What was your first impression when you first ever saw anime? (As in ever, your whole life seeing the artstyle or a specific show)

New
POV: You just saw your first anime. How did you react?

My first reaction to anime was being really amazed by the artwork and how detailed it was compared to other series i watched, then by how violent and borderline sexual it could be. I think i said something like "Wow, i've never seen anything like this on Spongebob before!"

Also, have to mention, my first time seeing Mai Valentine, i was about 5-6, i was completely taken aback by her beauty.

My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

I love it immediately, just so fascinated by its music, art style, and the story, etc.

I didn't even know those certain shows were anime when I was a kid, but I sure liked them a lot. I mean, all the stories, characters, OSTs, and everything else was just so cool.

I was also probably 4/5 years old, I couldn't identify it was anime and just think of it the same as other cartoons. Cartoons = for kids = my show, so I loved it.

First time I saw anime was when I was a kid and used to watch toonami. I didn't know that I was watching anime but there was an odd appeal to it that distinguished it from other cartoons and I used to absolutely love it. If someone asked for my favorite show including cartoons back then when I was a kid, I would have picked an anime without knowing it was an anime. That's how much appealing they were.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

I was like 7 and it was Pokémon. The Japanese style of art didn't stand out to me too much as a kid as I had been kinda exposed to it through American animation inspired by Japanese animation, with Avatar the Last Airbender being a good example.

I don't remember my first thoughts of anime as back than I was thinking of it as of Polish cartoons, due to them being in TV and being dubbed. [It was around 2005-2006 so when I was 6-7]

When I first encountered anime as an anime [subs with original audio], which was Bleach well... My profile should be enough to tell you how much I did enjoy it, especially that I still watch anime till today. [Around 2007, so when I was 8]

I remember that moment perfectly, the first representation of an anime I saw was Lum from the anime Urusei Yatsura and I just thought: "Oh wow, I like the design of this drawing, but I think she's missing clothes xd"

Elfen Lied being the first anime I've ever watched and since it was so long ago, kind of hard to remember how I felt.
But going back to remember what kind of person I was, I probably thought it was hot and cool. Don't remember what made me want to see more but I know I watched Grenadier not long after. Damn these old classics, should re-watch some.

Nothing special, just foreign cartoons. Remember loving the intro and outros of Sailor Moon and Digimon. Dragon Ball Z I remember watching the final fight with Freeza.

I instantly enjoyed what I saw, even though I had no idea that the stuff I was watching was different to regular cartoons. I was a kid back then, haha. That being said, I liked the aesthetics, atmosphere, direction.

I didn't know it was anime at the time. I was a child and I only came across some episodes on tv. I just thought they were cartoons ('They' being like Naruto, Pokémon, Sailor moon, Inuyasha).

My first experience knowing it was anime was after I read the manga for fruits basket then saw the anime on Netflix. So I judged it pretty hard because I was a huge fan of the book.

My first anime where I went in with nothing was Darker Than Black. I was amazed at the creativity of the show and really liked that being 2d meant they could do more special effects without limits. To this day, I think the highlight of anime is that it IS animation. You don't have to think to hard about whats possible or 'realistic' (Like poses in JoJo). Since its not live action there's nothing to compare it to visually. (Also things like gore, hate it in live actions but love it in animation) Its also easier to get lost in the world of whatever you're watching because your not trying to relate it to our own.

I'm also autistic so I kinda understand anime better than live action because the expressions are more obvious and they give us more internal thoughts. Not to mention weird personalities and extreme exaggerations just kinda work in animations, I notice a lot of live actors have a hard time being extreme unless its insanity.

Anime is fun and can tell the story better (IMO). I watch a lot of live actions as well, I do think they're good, just not as good as anime lmao.

I was a child and it looked just like any other cartoon to me, so I had no real thoughts regarding it.

And it was the heavily censored 4kids version of dragonball z so anything that could possibly corrupt my young mind was absent, it was just two buff dudes punching each other.

I didn't know it was anime so I didn't put much thought into it as a kid but I did think that it was pretty nice and enjoyable.

I really loved Dragon Ball back in the day. That said, it was just another cartoon I enjoyed along with stuff like Spiderman and X-men.

My second anime confused me a bit.
I wasn't expecting so much melodrama, darkness and (later I realized) a form of incest from a sci-fi movie supposedly targeted at kids (goofy characters, a la Disney songs ect.) - Hi no Tori 2772: Ai no CosmoZone https://myanimelist.net/anime/2793/Hi_no_Tori_2772__Ai_no_CosmoZone

But that's Tezuka for you.

Pretty much the same here, if we're taking about Dubs on TV during dial up/pre high speed internet.

Didn't know the difference, just watched it alongside other cartoons. But DB and DBZ along with Sailor Moon were favorites, and Pokemon too

I'm not sure I remember. I know I liked Doraemon and that was one of the first anime I've ever watched second to Inuyasha.
