I have just finished reading the manga and to be honset i think i have never cried so much over a story but its because of my mixed emotions. I cant express how weird I feel but lets get to the point. Kaguya sama has been my fav anime for some time now and I finally got opportunity to read the manga which i always wanted to do. I had fun reading chapters that were left out in the anime and i truly was in love with what ive seen. After the ice kaguya arc i was so hyped for the concept that the series would continue the same way, presenting funny scene with the student council. Morover i was positive we would get the same kaguya vs miyuki mind games but in terms of what a couple should be doing. even if we didnt i wouldnt mind as long as it stayed true to what the series was before that part. first 20 chapters were just like i imagined, i was so geniuenly thrilled. But as i read more and more i began to have some doubts. The first one was the hayasaka arc which seemd WAY out of the context and way to serious for a series like kaguya sama. But oh it only got worse. What the hell is even the shinomiya family arc. However i would try to look at it from a positive angle i cant grasp anything reasonable and adequate to the story. How series can change from comedy to drama in a span of few chapters? The whole con ept was absurd, few teenagers facing multi-billionaire family. The absurd doesnt end there, hayasaka skating with fujiwara trying to escape some dudes, miyuki and kaguya hopping on a helicopter??? shinomiya members were patheticslly written too. I just feel so so disappointed. When i started reading, i was just hoping to see more school like miuyki and kaguya or ishigami and miko action. Maybe im just failing to grasp something and someone could tell me if their on my side of if they actually think that manga doesn't drop in quality. Honestly i wish i had never read this.

TLTR: My favourite piece of media turned out to be disappointment, shinomiya family arc and almost everything after chapter 180 sucks (not the ending)

I kind of agree with you. Only a little, there was a period of time I didn’t like what the manga was doing either. (After the Hayasaka arc). But i realized that I liked the characters so much that I didn’t mind it becoming a more full drama manga. I wanted to see these characters improve and move forward with their lives. Then when it ended I teared up because it felt like when your friends and you leave and stop having the same good times you used to. Kaguya-Sama managed to put into a manga what I can’t put into words, which is the pleasure and pain of people you love stumbling through life. These types of stories and manga are never my thing, but I think it did enough comedy and character building at the start to really make a drama type plot work in the end

You are indeed right!!!

The manga became shit around chapter 180 onwards!!!

Sure there are good chapters beyond 180 like Kaguya's visit to the Shirogane's,
ABC, & the last few Kaguya/Miyuki focused chapters but besides that,

Its been meh!!!

It doesnt help that we dont have a proper back story nor at least few appearances of Miyuki's mother as well!!!

& too much chapters were wasted on Ishigami's love polygon too which imo has gone way too long & overdramatic!!!

From 160 onwards,

The quality obviously dropped & i wonder how A1 will handle that in the mere future if they adapted the rest of the manga!!!

Most Kaguya-sama fans that started to read the manga thought the same thing, I really enjoyed the dramatic part of it, and in my opinion those arcs are pretty good if you count character developnent. I think what Aka Akasaka wanted was to show everyone that Kaguya-sama is more than just a series of mind games between the main couple, if that was his objective, I'm more than satisfied.

But I don't mind if you didn't like how the manga had turned out to be, I was also kinda sad, because comedy is my favorite genre, and seeing it almost vanishing from my favorite show was confusing.

I agree. It was my favourite manga for a long time, but then there were a lot of disappointing arcs back to back

I agree as well. I still liked it but it was way better beforehand. Really Tsubame’s party and Ice Kaguya was when I started to notice change. It felt weird how a lot of characters just became very preachy too.

I really enjoyed the manga it was probably my favorite piece or media in general up until the shinomiya family arc which on its own was not that good but because i really loved the characters i found that the arc was readable and that overall didnt ruin the story for me and honestly i likes the drama but it felt like aka akasaka was rushing through it and the whole arc just felt kinda rushed.

I actually think the Shinomiya arc was necessary to some extent. Kaguya’s family history had always been foreshadowed as being somewhat dark. I agree though that the absurdity of it was a little overblown; would’ve been better had Kaguya/Miyuki outsmarted the older brothers via finding a loophole in her father’s will, or something more calculating that didn’t require all of the weird antics. Still a 10/10 imo but I can get why it would disappoint some people

I 100% agree with you to the utmost degree. The quality if the manga substantially drops. Love is war is built on emotional pay off so when kaguya and shirogane getting intimate is completely offscreened, kaguya starts acting out of character to give someone else a gag, and character interactions get worse like ishigami/ino and shirogane/ino. Its a damn disappointment. Man I wish the author handled the politcal plot line better and ishigami and ino.

Yeah, I felt the drama pile on of the (what was it 15 chapters are so?) was overkill but it ended on a good note so I was relatively happy
I will say though that comedy in manga is hard and if a series wants to be more than a 4koma it has to bring some drama to it
What redeemed it for me in the end is the time and care the author took in bringing the series to a close, that took real commitment and I appreciated that.

Only the shinomiya family arc was mid and that osaragi arc was also decent otherwise it was wonderful manga and even the ending was fun except miko and ishigami conclusion.

I meannnnn aka aksaka was writing two mangas at the same time but at the end he concluded the manga nicely but the hayasaka arc was such a curveball from previous arcs

Yep. The manga fell off hard. Still gave it a 7 tho. Good read overall

Everything feels like it also ended too easily in the Shinomiya arc, almost like the author just wanted to get it over with.

I can definitely understand your dislike of these arcs, as the manga takes quite a turn, but I don’t think that it was a complete 180. Personally, I think that while it did get very weird, there was some setup for it to begin with. The Shinomiya family is set up as a huge deal and its actions were already showed to be restricting Kaguya’s life. Because of this, she would not be able to move forward and create a life of her own, and because her family is such a massive force in that world, she had to go big or not at all to confront them. However, I definitely concede that it got quite strange at the end, and I can see why it would put someone off who otherwise would have enjoyed the manga.

*trigger and spoiler warning*

Manga should have ended like 13 volumes ago. Ever since it became about ishigami and miko and becoming less funny that it went from a 9 to an 8 at best. Ishigami and miko pretty much went nowhere and was really not that great OR memorable in the long run. Series peaked at ice kaguya arc ngl, after that, I’m glad kaguya and shirogane had sex but that’s about it.

100% agree, i feel like they should have handeled miko and ishigami a little bit defferent, faster? and actually give the readers a proper ending to their story

Ishigami and ino was dragged on for farrrrr too long. And for what? Just an ambiguous ending that they get together? And we never even see them kiss??? I never liked ino that much, and it felt like they focused on ishigami’s past way too much. It was a forgettable, unsatisfying romance imo, that unfortunately took center stage in kaguya and shirogane’s own manga after vol 15.

I own the physical manga and actually like rereading vol 1-15 still (despite viz’s translation choices on some parts), it’s still very fun and cute. But after vol 15 man it gets boring, and you can tell ayasaka didn’t have a plan and tried to make the series a little funny again near the end when people realized it got boring I’m assuming. It’s a good romcom, still better than most, but when it became more rom drama and showed less of their main couple is when it became so disappointing. The ending was good, not the greatest, but after so many boring vol it just made me feel “ok.”

For me, it went downhill right after the confession (chapters 132, something like that?). There's still a few interesting chapters here and there, but not worth it overall.
Love is War is what happens when the author makes its work drag on to milk it AND decides to give up on the premise AND loses inspiration but has to keep releasing one chapter per week because that's his daily job.

That said, if you loved even just the first part of Love is War, I highly recommend Oshi no Ko. It's weird, but it has the same vibes as Love is War (it's from the same author) and it's mind-blowing in terms of story. At least for now.
Everything changes. Even the happy and funny things eventually disappear. How can I still enjoy this place then?
