The first half of this episode is just heartwrenching. Godai seems to take the news calmly, until we see him dashing up the roadside fence. It's these moments that make MI's characters seem so human.

I hope Takahashi treats this arc's conclusion with equal seriousness. Her characters shine in these awful, sad moments. None of it comes off as angsty, as does most shoujo.

Wow Godai + 1, he took the news like a man only wishing her happiness. I thought he would freak out like usual but no I guess he is maturing which is nice.

So, so true. Maison Ikkoku does tragedy so well that I wish the comedy were much less prevalent. (I find it annoying rather than amusing. But I find the tragedy and drama... well... dramatic. And very well-done.)

Godai seems cursed in terms of roommates, or neighbours.

And I don't see why Kyoko was so surprised at the misunderstanding. Even in Japanese, the things she said pretty clearly indicated that she was the one getting married, or at least made it very easy to make that mistake.

If this was a spanish novela, I'd be very pissed ( because most misunderstandings don't get resolved until the climax or near the very end of the series and spanish novelas are so long), so I hope this gets resolved by the next episode.

I'm usually never bothered by misunderstandings, but this anime is on another level xD

Still has so many things I like and the drama is great.

There's a good reason Maison Ikkoku is #1 on my list of favorite anime shows.

Damn the misunderstandings are escalating quite extremely, but the thing I'm most worried for is Godai wasting his money to move places while he could have saved it for something else

LOL Godai and Ichinose-san are so stupid.

Ichinose-san was like ohh well she's getting married let me have a drink. She could have just asked Manager what the hell all of that is about and everything would have been over.

Godai's like you're getting married? then I'm out,my man is such a coward too, living with 2 Free Loaders in his damn house FOR 10 FREAKING DAYS!! without calling the police.

I started off enjoying Maison Ikkoku. But now at points I just find myself going, "what the hell?" Literally all the tenants of the house just want to start drama except for Kyoko and Godai. Mrs Ichinose is literally the worst, possibly one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen. She's the one who caused the marriage scandal but couldn't give a flying f*** about Godai or Kyoko's feelings. It literally is just misunderstanding after misunderstanding now. Hopefully, things get better quickly as the show is getting repetitive.

I enjoy the show, but I'm not really sure how good I can consider it at this point when over 70 percent of the stories are about misunderstandings that spiral totally out of control. The characters behave ridiculously.

Yeah, the show started out as something relatively fresh for me, but now it has become so rotten with the same recycled ideas and cliches. Sad.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I love this show but I'm getting sick of the rinse and repeats. The pinnacle of being impulsive. Came to see if others felt the same.

I like Godai but what a stupid and immature reason to move out. What a baby, geez. I thought part of the charm of this show was to emphasize how much the characters care about each other, and several times it's been made apparent that the entire boarding house cares deeply about Godai.
And yet for him to pack up and leave without saying a word because (hypothetically -- according to the rumor) the person he loved didn't love him back. And not even say goodbye?

At this point, I don't see why the other characters care about him so much. Godai's willing to cut ties with everyone he knows in a second if something doesn't go his way. I don't care how strong the love is, you're a douche if that's how you navigate life. He's obviously not a bad person, but he's selfish and literally has no interest in anything aside from the manager.

In the first episode, I can understand why he was moving out. But in this episode, it's completely unwarranted. And petty. Moving out because the person in his boarding house he loved might've been engaged. Honestly, is he gonna move away every time someone he has a crush on gets engaged?

I don't dish out 9-10 out of 10's very often, but I gave that rating to this show for its special charm, like no other show. For its novelty, execution, and niche. But like the folks above me have said, the cliche misunderstanding are getting pathetic. Like they're running out of ideas at the studio. I understand what they're striving for with this plot/arc, but it's completely ruined Godai's personality.

How could someone as petty/impulsive/naive ever qualify as a potential love interest for the manager. The age gap might be small, but mentally, the manager's like ten years older.

M'kay, rant over.

Ichinose’s eyes shrank this episode, guessing someone else drew her than usual. But besides that, damn this was a bit of a rough one, I think it was a good episode but this particular misunderstanding is painful, if only ANYONE bothered to ask Kyoko directly instead of just assuming then maybe this mess wouldn’t have made it past one episode. And someone in this thread is really pissed at Godai for up and leaving after hearing this news, but imo it’s understandable, even if Godai has warmed up to the tenants at this point I don’t think he has a big attachment to them, Kyoko is the main light in his life, and the fact she’s supposed to be with another man would make it very difficult to stay under the same roof as her, it’s an extreme reaction yes but I do get it.

But damn Godai’s luck goes to shit beyond this as well, he had to live in his new apartment with some freeloaders (I’m assuming, why the hell else would they still be there lol) for 10 whole days, and then Kyoko decides to visit herself when he wasn’t there, and now SHE’S caught in a misunderstanding too, and of course this is right after Yotsuya spills the truth to Godai, ooooohhh boy this next episode is gonna be a doozy lol.

And just for the record, I am enjoying this despite the issues, in a 96 episode series there are bound to be road bumps along the way, the drama is well done too even if the misunderstandings are avoidable. And lastly, I think I caught a Shinobu from Urusei Yatsura cameo with a pair of high school girls during one scene, funny that she can exist as both a preschooler and a high schooler lol.
