For the most part, yes. The saturation of moe in the latter part of the decade ruined a lot of what made it endearing in the first place. Because it was so well-established, it became possible to make something like K-ON! where you have stock moe cliche characters who do nothing and yet you can still draw the love of the fanbase, though arguably only KyoAni could have gotten away with it.

80s brought manliness, 90s brought angst, 00s brought moe... one can only imagine what the next decade will make all the rage.

To all you K-ON! haters, please keep the hatred to yourself. Nobody is forcing you to watch it. If you don't like the series, fine that's your choice but you don't need to ruin it for the rest of us who did like it. There are some other animes many people dont like and guess what, they don't watch them and therefore don't hate on it.

Nope, it's saying "you don't like it, fine. Don't watch it. Just let the rest of us enjoy the series." Sorry it didn't have any exploding mechas for you.

Hopefully they'll do something besides drinking tea and going to beach in the second season.

Eh, I'll give it a try, why not. It was quite average overall, but fun at times.

Cute generalization, but my entire point is just because I don't like it doesn't mean I have to be quiet about it because you do like it.

Another adorable generalization. I love slice-of-life moe, like I love all anime, when its done right. K-ON! is a half-assed cliche-laden vacuum for otaku yen across the land of the rising sun. It is palatable at best and shameful at worst. The fact that mindless sheep eat it up like its filet mignon because its labeled KyoAni and has two or three good songs makes me weep for the decade to come, but it is also comforting to know the sheep groupthink has made it so moe has stopped trying new things, is running itself into a rut, and making way for the next big movement, whatever it will be, to surface.

Unlike K-on!, Manabi Straight doesn't abuse stereotypes and doesn't rely on moe factor as the only selling point of the show.

I don't see where it was ever implied that he disliked moe.

K-ON was really difficult for me to get through. I don't hate moe myself, but I found KyoAni's particular emphasis in K-ON on pandering to moe fans with a cast full of shallow moeblobs and ignoring everything else (even comedy) almost unbearable. But only almost.

That said, looking forward to watching the sequel.

Lovers: ZOMG New season my life is now unbelievably great even though the second season could suck
Haters: somehow the fact that a show i'm not going to watch is being given a second season ruins my life

this is why i don't read these threads anymore xD

anyway i loved the first season but idk how hyped i am for a season 2, i really don't know how much more you can get out of the characters and feel it could get really repetitive really quick

Japanese new style of testing new anime market - produce 12 episodes first, if viewership is high, plan for season 2.

No, I get it isn't a masterpiece and it isn't trying to be one, but have we fallen so far that we'll buy into anything that because it's not trying to be the next Evangelion, that means we have to accept that its enjoyable? By that reasoning, you'd have to say because so many people find Transformers and Twilight enjoyable, that they are good movies. You, and a lot of other people, have to learn that you don't have to settle, and you should never have settled in the first place.

im not saying that, im just saying anime doesnt have to be groundbreaking and emotionally deep to be enjoyable.
thats why i like watching moe every now and again. im not really settling for mediocre, i just like watching moe sometimes depending on my moods

A "masterpiece" is one that pretends it is one by playing a bunch of episodes that are basically the exact same as the one before it, just to follow some stupid "endless" arc. /sarcasm

Personally I'm happy, its one of those few anime for me that I can watch again and not get bored by it.
