Idk wtf I was smoking rating the first season a 5/10 back when it first aired so I upped that to a 7. Honestly I should have given it a 9 but I'll put a bit of faith in me from back then.

This show's seriously amazing im not surprised it blew up all over the internet, its a great depiction of a introvert and extrovert coming together for a shared interest. In general cosplayers are so charming, at least the ones willing to put in the level of effort Marin and Gojo can put in.

This show came back very strong with great animation and just overall great moments between Marin and Gojo. Like seriously the small details they put into this show is astonishing especially with some of the characters hand movements.

Gojo holding all that is mighty back when in the photoshoot with Marin was so valid, Bro was holding back literal demons.

and like wow he literally had a midlife crisis at the end realising not everyone's his enemy. Then she popped the big question to Marin and Gojo at the end, completely reasonable question ngl

Great return episode

Casting Youhei Azakami for the character that canonically has "a hot voice"? I couldn't agree more~

Anyway, I'm so glad this show is back for a 2nd season. The manga is great as is but the anime's voice acting, expressive visuals and fitting OST really bring this story to life and to another level!

So first off, I’m an anime only fan so I got no knowledge on the manga. And Maybe it was just because it was the first episode but I felt the vibe was off? Like there was absolutely no room to breath and we were rushing through every scene. Again, maybe because it was the first episode but Oh my GOSH there was so much going on. I felt myself get a bit overwhelmed. I just wanted a moment to linger on Marin or Gojo’s passions or freak outs but we kept just jumping to the next scene instead.
The animation was great though! I dunno, I’m not disappointed and I’m not gonna judge the quality too much over the first episode. I’m sooo excited to see what this season has in store!! I love Marin & Gojo so so much

So much more comedy than anything else in this first ep, considering it's the s2 comeback. Honestly kinda boring overall, need to get better. I am really hoping it will.

@Fairtale Before I respond, I'd recommend you to not watch 2.5 Dimensional Seduction which is also about cosplaying like My Dress Up Darling is here, the difference between the two is while one (Darling) has some ecchi to it, it's mostly handled better here (mind you both series have uncomfortable moments but I digress) than 2.5 handles it's content and moments. I think a lot of people are right to compare 2.5 to Darling and frown upon the choices made in 2.5 that can be scummy at times and nonsensical at others (E.g. some ecchi cliches are in 2.5 where as they aren't in Darling). But having said that, a LOT of people also feel Darling is scummy and that Marin is as you said which brings me to replying to your reply.

I cannot deny there likely is some lv of a checklist the author used when creating Marin. But if you stop and look at most anime, you'll see there's usually a checklist of things in any genre/theme/characters and such. Should we then hate on all anime and characters and be reviled by them for having those check lists? No. Look at Isekai as a GREAT example of this, its the kind of anime that Harem anime once was, over produced, to the point you have so many same things happening it gets old, fast and stale. And I love Isekai I should add but even I say it's time to move on from them. Harem, suffered the same, having it's own check list and same result, so many male leads who never settled on a single girl and usually bland, dull, boring, self insert character and then have 2-5, sometimes more girls fawning all over him, often for some of the most dumbest reasons imaginable. And ofc, theres the other check lists for them am not even going to mention because I'm getting off topic. Back on topic, the point am trying to get at is, in the case of oh this girl is covering a lot of check lists and there's a male lead (rarely a female lead but they exist both for female love interest and male love interest, Otome in the latter's case) she is or may be into, there's usually a check list for this. Heck, most anime girls especially these days, are designed to be Bishoujo (aka beautiful/pretty girls) because, sad reality is, beauty sells, if something isn't pretty/attractive it can turn people off from it which is why most shows (not all I will add) and more so these days than in the past feature girls and guys to a lesser extent, being pretty/handsome.

As a perfect example of this, I legit cannot take an anime girl seriously when she says she wishes she was pretty... like, girl, you're already pretty enough! Anyway, check lists for everything almost exist, it is how stories are created in any media, I can get why some would take issue with Marin (and more so her + the series' name even if I think it's a great and cleaver name) but I'm just saying, ost anime have that checklist for girls in them, in most shows, maybe not exactly like Marin, but it's still there to some extent. I choose however to focus on the positive sides of Darling and Gojou and Marin and co. It's LEAGUES better than 2,5 is which handles the topic of cosplaying in such a way that it straight up IS what you said Marin and Darling is. Where as Darling here tries to be respectful to the material, that is, cosplaying despite some of the checks on the list you mentioned. In fact, if you were to watch even the 1st episode or 3 of 2.5 I think you'd have a better appreciation for Darling and Marin than you do now. Please note am not saying you should watch 2.5. (Iirc I dropped 2.5 late into the show)

As to the last thing you mentioned, I do believe part of it is your perception of bunny girls and what you said, not all of it sure, but still you have a negative outlook towards bunny girls because of playboy. I can't really help you there but I can tell you if you google anime bunny girl, you'd likely find tons of anime with bunny girls in it or figures of them even if they didn't wear the outfit. I personally see nothing wrong with the outfit and my best advice is, to try not to let it bother you and separate the two.

As for her being "too perfect in an almost plastic way", well, keep in mind the story is still being told (and I don't read manga almost ever and haven't for this series) so maybe some faults will be shown later (or maybe they already were and I don't recall them because it's apparently been 3.5 years since S1 aired...) but even if not, I can understand where you're coming from but this isn't an issue I feel with this series much less with Marin. I'm a big Otaku and proud of it. I see myself a lot in Marin. Though she and I are very different girls. As for her showing too much nakedness. I do know you aren't recall the outfits she's worn from S1 and likely have forgotten she cosplays as Eroge characters, some of her outfits are just that, revealing and I personally don't see anything wrong with that but I get her not wanting to show too much skin such as with this bunny girl outfit, her solution was basically skin suit XD she can be a bit quirky at times but I love that side of her, dunno if it'd be a fault but adds to her charm and can be a bit weird at times where she draws and doesn't draw the line but nothing wrong with that. Anyway, point is, you shouldn't let the amount of skin shown bother you.

I think this ep bothering you isn't just a you thing though, in my case it bothered me but for different reasons being, I ain't comparing the art style but I don't recall it being this low quality that it's noticeable worse and the art style changes which I commented on were both taking me out of the experience and ep itself. Sure the animation is better I believe, but that's not always a good thing if the art style has to suffer for it. It was a largely good ep, with soem faults, such as what I mentioned but also the pacing was bad such as the jump to that party... hopefully future eps will resolve any issues ep 1 had.

Oh I totally agree! It's not like I'm hating on it, I actually like this anime a lot. I just felt like sharing my thoughts on the EP, I'm on myanimelist for exactly the type of exchange we're having right now which I think is super cool

YES! 100%. Isekai genre has been suffering a lot since Sword Art Online made the genre popular and all the cheap studios/authors jumped on the popularity vagon. As for harem, I also totally agree: Not only does this ruin the MC, but to accomodate for the harem genre without all the girls hating on each-other, most times the female characters turn into these dumbed-down 2d versions of a real person, very shallow and kinda boring IMO.

That is true. I think its more like... really hard to explain... I think when people are young, they often have this 'marketing version' of what an ideal person is like, and it is usually some version of what is currently popular in movies or music. Once people get older, they find out their own tastes and start hovering to what THEY actually like. I like anime that goes down a bit more of a niche, and less of a "default wishlist checklist of what is currently trending". I think that's what gave me a big of a platic-feel with the playboy think. Does that make sense?

_Kaorinite said:

Oh it's not like I 'dont like bunny girls' (thought it might be true I'm more of a neko fan) but I think what bothered me here was the way they present it as "hey, how about she just LOVES to dress up as a playboy porn model?". In other words: I wonder if bunny girls would be that popular in anime culture if Playboy hadn't branded the bunny-girl fetish that strongly in the first place. But if I think about it, it really doesn't make a difference if its a bunny-girl, cat-girl, or whatever... I guess they are all different sides of the same thing xD

Yeah that is weird, this often happens when the animation studio changes between series. They often take a 'better' team to do S1, and then a cheaper team to do S2 once it's popular, to maximize profits (I hate that). But in this case it is the same studio, so I hope it won't happen here. But I do remember that in S1 the quality also fluctuated a bit, focussing on special moments, so maybe they are saving resources for an upcoming episode where they go all out? Let's hope so :)

Cloverworks style is just so goated I'm afraid... Whole episode looked fantastic.

After so long, MDUD IS BACK!!! I've already read the manga waiting so long for the season 2 and it's finally here!!! Marin was one of my favorites back in 2022 so it's great to see her and Gojo again in anime form.

No complains at all about this first episode. Great work as usual from cloverworks so I'm happy about MDUD'S return. Idk if this show will reach the Haniel arc but would be dope if so.

Nowa sang her heart out so hard she asked Gojo and Marin if they were dating from all the adrenaline lol. That was a great scene.

COOL episode, a bit repetitive if you have seen the season 1 recently but very pleasing if you did a long time ago when it was airing. This season is, I think, gonna be as good as the first one but, as the first one was very good, season 2 is not gonna disappoint me.

Feel like I'm in the minority here but something about the animation looks worse/off to me compared to S1.
@Gar_Logan Nah, you’re not. Parts of it were WAY too “Bocchi-fied” for me (same Art Director). To the point where it looked like a different show. And it happened throughout the episode. I feel like saw about 4 different art styles; it was just all over the place. I understand the bunny girl anime in the beginning being different, but it took them till about halfway through for them to get back to the art style I recognized from season 1. It’s a pet peeve of mine when the art style changes between seasons.

Did the vibe of the show change? Or did I not remember right?

Its been years since season 1 so maybe I am crazy. Its not a good or bad change it just feels different.
@Robmo I feel like they went “we need to make this show more like BTR” for some reason. Can’t say I’m all that on board with it yet (and I like BTR, but let shows have their own character/vibe).

one of the best looking shows Cloverworks has ever produced, the colors and level of detail reminded me of Wonder Egg Priority

it can get cliche with the fanservice as it did in the middle of the episode, but Gojo's scene at the end made it feel seinen, it was so well executed

also the girl singing her lungs out during that scene felt like she was singing something from Shinsei Kamattechan, damn
@anikevin Akebi’s Sailor Uniform blows this out of the water, as does Wonder Egg Priority. Not saying it’s bad (it definitely isn’t), but nowhere near their best.

My adorable series is backkkkkk.

I love how they did episode 13, and not 1, feels really welcoming. Looks like the animation studio did a level up, lots of the shots are really emotive and animated, I'm hoping no AI was used.

God I'm so happy to see the VA doing a hell of a job making these characters so lively and real, Gojo's last reaction was so relateable XD

Also I forgot where the anime ended in S1, but thank god they made progress with his trauma. (I read all the manga so that didnt help me figure out where it stopped, lol)

It might be all in favor of creating cheap tropes to appeal the anime crowd (waifu and fanservice), but author manages to do that with so much charisma and authenticity. Last scene genuinely felt like a normal teenage hangout, which is extremely rare for anime. Also I think the pacing is faster and the story is actually benefitting from that

Introduction

The first two minutes made me think it was a different anime, however I loved the small skit. An anime within an anime is definitely a cool idea, and the animation is as good as always since the first season was well animated.

The intro was really good, great song selection for the OP with classic Japanese pop, and the animation is really fluid, hats off to Cloverworks, that studio is giving their all. One thing I did not like about the intro animation is that they added white regions around it and let the credits roll there, it takes away space from the animation, I would have liked it full screen.

Concourse Highlights

Now I like the little details in the animation, the slight movements done explicitly, those tiny weight shifts and body movements by Marin are cute. The chibi animation of her is adorable too, I really love that. However when the geeky discussions related to the mini anime kicked in I found it boring for a moment, but it ended quickly so it is not a big deal.

From the banter between Gojo and Marin it looks like the first cosplay is going to be the bunny girl outfit from that mini anime. Even the ambient and background animations are done well, I wonder how many frames are in just the first episode, they are so detailed you can’t look away. The last time I watched something this fluid was Onimai and the most recent Frieren Beyond Journey’s End, definitely check them out, it is a fresh breath of air compared to all the stiff animations we get nowadays, gotta appreciate the animators’ hard work.

I also liked the comedic skit when Gojo went to the store to buy materials for the cosplay and the old man assumed he was the one who would wear the costume, anime misunderstandings strike back, but I gotta appreciate the old man for being broad minded and actually accepting the idea XD

Except for the very short Pocky scene at the beginning of the concourse, there was not much else going on, it was mostly about designing and fitting the cosplay, well until Gojo walked in on Marin trying the prototype costume. The accidental walk in cliché is cheesy but definitely worth the watch wink wink

Cosplay Photoshoot

We move on to the studio where they take pictures for the cosplay, we get the cosplay finally, that happened fast. I loved the moment when Gojo worried about Marin exposing her skin lol. The photos were glamorous, but of course shonen romance means some ecchi scenes took center stage for a bit, then we swung back to the geeky stuff about bunny suits. I love the fast paced storytelling, but I think the first episode moved a little too fast.

I did not know how we got to the Halloween party, a bit of real Tokyo footage made me think it was a post episode credit scene. I believe the first episode was rushed out, and the dialogue flew in all directions so it sounded hazy and I could not find one thing to focus on.

Character Focus

What I liked about the karaoke scene is that Gojo got a small flashback of something I guess is a traumatic moment from the first season, love how they connected it here, good to see the story is still in place and the lore remains the main focus. Finally a little focus on Gojo’s life.

Ending & Credits

The ending was abrupt, I guess they are trying their best to make the most of the screen time, however I was expecting a credit scene. Rolling credits in the intro makes sense now, they wanted to finish quickly.

Conclusion

All in all it is great to see that the quality has been retained and even improved. Generally you do not see second seasons do well since the focus is on preserving the fan base rather than quality, and that is almost always deliberate. Cloverworks can go toe to toe with MAPPA when it comes to animation, I was highly satisfied with it.

I would give this episode an 8 out of 10. The animation is stellar, but the story flow felt messy and unfocused. We need more story focus rather than realistic chaos of dialogue coming from all corners of my headphones. I do not know Japanese so it is hard to keep up with the subtitles, the dub is not out yet and even if it was I would never watch it for obvious reasons.

However they are definitely trying to be creative here, I’m pretty sure many people will appreciate this kind of experimentation. Looking forward to the next episode.

First two minutes into the second season, it didn't feel like I was watching KiseKoi, hahaha. Oh yeah, this is the first anime by CloverWorks (out of three) that I watched this season. So far, even though CloverWorks has worked on three well-known and highly anticipated anime, KiseKoi S2 doesn't disappoint in any way. Hopefully, it will stay that way until the end!

Damn.

I didnt really like it.

Lets start with the fact that im not a big fan of this anime, i watched the first season and dropped it somewhere around episode 10.
But im a big fan of Marin.

And is it just me or was the first season completely different in style?
I dont remember much but it seems like there wasnt that idiotic comedy and sketches?
Although maybe it was.

But that really piss me off. Idk, most of jokes are not funny and all this clowning seems completely unnecessary.
As if these are not two ordinary teenagers but two comedians or even clowns who are trying their best to be funny but end up being cringe.

But i liked the moment with old man who imagined Gojou in a bunny costume and that moment in karaoke when Gojou dies inside in a bunny costume (but a different type bunny lol).

WELL AND OF COURSE I LIKED ALL THE MOMENTS WITH MARIN SHE IS VERY CUTE AND SEXY I LOVE HER SHE IS MY WIFE
.

And that moment with pantsu... Marin is a real gyaru and wears revealing underwear ngl. And her butt in a bunny costume is something.

About animation - on the one hand everything is cool and smooth, but on the other you can feel the strong influence of 3D (for example, at the beginning there is a moment when the angle approaches Gojou and flies around him on the right side, it looked like it was made on a computer, not drawn by hand). And i love hand animation.

So i dont know, i started watching for Marin and is it worth watcing is an open question for me.

In general my main complaint is this idiotic stand-up moments.

The goddess Marin is back, and so is Spica Spica for the OP!
Bless you, CloverWorks, for those glorious bunny Marin fanservice scenes. Poor Gojo is in for another rough ride this season.

Was that a reference to Bunny Girl Senpai? Marin as a bunny girl and Gojo in a pink bunny outfit.

Gojo's low self-esteem really got to her, making her overthink things that weren't true. Luckily, Marin's friends are like her: they didn't judge him at all. In fact, they admired him for the work he does. It seems that girl, Non, wasn't the only one who treated Gojo badly... but her impact hit deep.

Awesome first episode, and kudos to Nowa for closing it perfectly with that question that got Gojo rattled.

I rewatched the season 1 before starting the season 2, to have the story in mind and also the technics used for the animations.

As before, the story is really fun, Gojo is starting to open his heart and erasing his bad past memories, letting them replaced by more joyfull moment with Marine (and her friends sometimes).

But for the animations, I thing it less good than what it was shown in the season 1. There is more slide panel used or static image. I hope it will be improved in the future episodes.

But all in all, I'm really happy that this anime is coming back this summer ^^

Marin is pretty and sexy as usual~ she in her bunny suit is amazing too~ Those boobs, those hips, those butt~ She's a great figure... just... she's still too young... a 15 years old teenager...
Cool friend Marin have there~ The last one, Nowa asking straight with a microphone xD

Theirs no ED song.... the OP song... is nothing special I guess...

I'm curious.... That guy with a girl clothing... He look like a normal straight guy.... not a feminine guy... But why is he wearing a short dress without being shy? -_-
I'm so confuse if this kind of guy exist.... crossdressing but is actually straight... or.. are they not straight? Hhuhu
