What do you think of this anime after we reached the halfway point of the season? Honestly, I haven't seen such a well-edited and impactful anime since the seasonal Heavenly Delusion, for me the direction, the animations, the music, the characters and even the story are all really well done in this product 🤯, the only criticism I could make and that perhaps in some parts it is a little slow in terms of narration, but for the rest I think it is currently the best of the season and what do you think? What struck you most about this anime?

You hardly watch anything from this season.
But yes, Sousou no Frieren is one of the best, but we also have shows like Kusuriya no Hitorigoto and Undead Unluck.

If anyone criticises this Anime they are either stupid, or just a braindead peraon who can't appreciate anything except permanent fight scenes. Sousou No Frieren is easily the top contender of 2023 along with Oshi no Ko. And that is just an objective fact. But we cannot forget Jujutsu Kaisens amazing performance despite the situation at MAPPA, as well as the teary ending of Attack on Titan, the face of new generation Anime.

It's decent, but I personally don't find it particularly outstanding in any way. Just a good fantasy story.

So I don't have any negative feelings towards Frieren and most of my criticism are just minor nitpicks, but I also wouldn't put it in the "best anime" category.

Fr, this is the best show for me this season. I wouldn't mind even if it takes AOTY. But that's gonna be pretty tough, because there are shows like Oshi no Ko, Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, Jujutsu Kaisen, etc. And there are also gonna be shows from the Fall season of 2022 like, Chainsaw Man, Bocchi the Rock. It's gonna be interesting.

Personally, I wish for AOT to take it. But I wouldn't mind if some of the other shows that I like take it.

I never rate series until completed so I'm undecided for the time being if this is a show I'll end up giving a 6/10 or 7/10 in the end. I hope it's one which remains closer to being a solid 7/10.

But either way, I wouldn't place it as my favorite or what I'd consider best of the season, which is The Apothecary Diaries, or of the year as a whole, which for me is between Tengoku Daimakyou and AI no Idenshi. I'd probably place it as third for the current autumn season. It may even, and likely will, make it into my Top 10 for the year, but at the same time I have a lot of 6/10s rating-wise for series this year.

Statistics don't lie you know? Just because you have a different doesn't mean you are ENTIRELY wrong. But you as a person must be able to rationally and logically understand the difference between opinion and delusion, which is usually very hard for the majority of this community.

It's interesting that these threads always attract haters of this anime. Anyone who enters this thread would think it is a very overrated work but the reality is that every aspect of this anime is outstanding, you have to be too much of a fan to not recognize that. PS: not everything you read around here is the absolute truth, there are people who love the series but just don't comment because they have other things to do.

Frieren has probably become my favorite anime in its short running time. Time will tell if it deserves its current spot. It's weird, cause I expect the rating to fall but not the quality - which is what matter.

Do we have to have the same question every single day from a string of account holders?
Some of us like it, some of us think it’s ok, some just put it down because it threatens their own favourite show. The replies show this every single time. The stats are there for all to see, just stop the relentless repeat of ‘Is it really best anime?’

@Badonkers what would best of all time be for you? Mine is Gurren Lagann, this is now nr. 2.

Also if you say FMAB you're wrong. Any other anime is valid, just not that one. it's well known it only in the top 50 because of bots.

It only got into the top 50, years after it's was released as well.

Frieren is 1# on MAL right now and is the only Anime along with Oshi no Ko that has done so, I am not implying that it is the best Anime of all time just because it's 1# on MAL right now, but it proves that it os the highest rated Anime right now. Frieren passed Doraemon on the all-time rating on a different platform than MAL which is a huge achievment. Frieren is also the cause of "resurrection" of the pure Fantasy genre. Meaning it has been at least a couple years since we got a such an amazing fantasy Anime. The rest should be rather self-explanatory if you've watched it.

@OPGMitaki none of what you said here explains how anyone who criticizes Frieren is stupid or just braindead who can't appreciate anything except permanent fight scenes nor does it objectively place the show alongside Oshi no Ko as 2023 aoty top contender.

This is a terrible take bruv. I agree that Frieren is absolutely amazing. My mind has been blown throughout this whole season so far. But to say one can’t have criticisms of it is absurd lol. Objectivity isn’t a metric we can use for peoples feelings and opinions. Your point doesn’t make sense.

The four episode premiere was really rough cause of how slow and boring it was. I see why those chose to get it all out of the way.

After that it's fine. Just a shame it's been hit with the myanimelist curse and forever had its image tarnished by the boosting and bombing

@OPGMitaki Without taking side, this is quite bad argument.
Firstly, you almost randomly chose a website and you talked about the rankings there, because that would prove your point. But on other side, that's not the case. For example, on Anilist Sousou no Frieren is top 7 without passing FMAB. While Oshi no Ko is top 32, without passing SnK last ep or JJK S2.
Secondly, to have the effect of "resurrection" of something, it does not need to good or that good. Great example is SAO, which is caused this whole isekai-MMORPG-fantasy combination to be that popular, while SAO itself wasn't that great.

The first four episodes (especially the first two or three) were to me by far the best part of the show so far and I honestly liked them a significant bit more than what came after thus far in terms of the atmosphere crafted. It actually lent an impression to me that it would be a slightly different show than it is (or has shown to be up to now since the end of those early episodes), which (what it has been since) is a little more bouncy or frantic in energy (not to an extreme like some series, of course, and thankfully) and a little more action-heavy.

But then, I'm someone who genuinely doesn't get and rejects in full all the litany of complaints which are always thrown the way of the first half of Steins;Gate and found myself more critical of and less able to fully enjoy the second half or later 11 or 12 episodes by comparison.

Well, the rating descriptor for 7 on the numerical 1 - 10 scale on MAL is "Good". I take it literally and consider anything that I rate a 7/10 like the average good of everything I have seen. Most series I end up rating a 7/10 or a 6/10. Preferably a 7/10 for obvious reasons. I don't rate too many things an 8, 9s are rarer still, and 10s are of course the rarest, because I don't like to too cheaply dole out and devalue those higher ratings. And I don't rate too many things lower (have some 5/10s, but 4s are rarer, etc. the lower you go down and I don't have any 1s), because I tend to have a strong sense of what I'll like to some extent in advance so don't watch too many things which I feel I'll end up disliking heavily.

I was talking about my Top 10 for the year, not in general, and, for example, in this year, I literally only have one series which I rated as high as an 8/10. Everything else is 7/10 or lower, so everything apart from that one in my Top 10 will be 7s or even lower 6s. Actually, the series I may end up giving my #1 slot for the year is something I have rated as a 7/10.
