| It's already a saturated market with plenty of dating services all competing with one another. Central governments have enough on their hands just about delivering public services as it is. A lot of the surrounding local governments to me in the UK are going bankrupt delivering social care to existing families, they don't have the money to build up more families. But engaging with your fantasy for a moment, they probably wouldn't want the potential culpability derived from matching serial killers/stalkers with victims and all the other associated safeguarding/crime problems that would arise from it which people would blame on the government rather than the private sector. The government would be expected not just to deliver this platform for communication and dating purposes, but also introduce continued moderation, this in my view would not only create a untenable cost but also likely create the problem of such a platform being stealthy used for data gathering and surveillance, infringing on peoples human rights (privacy, expression, thoughts/beliefs, marriage and family). In reality there are already organisations linked with governments/religious entities which promote marriage, and there is apparently some local government funding and matchmaking events in some countries in Asia that have concerns regarding birth rates or the family structure. The only fantasy timeline I see where there is government mandated dating service is linked with space exploration in the far far future or if there is a totalitarian dictatorship set on manipulating the population in certain aspects. For example only allowing type A citizens to date other type A citizens to narrow the dating pool so Type B citizens leave or die off. Enjoy the revolution. |

My experience with them was horrible, and if it was bad for me, then it was probably substantially worse for many others. The dating app companies are not incentivized to find good matches, as good matches means deleted apps, which means no money. A simple government-run app could run circles around Bumble, Tinder, or Hinge without any serious effort, and without a twisted profit motive could lead to better results for the users, their citizens. |
