The mock battle between Noor and Gilbert, as famous as the latter is, the former has the grunt to literally parry everything, which Noor has to concede his loss before Gilbert loses his composure, after trying time and time again to force his most powerful attacks on him, to no avail. It may be out of conscience that Noor does it because of humility reasons, and yet, he feels like it's not enough.

Truthfully, the sword is good for clearing the ditch from the soil, though what's he thinking of using it for...is defintely NOT for fighting purposes. Lynne sneaking out her mansion discreetly to find Noor and request him to be her page, it just only brings more responsibility and trouble, not to mention the rejection of the teaching schools from before that he feels unworthy to teach her. And if telling her would not work, showing her is the only way, apart from Lynne hearing the rumours of Noor taking all Six Sovereign classes and failing everything in one go, which his powers show otherwise.

Still, if Lynne is determined to have Noor accept her as his page, being full of immaturity prior, it'll be a good learning experience.

I'm a bit disappointed that this "I'm weak" thing will be continuing on. I think the premise has potential, it can easily be about how a guy who never managed to learn new skills, takes them to their very limit. He finds he's actually quite strong for how much he's mastered what he has and then he can try to work on obtaining new skills even if unsuccessful. The structure of the show doesn't have to change that much, and the MC doesn't have to come off as insufferably dense. I enjoy a hard working humble character.

At first I was a bit frustrated with Noor's inability to recognize his own abilities, but then I realized something:

  1. Noor is someone who is incredibly stubborn. As is evident by his training the same skill for over a decade without success (from his perspective), so he probably won't change his mind easily if he's convinced, that he is weak.
  2. The opponents he has faced after getting stronger, (the Minotaur, Gilbert, Lynne) are all very strong, so his scale of reference is skewed.

Mc’s like Noor make me wanna parry his face with a sand filled wiffle ball bat.. He’s complained he’s whined, he’s bitched, he’s begged to become an adventurer. Now that he has the chance by either displaying his power again to the guild or by teaming up with shorty all he can say is “NO!”. “Sorry little lady, I gotta hide my power now that I can parry semi-trucks full of concrete traveling at 70mph”. “Plus I really just LOVE using my artifact sword to clean up the ditch line full of urine and feces around the entire town, the smell of it just really revs my engine!” Don’t get me wrong, I really do enjoy the show but good lord Noor just sucks all the joy out life.. 😂😂😂

Watching from MC's standpoint, I completely understand why he is dense, I mean clueless, ignorant. Bro literally spend his life being an F rank adventurer and mastering his basic skills. It was ingrained onto his brain that he is not good. He never understand the world yet, so it is understandable. Him being dense feels nice, not to the point like other characters being dense feels like forced. This guy doesn't seem like it after watching this episode. He is just ignorant. Only people with a literal quick-fused brain cells will be tired of him. I mean people with low patience. I understand them though because they never set their foot to MC's POV. They just rely on their POV on the MC.

Let's see on the future episodes if my case is right.

I thought I would see Noor's god tier parry abilities take him on a journey to build an S-tier with him as the Tank. Seeing him have op agility and magic abilities is making me really question where the story is really headed. Guess I have to watch the next one to find out.

This whole show would be over rather fast if main character just talked to people. ALL of the conflicts arise from him not communicating. It's also annoying that he's unaware of his strength. Sure, maybe once or until first encounter. Then it stops making sense, but they are stretching it quite a bit.

I found the ongoing joke in ep 2 pretty annoying so I thought I wouldn't go past ep 3, but now I will watch on bc it turned out to be a good episode.
The fight with spear guy and his whole thought process were really enjoyable and for the whole running time animation and atmosphere were on point.
MC is quite dense but hopefully his cluelessness will reduce in the next episodes.
@ichin No, please, I want him to stay dense. It is really funny. I love how this show keeps making ways for him to stay down on himself and underestimate his power lol. It's one of the few times where misunderstandings is fun for me in a show and doesn't piss me off. It's what makes this show special and it's the main attraction for me currently.

@SnowTV Then they suck at showing this because he seems to have selective low self esteem given how it shows him happy and taking pride in doing the small tasks for the villagers. So how come he can acknowledge praise from villagers for digging mud but can't from anyone fighting? It's just bad
@sodrainz Just because he thinks he is useless as an adventurer doesn't mean he thinks he is useless as a normal person and has to be depressed 24/7.

In Noor's mind, he thinks he is nothing when compared to literally any other "real adventurers", but he can still use his years of body training to help regular people in the town and feel fulfilled. He enjoys helping others, regardless if it's killing monsters or digging mud.

can anyone who knows the original material spoil for how long the mc will be an neutron star? I mean, the premise is good, but there is an limit for how much I can resist an mc like that, if he gets better soon enough it would be infinitely more enjoable to watch, as it stands, I can't.

@SnowTV I think you're just trying extra hard to justify the trash tier character writing. It's obviously just a one joke show like Cautious Hero but without the charm.

Even tho some of the characters are very dense, I can’t help but feel drawn to this show so far. Noor is just a very good person who only wants to be useful to others. I can relate to that. I look forward to it every week! Can’t wait to see how the next three episodes are.

@sodrainz If you don't wanna use actual logic and go with your feelings that's fine, but "charm" is subjective for everyone. I enjoyed Cautious Hero as well, it's just in that anime the goddess is playing the dumb role like Aqua.

So... dude has reflexes like Spiderman... I thought his training was just Parrying?

So he also have some other skills that isn't known... hmm...

(since he never trained reflexes, or trained with other people to improve that reflex... all he did was swing swords... so this must be a hidden skill or talent)

.

The most stupid part is... MC keeps on thinking other people are "holding back" and him using the sword that's worth as much as a kingdom as a poop shovel...

(imagine someone giving you a 100,000 dollar gold bar, and you just use it as a doorstop)

sigh... I hope this improves better where he isn't thinking like a 12 years old all the time...

BTW... the setting and the girl said MC has "gone through intensive learn course"... but how did MC not know the average power scale of magic if he's "learned so much"...

Sounds more like MC didn't really learn all that much eh?... (especially with his still 12 years old mind set...)

you would think he watched other people casting skills while learning... but apparently he's blind....

.

@SnowTV I will as soon as you do. You diagnose him as selectively depressed/selectively low self esteem. This is not a thing.

Charm is also only pseudo-subjective. Something described as charming or someone described as charismatic would, for the majority, be taken positively.

Noor lacks charm. He is an insufferable fool and written with the grace of a sledgehammer. And made worse by being surrounded by side characters that are also insufferably imbecilic.

Just the way I wanted it.
They're not skipping a beat; not skipping the action scenes and fully animating it with high precision which was rather nice to see again. Because of the bad and awful animation these days, as well as bad adaptations, this one is rocking the boat in a good way!

MC's normal and chill misunderstanding is not even at the very least annoying, I don't know about you guys, but he is being adapted like a genuine-to-honest man who only cares to care for other people.

P.S. Lynne's character design is so normal but her character is a bit fun to be with. I honestly can't imagine shipping her to MC, nor do I feel something like that in this series. But I feel like this series is just getting started and I can't wait for more quality episodes.

P.S. #2 The pacing is just perfect. (Read the source if you want but don't ruin our fun)

@HalvorzN if you're really tired of it, no one's forcing you to watch it, you know... 😆
You can stop anytime you want, unless you want to exhaust yourself some more. 😏
@CrazyButNot4U so I'm not the only one who is enjoying the heck out of this! Honestly, he reminds me so much of the people in the area where I live. Humble, selfless, sees helping others as a given not something to be rewarded for. Happy with his place in life. He's simple and yeah, a bit dense, but given his back story, it makes sense.

@sodrainz So people cannot acknowledge themselves being shit at doing certain things but still remain positive and try to find what they are good at? Is that your logic?

Yes, Noor is very dense. But he is still a good and humble person, which I believe many people can find him charming, as seen in this thread.

So...strong MC that thinks he's weak makes up for lack of natural abilities with insanely large amounts of repetition which leads to powerful physical abilities and being able to cast only super low level spells, but with incredible efficiency and power.

This is Shinmai Ossan Boukensha, but with less boobs.

@SnowTV There's a distinct difference between your claim of his trauma of rejection making him bottom tier self-esteem. If he was, it would not be selectively applied.

So no, you can't acknowledge you are good at some things and bad at other things going by your initial explanation of Noor.

The only acceptable reason Noor is this way is that he makes room temp IQ look like a genius and so watching him is like watching someone try to use their head to break a brick wall when there is a perfectly good sledgehammer in his hand.

He is not humble. He is a moron that is immune from any sort of self-critique or self-reflection. Permanently stagnant. That's not charming as evidenced by the fact you have to keep changing your argument about why he's r-tarded.

@sodrainz Ok bud, here's my original comment:

So all the people calling Noor "dense", y'all forgot how he tried his best (in fact, he tried so hard that no one believed it was true) but still got rejected by all 6 academies. So the "I'm a useless piece of s***" image of himself has already rooted so deep in Noor's mind it's just like how everyone knows when an apple leaves the tree it'll fall to the ground. It's just a fact for Noor and he is not even thinking about it one bit.

I guess I should've clarified that his "I'm a useless piece of s***" image of himself" is limited to "as an adventurer". I thought the anime is clear enough that regardless of his bottom-tier self-esteem as an adventurer, Noor still remains positive and tries to find every opportunity to help people around him. But no, you have to ignore everything else and just disregard a genuinely good anime character as an "r-word".

But please move on, all the people in this thread liking Noor must be wrong, and you clearly have a better understanding of this series.

@SnowTV And all the people hating Noor must be wrong. Literally the 3rd comment in this thread.

You also seem to lack a basic grasp of English because you literally say "rooted so deep in Noor's mind" making it a psychological diagnosis which is not selective.

So you've made like 3 different comments explaining some made up garbage trying to change the meaning of your original statement to try and handwave away that the writing is garbage, Noor is garbage as a result, and he's surrounded by characters that are garbage.

Selectively pointing out people liked it is meaningless but I guess you gotta go with it with your garbage explanation of Noor's selective emotional trauma. You the kind of person that says Ex Arm is good cause some people said they liked it.

The duel was pretty interesting but felt so disingenuous at the end. I hope they can duel more. I can't wait to see the former Sword Instructor see him in action. The page thing was to be expected but hopefully something comes of it. It did give some context to how much training he's done with flame I guess. I wonder if his basic healing is quite good as well.

@sodrainz And here you are twisting my words saying I commented about Noor's "emotional trauma". "Rooted so deep in Noor's mind" doesn't mean "trauma", it just means that he is treating his uselessness as a fact just like how we treat gravity as a fact. Do you get trauma knowing if you jump off a building you'll fall off? Knowing you cannot hover in the air after jumping off a building doesn't prevent you from walking confidently on the ground, is that such a difficult concept to grasp? If Noor actually suffered trauma, he would act all depressed and probably stop caring about other people, let alone helping them every day. But he isn't, right?

And I think everyone can agree that Noor is a stubborn person, maybe a bit too stubborn. That's why he endured all the training from all 6 adventurer academies, and kept practicing his only three basic skills after being rejected by every career, which is also the reason why his three basic abilities basically have super power now, hence the plot. And Noor's stubbornness definitely caused him to not realize his true power.

Alas, I don't think this discussion can go anywhere because clearly I "lack a basic grasp of English". Have a good day.

Something about this anime rubs me the wrong way. The "oohhh, I am so weak" bit only works for an episode or two but the MC has to realize he is competently strong. The minotaur fight felt off as well because It seems Noor does not know he was the one that took it down. I get that he grew up with a self percetption that he is weak and would no ammount to anything as an adventurer, but if you are being recongnized as strong then that would spark an internal discussion that, hey, maybe I am actually strong.

Lynne is alright. Maybe she is annoying, but the MC's lack of self awareness feels more annoying.

Am I the only one to have noticed that the master of the spearman, the one who challenged the MC, is exactly the same design as that Reiss Vulfe in Seirei Gensouki? It's horrible because I feel like we've reached level 0, where we can't invent anything anymore.

It's actually annoying how stupid this guy is. He literally sees people around him struggling to carry even a tenth of the weight he carries without breaking asweat, yet thinks himself weak. He sees the Royal Guard of a princess get wiped out by a minotaur, yet when he take sit down thinks it was just "some cow" and that he is weak for struggling. So the 6 metre tall bull able to speak and wield a weapon is "just a cow"? And the Royal Guard was wiped out by "just a cow"? How little brain usage does it require to come to this conclusion?

Gilbert isn’t as impressive as I thought, or maybe the training that Noor has done has risen him up to that level. Despite that, he was under the impression that Gilbert was holding back, especially during his signature move, Dragrave, which is faster than sound.

And as hinted at in the last episode, Noor is using that legendary sword to shovel dirt out of gutters faster than ever.

I did not expect Lynn to come ask Noor for training, and then after learning that he can’t do anything beyond the basics, she’s still trying to become this dude’s apprentice, and he’s simply not having it. He wants to continue living the life as an F Rank Adventurer. He doesn’t need riches, fame, or anything of the sort.

What kind of trouble will he get in now?
