Not really sure, specially as I haven't read the source, but at the very least the production quality should attract some people.

i think it will blow up as the first episode comes out considering it's clover works and i think it's just like wind breaker where there wasn't much as hype before it was released but I'm pretty sure it's going to be blow up just when it starts airing

I don't know but I do know the anime is gonna be sick asf cause CloverWorks is the one animating it. So we can expect great things.

Never heard about it, thanks for letting us know
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I don’t think so, it will gain some popularity for the beautiful animation for sure(and maybe the storyline but I haven’t read the manga to know) but it won’t reach assasination classroom level of success.
Also there is a cruel lack of promotion for this anime

The manga has been amazing so fqr

I have not seen/read his previous works before (I have to get on assassination classroom one of these days) but the mix of comedy and not sure how to call it but the comedic/horror faces and the fact that it's historically based while still retaining fantasy elements through superhuman feats and some supernatural elements rounds it all up really well

Every now and then they have a small textbox on how someone was potrayed in the history textbooks but, my favorite is where one person is only really known as the son of A, father of C and both have been extensively written down in history so there was a running gag based on that

That said, I don't think it'll ever reach the same popularity as assassination classroom back in the day but that's fine too. Not every anime fan would be particularly interested in a historical-ish manga. There's a general disinterest in actual history compared to certain aspects of it like katana and samurai but yea

Well, the show looked amazing in the trailers and the manga is good, but the series heavily relies on the history of Japan, which is way less accessible than AssClass, so I don't think it'll blow up as mich as AssClass. It will be good though.

Manga reader here, I don't think it reaches the highs of assassination classroom and probably won't be as big as it.
That said, it's still pretty solid and could definitely be significantly elevated depending on the adaptation.
Biggest hurdle might be the setting, especially for the western anime fandom Japanese 14th century history and politics might not be easy to follow.

I think everyone should keep their expectations low. The manga currently has a rating of 6.47, which is not a good sign. I've read a bit of the manga, and it's not anything special.

how many chapters did u read? I think just some few hundred ppl read like a few chapters and dropped it and gave it a low score so it looks fucked.
it's like the only well written action adventure on-going shonen right now

This honestly is one of the most underrated manga out there rn. It's so entertaining, fun and is an amazing critique of Shinto "Death before dishonor" morality.

@EtherLux 12 chapters and don't plan to read anymore of it. I'm just waiting for the anime now.

I've read up to about volume 7, but I thought...it would be harder to be popular than Ass Class...I thought.

I dabbled in the manga and it felt very childish with bad pacing. It captures the lamestparts of shounen. I could see children really enjoying this. Probably how it lasted in SJ so long.

No, the source material is very lowly rated at like 6.5 the anime seems well made tho, I hope the story is good tho.

I've read many authors/mangaka where they had one great work and also had a terrible/forgettable work in their catalogue so there isn't a guarantee for multiple works to turn out as well. Yuusei Matsui made a terrific manga which with the anime adaptation, ended up being one of the most beloved series for me ever (an anime I have watched a dozen times and enjoyed it even more with each passing watch). But Neuro, one of his other works, was really forgettable after its start and not one I craved to rewatch or re-read again once finishing them.

The setting so far in this anime is interesting and the animation side from CloverWorks with the premiere signals really impressive stuff happening there. But whether it is the anime or the manga for this particular series, the comedy absolutely sucks and the cast isn't as charming or fun as when I read/watched Assassination Classroom and while the tonal shifts worked in Assassination Classroom for the kind of series it was and the setup it had, the tonal shifts here are far worse to deal with. Suwa is an abomination just from the first episode alone, he absolutely ruined that premiere for me in some key ways. The first episode looks great but I don't know if this is a series I would put on the level of care/enjoyment that I had for Assassination Classroom for the other elements involved. This feels closer to Neuro territory but it's still too early to see if the anime can improve significantly or not.
