The official website of the Kidou Senshi Gundam: The Origin (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin) original video anime announced a three-part compilation movie on Monday. The trilogy will re-edit the six-episode original video anime with no new scenes or footage.

The 110-minute first installment, Char & Sayla-hen (Char and Sayla Arc), will compile the first two OVA episodes—Aoi Hitomi no Kyasubaru (Blue Eyed Casval) and Kanashimi no Aruteishia (Artesia's Sorrow).

The 120-minute second installment, Kaisen-hen (To War Arc), will compile the third and fourth episodes—Akatsuki no Houki (Dawn of Rebellion) and Unmei no Zenya (Eve of Destiny).

The 147-minute third installment, Loum-hen (Loum Arc), will compile the final two episodes—Gekitotsu Loum Kaisen (Clash at Loum) and Tanjou Akai Suisei (Rise of the Red Comet).

The trilogy will first premiere in Shinjuku Piccadilly in Tokyo on September 13, September 27, and October 11, followed by Shimane Cinema Onozawa on September 22, October 9, and October 23. Other theaters across the country will begin screening the trilogy on October 25.

Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the chief director of the original video anime, re-edited the episodes into a trilogy in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the broadcast of Kidou Senshi Gundam (Mobile Suit Gundam).

Produced by Sunrise, the six-part original video anime was released from February 2015 to May 2018. The 13-episode Zenya Akai Suisei (Advent of the Red Comet) television re-edit aired in Spring 2019. Crunchyroll streamed both anime with subtitles and dubs in multiple languages.

The anime series adapts Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's award-winning sci-fi mecha manga, which ran between June 2001 and June 2014 in Gundam Ace magazine. Kadokawa published the 24th and final volume in February 2015.

VIZ Media originally licensed the manga in English and partially released 12 volumes before canceling its publication. Vertical re-licensed the title in 2012 and published the complete edition into 12 volumes from March 2013 to December 2015.

Synopsis
In the year 0068 of the Universal Century, Casval Rem Deikun's life is thrown into chaotic disarray after the assassination of his father, a prolific figure in the crusade towards civil rights for people who live away from the Earth's surface. Casval and his sister Artesia receive aid from soldiers who were loyal to their father, and the siblings are whisked away from their home, separated, and thrown into a twisted fate that sees them come into their own as soldiers and adults.

Years before stealing the name Char Aznable or his "Red Comet" moniker, Casval must contend with the rise of a militarized version of his father's ideology and his own vengeful nature as intergalactic war molds him into a legendary mobile suit pilot. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

It's funny that this is the third 'cut' of the same anime being released. Hopefully it means they'll adapt the full Origin manga relatively soon.

@Ash_li I would be happier if they released completely new projects instead of repeating memes about endless alpha turbo super editions of Street Fighter. Seriously, dude. They don't even add new scenes to it.

Even by recap/compilation standards, feels extremely unnecessary.

already tried the OVAs, wich were great, the tv series wich cover 4 hours out of 6 (aka a downgrade) and the manga, wich is unnecesary considering the OVAs cover the only good part of it since the rest is almost as meh as 0079. unless someone hasnt tried the OVAs, its a must skip.

This seems to just be two OVA episodes back to back for Japanese screenings. If it's exactly that, it might not even get an international release (and I I feel that's for the better since the OVA makes it redundant).

Just curious I think they took the combined movie names from the Aizouban volumes?
EDIT: Yes, they match exactly in Japanese

It's not strange for Sunrise to re-release a series in a different format (series to movies or vice versa) but it's pretty strange that they've already done that with The Origin. Seems pretty redundant to do it a third time. If I feel the need to rewatch it once again then I'll end up going this route but other than that I don't see the reason.

I'd love to have a new Gundam. Better than no news, I am looking forward to this one.

An Origin style remake of the original series would be pretty cool but I guess that's still just a dream.

It's 45th Gundam anniversary, they are screening other Gundam movies in Japanese theatres.

So probably that's why they are doing it, just to add Origin to the bunch, no other particular reason or meaning.
