S fan service! Where are bug god and royal ripper gonna go?
Sonic appears in the end!

im currently watching s2 for the first time and i dont personally see why s2 is not animated as good as s1 is yet i see everyone say that season 2 dropped in quality. as i am trying to figure out why this is the case could you elaborate to me as to how s2 is worse than 1 in quality of animation?

This first episode is fine, i mean theres still people voiced it. I will wait until the sakuga fight comin tru, if its was slideshow, then idk how to help this season. (Actually the first episode was kindly bad, i mean the pacing was so fast, the perspective was bad, also theyre actually changing the shinning things its make it better than season 2, still the animation was mid, like you can add some little sakuga, but there is not). We should keep an optimistic for this new season, i also hope the studio and worker give us an surprise (like what J.C staff always did)

Yes its back and they jumped right in.
The humor is still on point, the animation is mid but that is true for most of the shows out this season.

If you folks can do a better job animating go for it!
Just glad Saitama and company are back.

@Anime_Phenom Season 1 was made by Madhouse, a studio that better managed their inner resources, barely making 2 anime yearly, while J.C Staff pumps 10 in average. Also, the crew who got to work in season 1 was one of a kind event, like, the the sun, the moon and the planets all aligned. J.C Staff has good in house animators, but they are overloaded. Also, whoever was the director of art and/or photography in season 2 did a lame job.

About the first episode of One Punch Man, I liked it and found it interesting. I really enjoyed the opening and the design, but I thought the animation felt a bit static, even though there wasn’t any action yet. I’m excited, but keeping my expectations neutral.

Episode went as I expected: better overall aesthetic choice compared to the season 1 and the same(ish) animation level, so this season is already going to be better than the previous one mostly because of it. Animation wise, it was ok. Whenever a project has limited resources, the director must be smart to properly manage the season, so yeah, some good gag scenes here and there, most scenes are limited or even full static, making room for the fight scenes that will actually need complex animation. I'm also expecting more 3d, because it's the director's specialty, hybrid 2d+3d animation.

My highly anticipated anime is back! This time my favorite character Garo will be tested physically and morally, can he stay true to himself in a world divided between hero and monster?

It seems like this season try to imitate character design from season 1, but I think season 2 design is doing just fine, most people are not gonna agree with me though.

Also can I get season 4 announcement already? It's one of a few anime where I want a full anime adaptation of the whole manga, no matter the result of the adaptation is.

Art is definitely better than in the last season, but the first episode barely had any animation at all. Everyone was just standing and talking.
The walking animation actually looked off in a way.

I hope they are just saving resources for the fights, I don't mind if the conversation scenes are like this.

Holy PowerPoint animation lol. It's funny seeing people are still coping by saying that this is not a priority episode and what not. Fucking Bandai Namco man this company ruined two of my favourite(OPM & TOG S2) anime franchises with their atrocious schedules and low budgets.

The only thing I liked this season is the opening song by Jam project

OPM season 1 was the best and worst thing to ever happen to this series. That season put OPM on the mainstream map but unless you could reassemble that entire staff, subsequent seasons would obviously be unable to live up to the ridiculously high expectations S1 set visuals-wise. Complaining about the animation is just beating a dead horse atp, we know we're never getting S1 quality back so why even bother lol. There was barely any "animation" in this conversation-heavy setup episode anyway, so I'll reserve judgment for when we actually get some action. Though I still won't expect much even when we get to that point.

As far as this episode specifically goes, I mean, it was fine. Then again, it's pretty hard to fuck up a setup episode when characters aren't moving much and it's mostly just talking.

It's back after six long years, and I'm so fucking excited for it. Can't even lie. I really want to see our guys and this series moving forward. Even if it's at a snail's pace.

The first episode follows the aftermath of last season and how the monsters are preparing. And, how Hero Association and our guys are making it through. Saitama and buddies are chilling as usual. As for the Hero Association, the search is going on for their hideout. Garou was rescued, and he's now being asked to be a leader for them. He doesn't seem interested in any of that, tho. LOL

This episode was more of a setup episode for the following season and how things gonna get super intense and action-packed from now on. Even tho the episode was mostly all talk and setting things up, it was directed rather well. Lots of still frames tho. I don't have too many complaints. The line art seems strong. And, the comp. has taken a major upgrade, which is nice to see since that was one big issue in S2. The music is great as always. The OP was amazing, and ED was cool as well.

I'm excited to see how J.C Staff handles this season. I know things might be tight behind the scenes, but I'd like to believe in them. So, I'm looking forward to this season. Almost forgot to mention, Fubuki looks really pretty and so is her sister, Tatsumaki. I love them both. Super-S was incredibly hot-looking as well. LOL

Can't believe it's been over 6 fucking years since Season 2 came out. What took 'em so long? Oh well. I already accepted that Season 1 was a one-of-a-kind event that won't be replicated again. But surely, after all this time, Season 3 is going to be better than Season 2 at least, right?

*Watches first episode of Season 3*
Oh... It's bad. They didn't even put any effort in the first episode which is usually one of the better animated episodes of any anime. Sure, it's just people talking. But somehow the studio made even that look so boring and flat. I'd say that maybe they're saving the budget for the fight scenes. But even the fucking scenes of Garou walking looked so cheap... Yeah, this doesn't bode well. This shit makes Sakamoto Days look like a masterpiece. There's a slight chance Season 3 might be even worse than Season 2. Now that'd be a fun dumpsterfire to watch burn lol.

Anyway, I guess the OP is decent. Better than Season 2 OP at least. It's sad to see OPM, a series that could easily become really popular if done right be done dirty like this. Reminds me of the upcoming CGI remake of Fist of the North Star. I just don't understand wtf they're thinking. I'm just glad Mob Psycho 100 didn't suffer the same fate.

each season the animation gets worse and worse; I might just start reading it... it feels like even one could have drawn better, and I feel that anime in general should be at least a bit cinematic... I do not like the path of this quantity-over-quality that the industry is taking.
