Netflix anime is getting better by the year. They’re slowly adding and diversifying genres regardless of how old they are and the “shiny” new ones are looking good. It’s a breath of fresh air seeing they’re aren’t fixated on the same old shounen.

Compared to Crunchyroll where it’s very shounen centric and it’s still very limited.

Their owners should be sweating if they aren’t going to up their game and make their library BIGGER.

Yeah, I agree. Most of Crunchyroll's content isn't even available in my country.

doesn't Netflix still not support overlay text on their subs, that is like a complete deal-breaker for me

also CR absolutely has a giant back catalog even if they stupidly sit on the rights to stuff. like you aren't telling me they don't have the rights to Slayers from the Funi acquisition

on the other hand Netflix has Dennou Coil so maybe Netflix does win

netflix is definitely getting better with anime over time.

that said though, their subs ae horrible, but i guess i don't know the situation at crunchyroll with those so i can't eally compare and i can live with it since i already pay for netflix.

@betaweeb the quality of CR subs vary significantly but they do actively support overlay subs (i.e. subs which can convey on-screen text) which is a major plus. though unfortunately not all shows actually take advantage of this

I've noticed this to CR doesn't own to rights to so many DUBS, and just alot of shows i want to watch just aren't found on the anime exclusive streaming service lol.

@fbjim

oh yeah, that's another thing i dislike about netflix's subs, so i guess crunchyroll got them beat for the most part on that front, but i still don't see myself paying for crunchyroll anytime soon.

But I thought Crunchyroll had a monopoly...
Weird considering they are not even the top streaming service in anime...

@fbjim they didn't got slayers back because they let the license expired and didn't renew after the merge. When when will mal users understand that license are not forever and that they won't always be renewed. Licensing anime cost money if you want a license send a check to crunchyroll to pay for it if you want it that bad.

False equivalence especially considering that they license more every season since the merge offering a vide variety of shows while the catalog of Netflix is lacking in term of offering. Sure crunchyroll doesn't have everything everywhere and as opposed to Netflix doesn't tell you when a show leave. Also Netflix doesn't do just anime if anything the best Netflix anime it's in Japan but if you are in North America like me crunchyroll is definitely a good deal with all the titles available.

They both ain't good, although Netflix has Polish language but still can't give the same amount of anime as it does for other countries.

Which is why English, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Hungarian, Arabic and more pirate sites are way better.

Another example of "polish guy can't go 5 minutes without telling everyone he's polish"

It definitely feels like Netflix is getting better, and Crunchyroll is stagnating/getting worse.

I wouldn't say Netflix is better than Crunchyroll, though. Not yet anyway.

Netflix's overall catalogue is still much smaller, even if they have some big names like Evangelion. Crunchyroll still reliably picks up most of the seasonals, only missing out on a few of the big ones.

I used to stay subscribed to Crunchyroll most of the time, but started pausing Crunchyroll for longer and longer in favor of Netflix.

(North America, FYI)

Netflix may be better for the prestige/mainstream types of anime, but I'll still stick with HiDive/CR for the wider range of obscure/niche stuff.

What an amazing concept: sites that don't pay for licensing rights and translations can offer more than sites that have to pay for them. Easy to "win" when you can just cheat!

A public garbage dump also puts an open-air cesspit to shame so I don't really see this as any sort of major W for Netflix

Check how many Polish translations are available in CR [oh wait if I am not mistaken there's a total 0, even tho they promised to bring my language since I think 2016] and than Netflix [oh wait many titles aren't available here], which is why unlike others I am simply going for accessibility, I am not going to pay if it's not available in my language, I am Polish and if I pay for something I have a right to demand my own language, for titles I would like to watch, not a small portion of the whole. [The list of other languages is for titles which are not available by any legal means and almost not available by any means x) ]
