I started watching anime's a couple of years ago. At that time I liked anime because they are really exciting and interesting and I loved them. I got addicted to them and I'm watching them ever since.
After watching for some time and spending countless nights in anime I realised that it's not that I just watch anime because they are very interesting and amazing but the reason was that I was living my ideal life in anime. I was seeking happiness in virtual world of anime. It's just that the main reason why I watch anime is to escape this crap reality. I know maybe a lot of people or to say anime fans will get me what I'm saying afterall you all know that how trash this world is. I imagine living the life of anime character and I have dreams about it. Maybe it is all unusual what I'm saying but it's true for me. What about you guys? I would like to know.
My sincere thanks for reading this.🙇😌

Because it's easy to find online compared to other media and I always took interest in other cultures and I like the art style of a lot of anime and grew to enjoy the style of storytelling that appears in various anime covering topics you dont really see so much in Western media in such ways. Also a way to distract myself for a short while.

Well, a big part of it is just how much the media has to offer (so many genres to explore and shows to watch). But I suppose that's pretty obvious.

But honestly, one of the main reasons I connected with anime so much was the community that came with it. As problematic as the community can be, it was really nice to have a place, even if online, where I felt I belonged. Frankly, I was an awkward and lonely kid, I've always had trouble making friends and fitting in, most especially in my former years in middle school (which is when I first found anime). So to find this cool little online community full of people who were just as weird as I was, and who were accepting of my weirdness, I got super attached. Of course, the anime community isn't so little anymore, but I've found it still holds its sense of community despite that!

starting to wonder if I'm losing my interest in it tbh. I've only watched a tiny handful of new anime this year, and it's not like I don't have the time for it either.

idk man

I think it is either to escape from bad emotions or to seek the good ones.
Everyone want to experience the beauty of the world and when it is not possible in the reality fantasy come to the rescue stimulating the imagination, the more your life is sad and empty the more your brain is willing to experience made up scenarios.
There are interesting psychological approaches trying to explain people showing "chuunibyou" traits.
I've spent quite some time around people with not so common imagination and I found often that they have suffered a lot.
Ok but why anime and not books/manga, movies, games? well they often do in fact consume those too. It is possible that has roots with positive childhood memory a gateway somewhere sometime when the world it seemed a better place or for specific situations that are recalling specific memories.

Anime has a special place for me because it’s such a large medium with so many options to choose from for me to watch and a place that I can escape to. There’s so many aspects that I love about the anime medium, and I appreciate all of them which is why I love anime as a whole. It’s brought me a lot of joy and change and is a great source of entertainment and fun unlike whatever the hell is being summoned up in the US with some exceptions, and it’s a serious hobby but is also my favorite hobby for me.

There’s also manga and light novels, not as experienced with those as anime but I also love them.

Umm.... I grew up with anime with Taiwanese Mandarin dubs with subtitles on recorded VHS that my father gave to me by batches. And some with only Mandarin dubs. TLDR, I grew up with 90s children anime, so it's natural for me to like anime more. Never grew up with Disney animated films.

Anime has tropes/genres/situations that I like that aren't prevalent in my country's media.
Escapism also I guess? although not quite as much as some previous years for me.

Anime has the best looking girls of any medium, and watching anime is fun. Simple enough reason for me to like it. It often shows greater creative freedom than any other medium too not limited by morality or blackrock pandering.

It's fantastical and can convey storylines and visuals that live action film can't... I guess?

And also it brings out the inner child in me.

When I was much younger I was in a similar place as you. Anime felt like the medium I could escape to. However, now I don't feel like that's how I see anime. At this point, I've been watching it for so long that I've seen so much crap and lukewarm stuff. But it's the special gems of anime that kept me around. The feeling I get when I stumble upon something new that could evoke a emotion or memory or thrill keeps me watching. Even if most of it is crap. For instance, I recently felt pulled into the quiet world created in Kino's Journey, and anime like that keep me around.

Honestly? It's just a habit at this point. I've been watching anime for 20 years. Literally every single one of my friends are from anime related communities. I do take some breaks, because I'm interested in several other things, but currently I'm quite confident I'm gonna watch anime till the day I die.

Because I have ran out of anything western worth watching.
Anime has many derivative stories like Hollywood, but at least it's not woke.

Same reason I watch anything else. Movies, TV, cartoons, it’s all just interesting media to me.

I don’t think I have any deep meaning for it. Though I will say I definitely just read manga more often than reading anime. You start to realize how much the anime leaves out when being adapted. Plus it’s just a lot faster to read a manga, and it’s usually ahead anyway.

I guess I can say I also am swayed more by “fanservice” for anime/manga. You don’t really have that in movies/TV unless you count watching something due to a hot actor/actress, which I’ve definitely done.

I started watching anime about 15 years ago. The stories and animation are often more fun than those in Western media. I've always liked animation but unfortunately the West at some point decided animation is for kids by default while Japan didn't have that mindset. Sure you've had more adult animation in the West the past decade than before, some of which I also enjoyed but a lot of those go really hard to show they're for adults, with some going a bit overboard.

I also like the general length of anime episodes being around 23 minutes. Not that I can't enjoy Western series from time to time, but unless I think something's really good I find 45 minutes per episode a bit too long.

Back in 2006 when I first found a few anime on TV it just had me shocked that there were "cartoons" that felt more fun, mature and or relatable. Seeing the fun wacky but realistic shows like School Rumble to Gurren Lagann with its giant mecha's throwing galaxies and giant galactic explosions wasnt like anything i've seen from western cartoons on TV. As I grew up watching them they were just more complete stories than western shows and had a better depth of feeling to em. I say I watch em now because ive been watching anime for so long I just lovd the style of characters, attachment, the more deep stories they tell and how they al most have no limit to what they can do.

hmm I think I started watching just for fun.. and I kinda still watch it just for fun!

however a big reason why I continue to watch animation in general is that I do appreciate all the work that goes into its creation. I'm a watcher that likes to pay attention to details, from the color, va, script, etc.

Because it’s not American.

Growing up in a fucked up inner city school surrounded by thugs and bitchy christian women and hearing about mass shootings every other fucken day as well as the never-ending war-mongering this country does I slowly grew to hate the narcissistic barbarism of American culture. And in turn, became fascinated by the easy-going livelihoods and intellectualism of Asian and European countries. Ones with no rampant gun crime and free-thinking, rational individuals. And I adore and have much admiration for these societies. In my fascination I discovered anime.

I find anime to be a good social deterrence.

I knew before going into anime that the community had a certain reputation. Since I was sick of toxic Western society and wanted to distance myself from it I figured associating my name with a community known to be socially awkward, unpatriotic pedophiles would be an excellent shield to use to deter conformist normies from wanting to invite me to engage in there toxic “fun”. It's why half of the shirts I own have sexualized loli artwork on them. If you prefer a life of solitude then making people think you’re a pedophile is one of the best methods for making people think twice about wanting to befriend you. No way one of you money-grubbing cunts will want to choose me to bleed dry of all my assets when I wear a shirt glorifying "virtual child porn".

I’m sure most bitches and masculine chuds would agree.
