A good protagonist is someone who is well-developed and relatable to the audience. They should have a strong personality, clear motivations, and a defined character arc. So who is the best.

I'm gonna go with everyone's favourite school bully, Yang Dayhe.
Okay, I lied, basically nobody on MAL read White angels have no wings...

And it's technically Korean, but it's on MAL so I'm counting it.

I'd easily have to go with the one and only Mob.

Phosphophyllite from Houseki no Kuni is the greatest protagonist of all time
If you have time to think of a beautiful end, then live beautifully until the end.

Light Yagami, I wish more anime MCs were like him instead of those stupid goody-two-shoes that let people walk all over them and chose to be with abusive tsunderes.

It's a very subjective question, my choice would be spike from cowboy bebop.

Not all time, but I think Riko (Made in Abyss) and Jojo's protagonists are unique protagonists.

Shiki Ryougi from the Garden of sinners.

I already cope why she's bloody awesome during my review of KnK's 7th chapter but I'll repeat it here: she's ambiguous, badass, and independent yet she's a profoundly believable and outstanding character who not only is trapped in her very own problems no matter how powerful and/or scary she can be but she also develops incredible relationships and dynamics with certain characters like Mikiya (obviously) and Enjou.

Guts from Berserk, Mushashi from Vagabond, Rudeus from Mushoku, and Yuu from YagaKimi are my honorable mentions. All of those are brilliant characters as well.

Keep in mind that these are my opinions.
