It's like a mix between Aria (atmospheric and slow paced) and K-ON! (character designs). I like it.

Kind of this. Love how it seems to be a combination of my 2 favourite Slice of Life series. :D

Production values were great(so this is where the Fairy Tail budget went), the setting and premise unique and I liked the characters.
I get the feeling thatYuki Noel will probably be my favorite character. Lol'd hard when she was the only one enjoying Kanata's performace in the ED. XD

Well I'm intrigued, and I'll be sticking with it at least for a bit. Based on the comments here, I think it's safe to say that the characters all seem to have been pulled from somewhere else, but I don't think that means they will be bad characters.

The music sounds very Yuki Kajiura, which is an AWESOME thing by my book. I wonder if she's involved.

I do really hope they go with the serious deep direction. I'm a bit fascinated with the universe, particularly that skeleton under the water, and I want to know all of the girls stories. Here's hoping for a good start to the winter season!

Don't. You like 5cm Per Second, you have to be a smart person. A smart person knows when a series is going nowhere and this is it. I thought I might finally find a moe show with something to offer...I didn't get it here.

Haven't seen a worse anaylsis. The guy that did the K-On 2 review like Aria, which is similar in style to 5cm/s. Are you telling me that guy is smart too?

Either way, all those that "compared" this to K-On can't really watch. K-On was targeted solely at comedy. I can't see them doing that here. Just because their characters look a little cuter doesn't mean it's gonna be an aimless moefest.

Lets just say this show has ALOT of potential.
It could turn out like K-ON!, which I don't feel would be BAD, cause I like K-ON! But It could be so much better if it went it's own way and lived up to how awesome it seems like it could be.

Also, ED is awesome.

Well, it doesn't totally ride on moe, that's one thing. The animation makes me think how damn "lazy" K-ON! was with the backgrounds. Sure, in K-ON! it was about the light colors, mood, "fuzziness" and stuff.

Some characters act suspiciously familiar. Also, the name Rio? Come on, why name her Rio?

Fast judgement having only seen the first episode.

If it delves into more than just ridiculous moe girls trying to play trumpets, I'll be quite surprised.
There's still war. In some way we should see destruction. I for one wouldn't be surprised if it borrows from Fullmetal Alchemist B conisidering the people in charge. The director has done some serious stuff like Elfen Lied (midway in this ep. you see the same art as in Elfen Lied OP). There'll be war.

Only problem: the nation is called Helvetia = Swiss and i haven't seen them fighting a war in ages.^^

Spain has been mentioned as a setting influence, but to me the town looks very much like Upper Provence in France. This area is renowned for being not-quite-French because of independent cultural tendencies. Also, I found some photos from the cliffside village known as Moustiers-Sainte-Marie that look quite similar to the town in the anime. While it doesn't appear to have the lake Rio falls in, it does have a small river and waterfall bisecting the commune that flows from a spring in the mountains above.

It's just the reasoning from a moe hating troll.
But I'll let it pass for now, since according to him I' smart aswell, although he's not the kind of person you'd want to hear such a compliment from. :P

Irony is that the uniforms worn by the girls are quite similar to Swiss uniforms I have seen before. Don't remember the exact era though. Will post again if I find something...
Irony is that the uniforms worn by the girls are in fact German Wehrmachtsuniformen and Kanata is transported to the city by a Krad-Schütze.

I don't think the place can be located anywhere it is inter-national. Prices are in Yen by the way.

That was quite an impressive first episode. Though I can't help but notice that each of the characters are basically a mix of K-ON! looks and Strike Witches personalities. eg. Kanata= Yui's looks + Miyafuji's personality ; Kureha = Azusa's looks + Lucchini's personality
The setting is much like Strike Witches, can't say that about the characters. Still too early.

I'll hold my judgment on the plot, but you can't deny the girls are those exact archetypes save the glasses girl. I've corrected myself further in the thread.

Sooo... Yui has given up the guitarr, picked up the trumpet and joined the bishojou butai... I'm stunned...
5 bucks on the demon thing getting revived and they have to fight it off.

No but seriously the artwork was damned good and I just hope that this won't turn into a slice of life and that a plot will kick in relatively early.

Gotta say that the reason I started this, is the fact that Rio is voiced by Yuu Kobayashi. Loving her voice there, sounds strong as always ~

And the animation style resembles a bit of K-On!, I hope it won't turn into one :3

wait, do people seriously expect three dimensional characters from the first episode? Of course they're stereotypes, the show's just begun XD

I love K-ON, so yeah. The characters aren't really like the K-ON characters except in design anyway. And there are no Mugibrows, which makes me sad.
The show isn't anything like K-ON anyway so whateverrr.

Characters are basically counter part of K-On; and I personally disliked K-on style art a lot. Pretty dull start of the series. I was bored from the start to the end.

Nothing interesting showed up except priceless voice from Kobayashi Yuu, and brilliant background art. I will give it a try for couple of more episodes to see whether it will follow moe cliches, or not.

It was a little bit better then I was expecting, as it wasn't nearly as bad as K-on (Well, at least isn't so far)... That being said, there wasn't anything outstanding in it either.

Didn't really like the main characters voice, or the music, especially the OP (which is rare for me... Haven't hated an op for over a year...).

So far for TV animes this season Weiss Survive R > Cobra > This > Ladies vs Butlers > Chu Bra... Not a very good start to the season if a 2.5 min anime is miles ahead of the rest...

Nice music and amazing backgrounds. Very pretty scenery.

But the setting is ridiculous and it seems like your typical no-plot moe-anime those Japanese seem to love so much in recent seasons. Main character is so generic it hurts.
Well, I survived K-On, I might as well continue with this, since it seems to be a little bit better and I really like the scenery art.

I was a bit disappointed by this episode, probably expected more of it, and in the beginning I was quite bothered by the character design. The scenery animation deserves a honorable mention, though. The OP however was very pleasant, can't wait for the full version. All in all, I'll have to wait for next week to see if really makes or breaks my expectations.

I don't get all the mindless hate for the 1 episode shown thus far. Not much difference from the K-On haters if you ask me. For one, looking at how much detail that was placed into the background, it's more Aria or Kino no Tabi to me than K-On.

really, please turn into something with more sense...I don't think I'll like it, I'll watch it, nonetheless

Pretty much all you haters out there will end up like this dude and watch it anyway, so save the pointless hate until at least epi 4-5, then if you still hate it by then by all means do so.

For those who wish to badmouth this as a secondary K-ON! with trumpets, you can't expect so much out of just a first episode alone. There have been far stranger series that have had been expected to fail from just the first episode alone but then turned into a huge success.

I'll wait until Ep. 3 or so to make a final judgement.

How about waiting until episode 13? Seriously. Why don't you guys (I use this loosely) try fully watching a show before passing it of as a generic clone.

I see potential. Potential for it to be a direct copy of K-ON! with character designs, but also potential do much more. First episode was really nice, a good adaption from the manga, far superior even. The colors, backgrounds, fluidity of the movement were all stupendous. Sounds were good too, kind of melancholic or romantic. If anything I'll be watching this show for the high quality in animation.

I was so looking forward to it, and I pretty enjoyed the first episode. The sceneries were beautifully drawn, also I loved the opening by Kalafina and the ed too. I don't know how some of you find it like K-on, exept for the character design. I don't think it'll turn out like that and I also think that maybe Soranowoto has a deeper and more dramatic story then K-on where moe girls did moe things over 12 episodes. I'll definitely watch it. And I loved the french song!!!
It has a little Aria atmosphere too which I really apprechiate.

Just to say, it wasn't based on the manga. It's the first project of "Anime no Chikara". TV Tokyo and Aniplex want to show "anime's power" by doing animes with original (=based on nothing) plots. Even though it's hard to believe/understand since there's manga, it's how it is. The "original one" is the anime XD

And my opinion... I have hopes it will not be another K-ON. I'm counting on A-1 Pictures (and that my hopes won't be smashed)!

I think the K-ON doomsday calls are a bit too early for episode 1, although the character design and the Kanata/Rio = Yui/Mio connections are a little too close for comfort. I do pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this doesn't turn into K-ON though, because the backdrop art is too beautiful, and the background of the world is too interesting to be wasted on a "K-ON clone".
There's way too much potential here to go to waste.

I don't know... Perhaps it's the fact that people don't want to dedicate their time to watching 13 episodes of a show if they happen not to like it?
3 episodes is MORE than a reasonable amount of time to get a point across and taste how the show feels. It's a good golden standard to go by.

So far most likely the first series of this year's Winter anime that actually managed to make a really good expression on me. The backgrounds are just beautiful, the characters are good too, even if they're pretty decent. I liked the opening and I'm surprised that the studio actually managed to do a considerably good ending, even if it's repetitive at some point. Looking forward, good luck Sora no Woto!

The only thing I want is a plot. And a plot that stays. Not like K'-ON which was about girls wanting to perform on Japans biggest stage, but in the end, it was about teenage girls doing moe and tsundere things. Then suddenly they could play and had a song.

It was decent. Better than K-ON!, but not as good as Manabi Straight.

However, I can see a couple of directions this anime could possibly take, and I am intrested in which one it will choose, so I am probably going to end up watching the entire thing, even if it doesn't turn out so good.

Production values are very good, with very good backgrounds and soundtrack. Character designs are so-so, but Manabi Straight didn't do any better in this respect, either.
