We all know that Asu e no Houkou is the best song in anime history but what did the poor folks in 1986 were listening to? The answer is Pegasus Fantasy, a great song to hype up the anime and enhance the watching experience.
So what do you think, is this as good as Asu e no Houkou?

Please don't tell Lucifrost about this.

1980s had a lot of shows that had absolute bangers as their opening and ending themes. Saint Seiya was one of them. Apart from those themes, the band that made them (Make-Up) also released other cool songs related to this franchise.

Apart from very good sounding OPs and EDs, Saint Seiya can be easily marked as one of animes with the best soundtracks that have ever been released. Seiji Yokoyama did a wonderful job as a composer of songs for Saint Seiya OST.

Yeah i think it is. I really like the English version of Pegasus Fantasy that they remade in 2019 titled Pegasus Destiny.

I do not know what Asu e no Hokou is, but I would say that it was popular, along with Makafushigi Adventure, Ai wo Torimodose and later Cha La Head Cha La. If anything, I would compare them to what Butterfly, Shining Days and even Drivin' Through the Night were during the 2000s.

Absolutely agreed「Drivin' Through The Night」is a fire banger from the early 2000's.

Why did you have to post a crappy number instead of the theme some of your own waifu? By the way, the 80s music feels so dated.

It's the opening song for a PC game called Muv-Luv Alternative that used to be really popular back in the day, and still can be heard when someone mentions hit anime songs. In some way, I have an impression it's become even more popular and iconic than the game itself. There are quite a lot of people familiar with the song, but not with the visual novel game from which it originates from.

There is also Muv-Luv Alternative anime, based on the game with the same title. However, I don't know if any of its installments used it in any way. I haven't seen it mentioned as either OP or ED theme for this show.

Here's the song, by the way:

Thanks. I see what he means, I personally prefer Mazinkaiser no Thema, when it comes to themes, but I know it is somewhat obscure.

Is definitely the more iconic one, but as you can all guess based on my username, I prefer the 2nd opening, and despite playing mostly through the 90s, DBZ's Cha-la Head-cha-la is much more of a banger.

The way both songs were written for lame stories is indeed similar.

I've never heard of this song outside the context of Catalano's threads.

Yeah, Asu e no Hokou's popularity used to be higher than today, but even years later the tune itself sounds familiar to many anime fans. Especially those who have started their adventure with Japanese animated series around of before the day of Muv-Luv Alternative's premiere.

Oh, understood. Well, it used to be quite popular back in the day. A decent number of AMVs have featured that tune, and many people were familiar with its sound. But to be fair, from what I remember myself anyway, a lot of folks could hum Asu e no Hokou or react to a clip with it, however, less of them knew the actual title of this theme, haha.

Depend on what it is:

Ew, where is the bass line? Nonsensical scream, just like Battle Shounen protagonist does. Which kind of stadium crap is this? For which are they fighting? The sudden hyping doesn't make sense.

Haven't heard "Asu e no Houkou" nor did I know about its existence till now. But "Pegasus Fantasy" is definitely a theme song that I could see being a hit for today's anime fans. The problem, of course, is the age of the anime since most newcomers to anime likely won't know of it.

Sounds generic 80's pop music video which also fails to properly sexualise the waifus.

Watch Odin: Starlight Mutiny to understand. Not a great film, but worth your time.

They had 8 minutes of my lifetime to pack everything they needed to say in the lyrics and offer a listenable cut, but ultimately failed miserably to deliver, yet you told me it was obligatory to watch a movie to understand a musical number? WTF?

And why do I have to let you order me around? Why are you so bossy? Are you American?

You do not whole film, just the opening scene. Please pardon if I came across as bossy, I did not mean to sound like that.

I don't believe I have to judge a musical piece in association with any kind of animation work. Lyrics and its respective expression are enough.

Please pardon if I came across as bossy, I did not mean to sound like that.

It was meant to be sarcastic, but pardon me if it somehow upset you.

It did not upset me lol. I could not tell if you were joking at first (what too much time on another internet forum full of bickering does to you).

P.S: I am a burger and we are as fat as you think (I am considered skinny and overweight at the same time).

Pegasus Fantasy will always be one of my favorite openings of all time, Saint Seiya really knew how to have a good opening. So did Fist of the North Star and City Hunter.
If I had to choose between One Piece and a girlfriend...I think I'll go with One Piece
