There is much more variation in male body types in anime. There's not just super steroid men like the ones you've shown. Very commonly you see skinny guys, standard bodybuilder build guys, guys with a bit of tone but who aren't shredded, guys who may be a bit chubby, guys who are short, guys who are super tall, guys with long hair, guys with short hair, guys with facial hair, guys without. Women don't really get the same variety and its always the same hourglass shape usually with gigantic breasts.

I'm not for sure how much anime you've been watching. But there are plenty of variations to body types of girls in anime than just big breasts. Unless the issue is just that there isn't much attention given to those other body types as far as sex appeal. Of course, there are very few jacked female characters in anime. But you wouldn't really see women in real life who are as muscular as men unless they were taking steroids. And I think fat female characters in anime are given just as less attention compared to fat male characters. They aren't exactly characters that are given the best representation compared to ones that are in shape.

I am sure there are plenty of other manga and anime series outside of the mainstream shonen series that do this well, hell some even in there do an ok job, but from my experience most really don't and this isn't just a thing in Japan, Western comics and animation falls victim to the same trappings |

Men tend to look at jacked dudes as a source of motivation, whereas women are more prone to get jealous.
And then that just turns into basically glorifying ugliness at the bottom of the slippery slope...

Guys when seeing a muscular character like Goku, Jotaro, or Baki may become inspired to pursue exercise and physical activity since you can realistically work on bulking up your body with the correct exercise routine and diet while with female characters, the external factors such as breasts, facial structure, and other attributes are those that you are born with and can't change without cosmetic surgery. These popular common depictions of characters of these gender identities trending towards these attributes leads to different feelings due to societal gender norms and the fact that what is considered generally attractive for guys is something that can be worked towards while for women it's really RNG. The one argument I do not understand is "glorifying ugliness", could you help explain what you mean by that? |

| @LSSJ_Gaming Come on, while women can't train boobs, but generally being healthy and fit is still going to improve the look a lot, and the booty can be trained. Besides, most of the stupid and unhealthy beauty trends aren't even for men, but other women... Same for men body building beyond a certain point... And as for that comment, consider the body positivity movement. Trying to promote morbid obesity as not only beautiful but healthy is messed up. Plus there are some people who expect the world to just accommodate them for free, such as getting free plane seats because they can't fit into one. |

| I think it kind of depends on the series. For me, hot female characters usually don't improve an overall anime dramatically if they have very little screen time, and if the focus of the anime is meant to be on the story, plot, themes, etc. rather than the sexiness of the characters. If they have a lot of screen time though, then I do see that making the anime better. If one of the main focuses and selling points of an anime is on the hotness of the female characters, then yeah, their presence does make the anime much better in this case as well. |

In fact in most cases depending on the type of Anime one is consuming, suddenly injecting characters in a story that one could imagine to come off as promiscuously 'Hawt' just for the sake of throwing in a bunch of sex object could have a negative effect on viewers. It would be like watching an Anime with an extremely wholesome cast of characters like "Girls und Panzer", which is not suppose to be sexual in nature at all, and then suddenly dumping a bunch of 'Hawt' characters in to the story like Mylene Hoffman from "009-1", Adult Aika Sumeragi from "Agent AIKa", Lucifer from "Seven Mortal Sins", or even a Leina Vance from "Queen's Blade". While I like the characters I have mentioned above and enjoy the franchises they all come from, I wouldn't remotely enjoy an Anime like "Girls und Panzer" the same if they tried to sexualize it in such a cheap way by suddenly injecting 'hawt girls' into the story simply for no other reason than the sake of injecting a bunch of sex objects into it. |
