| I think she's one of the most annoying characters I've seen but that's just me. I think Yuno from Mirai Nikki is even better than her and she's like one of the most hated ones as far as I've seen. Despite 28k favorites. Haha. If there would be clones of Mikasa, then may Lord have mercy on us all. Not religious, just a figure of speach |

| Yeah, hated as a character in fiction is very different with hated personality if it happens to real people. Yandere is easily among worst traits if it happens to real people. But Yuno is like the most interesting part of the entire Mirai Nikki. |

| I guess it has a lot to do with how the family ideal in Japan is still very "traditional". Girls are seen as objects of either sexualization or passion. Women are usually seen as submissive and breedable. That's why all those dere-types are so common and accepted. Rarely do you see an average girl/woman just doing her own thing in general. After all we're talking about a society here where unmarried women above the age of 24 are traditionally seen as washed up or defective. That said to be honest as someone from the west who grew up with media oversaturated with portrayals "strong", but mostly utterly soulless female characters the anime approach is kinda refreshing in a sense however odd this may sound. A girl that's just there as a love interest for the mc at the very least has to have some depth to make her likeable. That's not a particularly high bar to clear but more than we get from a lot of western media these days. |
