| So there was a forum I found interest in. A forum stating if mal is used to decide what anime gets made. Normally I would think no since japanese producers likely avoid english websites in general. I think the real power of mal is the marketing of series with absolutely no marketing elsewhere. Creating forums to discuss series and ways to track seasonals helps establish some series that would never be discussed irl. How big of an impact do you think mal has on a series success? Any series you picked up purely based on using mal? |

| I don't think so. A lot of people use MAL but I don't think it does anything towards marketing animes with a couple of exceptions (maybe something like Frieren had a little bit of help because of its rating on MAL but even that is a little far fetched imo). |

| Anime makes more profit from western customers than from japanese customers, and the gap keeps widening every year. But to answer your question: no, MAL doesn't influence what series succeeds, and there's a very simple reason for it. Anime industry in Japan makes most of its money from sales of expensive physical media and merchandise. Anime industry in the west makes most of its money from subscription services. |

| we starts seeing safe space anime these days so mal does hold it's own weight. it's not entirely on mal cause they just enforce what's coming from top management. basically if people taking steps to create more website listing that makes community becomes more decentralized maybe it would help to make anime obscure again. i'm probably part of problem too instead of just moving on. |
