This episode was really good to end S1, though I feel episodes like 9 were better due to grilling my emotions more.
What sells this series is the couple, even for a romcom, they are at the top tier of couples that you just melt inside seeing their normal interactions.
Very few series manage some episodes that have you melt inside and become all fluffy and feeling fuzzy, full of sugar in your veins!
This anime had almost a scene if not more, per episode that was like this.
OPED are great in their own ways, rarely I skipped them, OP is so cute with Yamada air swing and catapulting Ichi, and that ED is soo adorable and PURE in those last 20 seconds!
Took me less than a day to watch all of this, and I think I binged from ep1 to episodes 8-9, and would have ended the whole season 1 in a single watch IF I did not need to sleep and go do stuff. Very addictive and wholesome~~
This is not the first anime with such an adorable couple, but for 12 episodes it was fully STACKED of adorable scenes.
I did some soul searching, looking back to my anime list, of things I adored and give me the fuzzy and endearing warm in my heart that this S1 did in spades (some can see this as recommendations, others as a reason why I still feel this anime is PEAK romcom for the pursuit of that oversweet feeling, where you melt like a pudding at each episode):
- Zero no Tsukaima had an adorable couple, but not in every episode I was cheering and feeling like I did here.
- Bloom into You couple was a more serious and mature approach to this I feel, the characters were more realistic, but it also had some insanely cute moments.
- Tsuki ga Kirei felt like this show for a while, but then had a lot of drama;
- Tonikaku Kawaii is a more chill show, like this, but more focused on comedy;
- Toradora has a great couple, but due to the characters, it felt very different from this show;
- High Score Girl has similar vibes, but it is CG and the girl cant speak;
- Kaguya same has to be the big one that I immediately recalled to after finishing this, S3 is the most recent entry of a romcom that had me feel that insanity amount of sugar in my veins;
- K-On also had a ton of cute moments, but it was less romance and more friendship;
- Spice and Wolf has a much more mature cast, thus the mood is different, but despite that, it as a lot of adorable scenes, yet due to drama, it is not like the show is an amalgamation of cuteness, you will feel bitter, depressed and worried, more often than in this anime;
I searched and searched, and despite all of the above, the closest I have felt when watching this anime, the feeling I couldn't get enough of (addicted to it), was when I was reading Relife manga, in the latter half you are bombarded nonstop with Chizuru unbearable cuteness, every time I finish a session of reading Relife I was so happy and cheerful.
Boku no Kokoro S1 felt like that in anime form, there are a ton of romcom, but the degree and density of adorable scenes, that pure and young romance that will never get old, even when you are a grandpa... one needs to see it to experience how relentless S1 of this is.
Of course, that alone can't make this the best shit ever, far from it, characters are not SUPER compelling, and the plot is nothing special, but it is a show you see for the interaction of the couple and the execution of those scenes if that is what you want the most, you will love this, if you want a more balanced experience, this won't be it.
So despite all my feelings above, I still can be a bit grounded and level-headed, but forever this will be that show I need to rewatch if I want to feel myself melting inside.
8.7/10 = 9

I will address that, from my PoV, yes I feel this is peak romcom, but in sense of what I love about them, overload me with CUTE SHIT till I my defenses are destroyed, yet when I look outside those scenes and to other aspects, this is not as brilliant as something like Kaguya same, it is just SUPERB in an aspect and if you in for that, you will need to stop and think a bit before giving scores, because the anime is that good, but is still not a masterpiece in a more broad sense of the word, very unbalanced.
