Self explanatory but for those who don't understand - Anime that had a lot of potential but didn’t live up to it.

Bleach, it was perfect up until the soul society arc then we know what happen.

SDS, I don't remember which season it was, but the animation became a total mess.

Promised Neverland, let's not talk about this one.

Kono Sekai wa Fukanzen Sugiru from 2024 Summer season for example. It had an interesting concept, but the average writing partially ruined the whole show.

The main theme is still the most viewed anime song on youtube, but the movie is just lame.

-Bleach always be GREAT in every canons arcs๐Ÿ—ฟ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‘‘!Unyil the srart to the end of Godbo writting.
-TPN I'm still on ep4 or 5 of S1.So doesn't know for S2.
-SDS I drop it 3 times before ep10๐Ÿคฃ.
So the day I take my brave,to at least finsih S1.I will be able to continue and so judge by myself if it's that horrible.

To answer:
-ALYA๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ด,just destroy himself with his great student council plot.It should just doesn't try something it can't do right.
Alya should just be a romance.
Unlike Oregairu is also the GREATEST romance and one of best psychologics Masterpiece bc Wataru do well his criticism on society.

-In manga,my heart is broken to wrotte it but it's my favourite,๐Ÿ’œEdens๐Ÿ‘‘0๐Ÿ™.
The final arc is sincerly disapointing.

Unnamed Memory from last season felt really rushed. I'm not even an LN reader and knew it was a butchered adaptation.

Tokyo Ghoul is probably the most famous example of a failed anime

Sword Art Online, I am not a shounen guy but I would watch a hundred+ episodes long show if they actually went ahead with clearing all the 100 levels one by one. If it was done good obviously and the main character wouldnt be a gay edgelord

One Piece, if it weren't for the arcs that were stretched and formulaic to the extreme, plus the move towards DB when it comes to fights, could have even been the best adventure series.

Kaiju no 8, Kaiju which are known for being huge monsters destroying cities, here they are just small humanoid shit that is no different from other battle shounen, I would survive the ultra empty plot if they gave me fucked up huge monsters xD

rahXhephon... The ending was way to complicated for no reason and the mc could have benefited from 1 more episode after he learns the truth

Gundam SEED, the middle part was great but then they decided to shift from a very personal conflict which showed the themes in a very compelling way to nonsense politics and heavy plot armor but somehow they didn't use the plot armor to show the theme of the importance of power to bring peace... A theme they brought up but never explored

Darling in the Franxx - could have been the next big mecha franchise... until the show didn't do much with its material beyond Zero Two waifu worship. And of course, that terrible ending that was so bad its manga had to retcon.

A Certain Magical Index - the books are popular in East Asia, but the series isn't as well known in Western countries. Probably because of the anime adaptation, which didn't do justice to the source material. Especially with that terrible third season.

Metallic Rouge - hot off the heels of Lycoris Recoil and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, what looked like Bones Inc's next big hit turned out to be a dud that fell flat on its face.

The Magnificent Kotobuki - what if Girls und Panzer (GuP) was about World War II fighter planes, but lacked everything else that helped made GuP a cult classic ? Look no further. If all you want are cool dogfights, you'll be entertained. If you want more than just cool action scenes, look elsewhere.

Spy Classroom - seeing the success of Spy x Family, someone at studio Feel thought it was a good idea to cash in on the whole espionage trend. Sadly, their attempt in the form of Spy Classroom failed to resonate with most viewers. For anyone looking for a good spy series with cute girls, just go watch Princess Principal instead.

J-J-fucking-K. I honestly get peeved thinking about how good the cast of main characters are and how that mangaka barely did anything with them. They should've been written at the hands of a writer who actually gave a shit about them.

Promised Neverland Season 2: The first season was stellar, blending horror and mystery perfectly. However, the second season rushed through the story, skipping crucial arcs and leaving people disappointed.

Tokyo Ghoul: √A: The manga is beloved, but the anime’s deviation from the source material left many fans unsatisfied. It lacked the depth and character development that made the manga so compelling.

Sword Art Online: Alicization: While the premise and initial setup were intriguing, the series struggled with pacing and narrative focus, leading to a mixed reception.

Berserk (2016): Despite its iconic source material, the adaptation was plagued by poor animation quality and pacing issues, failing to capture the essence of the original story.

Guilty Crown: Started strong with impressive visuals and a gripping storyline, but the plot became convoluted, and character development faltered as the series progressed.

These series had the potential to be great but fell short due to various production issues or narrative choices.

I am still grieving for Kumo desu ga, Nani ka? such a good concept and omll Aoi Yuuki is a talented voice actress, but the execution is just so bad.

Sometimes anime are bad and nothing could have changed it.
Some other had a concept, an idea, a plot the gave them some potential to be a good anime but waste it all.

What I've spotted in my list:

Anne Happy: Concept: the cute girls have bad luck. It could have been a parody, a desacralization of the "cute girls doing cute things" genre by making the protagonists unattractive but funny with excessive bad luck. However the anime was too soft on that, except for the girl who always gets injured all the time, the other girls flaws are not enought to create even a small comical effect (being in love with the "work on progress" mascot WTF how is it bad luck ?)

Romantic killer: For the very same reason. A girl who doesn't want to be in a relationship is magically forced to and wants to use everything in her power to break it. No need to have a lot of imagination to think of what a girl can do to gross a man in order to make him leave and resulting hilarious gags. The most outrageous thing you'll get will be a ridicule pyjama...

Fire Emblem: If you have played the game, you already know what a well directed OVA could give.

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei: This anime is about an arranged engagement with a girl and a boy who is a mystial creature by their parents... but it seems they've already met. This plot had a big potential for romance and comedy... but it focus 90% of its screentime on the protagonist's sisters for cringe and lame moments. Man! it wasbooooring.

Re: Creators. When you take the plot "What if fictionnal characters would come to our reality" you have basically 2 choices:
- make a comedy and show funny situations when the fictionnal charaters are confronted to the real world.
- make a serious story that raises existantial questions like "if the worlds we can imagin and draw are alive does that make us gods ? What are our responsabilities ? Are these characters really alive ? Is it moral to use/kill them ? How can they influence the real worlds, in a good or a bad way ?
Re: Creators tyies to do both and none of them in the same time, resulting to one of the worst anime I've ever seen (I was confident at the beginning tho).
If the anime would have take one of these path below, it could have been one of the greatest.

Tsikihime: If the direction would have been more dynamic and the pace more engaging (among other problems), it could have been great.

Teppen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : Could have been great to have funny jokes and situation... for a comedy. The characters were great for the base; but the wrinting did not make me laught.

Tomo-chan wa onnanoko: The "tomboy childhood bro, wannabe your girlfriend" situation was a golden departure... but the execution...

- Saint Seiya the lost Canvas: too much was taken from the original Saint Seiya. Too much recycling to be fun. It could have been better with more original ideas.

I say (typically) the good shows have very few episodes. They usually just have twelve to twenty four episodes. The shows with hundreds of episodes are usually of questionable quality.

There's just way too many of those to mention. It's kind of an endemic problem for anime to adapt only part of the source material. And it is also pretty common for said source material to fall off in quality after a few chapters.

Wistoria Wand and Sword -> amazing animation wasted generic trope-filled shonen.
Ninja Kamui -> The one reason I don't watch seasonal animes weekly anymore.
The Ancient Magus Bride -> Amazing visuals and universe, but it just end up being bland and uninteresting.
Jigokuraku and CSM -> Bad adaptations that are unable capture what makes their source material so good.
The whole Rebulld of Evangelion except for the last movie.

First off, why tf Bleach in this convo ๐Ÿ’€ The anime is great and the Manga is even better, obviously amount of filler is a negative but other than that I dont see anything wrong with Bleach. I also see a lot of people saying Death Note in the comments, I agree with y'all that after Near was introduced the story fell off a little but it didn't not fall off that hard it was still good, I dont want to use MAL ratings but its rated a 8.62 which is very high so it definitely did reach its potential.

1. Yes I agree Promise Neverland was an insane flop after a great season 1, I wonder how they came up with the idea of skipping like 4-5 arcs and creating a power point presentation for the last episode lol.

2. Blue Lock s2 hurts as I was so hyped for the U-20 game to be animated and they FUMBLED THE BAG. I cant believe they rushed it and made these insane deadlines for the animators, ruin an anime because you want money, nice. They have done irreversible damage to the reputation of Blue Lock as it will always be clowned on, I waited 2 years for this disaster class of season 2 bro. Also I seen a video of soccer being played in Naruto and that shit was damn near 18 years ago and those shadow clones were moving way better then the characters in Blue Lock ๐Ÿ’€.

3. Ninja Kamui, cant believe people were hyping that up bro, that shit was soo mediocre and GOD DAMN was the anime boring as well.

Video of Naruto playing soccer for reference

I love Naruto with all my heart, but I could rant all day at the piles of wasted potential, wasted scenes, wasted character moments that could have been [and wasted characters that got no screentime], all the endgame ships except one. Akatsuki. Otsutsuki's that are interesting but got no buildup and are only explored in Boruto. And many, many more.

I don't think there is such thing as "wasted potential". Every show reaches its full potential, no matter how disappointing that potential may be.
